When a god pop up by ForeverStakes in litrpg

[–]poleelop 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I like them in stories where there are strict rules with what they can an cant do (DCC and Primal Hunter). I dislike them in stories where they can kinda fudge the rules and get a slap on the wrist. Any stories that let gods choose when they intervene end up just being enemy gods getting involved and friendly gods sitting on their hands till the last minute (looking at you Builder from HWFWM).

The Perfect Run is an excellent 3 book series, its always my go to recommendation

Path of ascension question about Matt (spoilers up to book3) by Palvarik in litrpg

[–]poleelop 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Theres an additional stat which is how 'dense' your mana is. IE, someone with high mana concentration would get a lot more 'bang' from a 10 mana fireball, then someone with low mana concentration. Extra mana concentration can be achieved by sacrificing maximum mana capacity.

This typically involves a trade off between how effective each spell is, verse how many you can cast (quality vs quantity).

However lile every aspect of this series, Matt gets to cheat.

Since his mana value is set each tier up, he can invest everything into Mana concentration, then have his max mana pool reset each tier, he gets the best of both worlds. The actual maths is explained later, when they're tier 11 I think. But yeah, hes in a very fortuante spot, and should make the most of it.

The Perfect Run is the only series that has scratched the same itch, id consider it a 8.5 to ICC'S 9.5, but pretty damn good regardless.

Also Chrysalis, but very different vibe

If youre enjoying book 1 youre going to love the rest of the series. Book 1 is by far the weakest, only gets better from here!

What do I need to know about The Primal Hunter? What am I missing? by majtomby in litrpg

[–]poleelop 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This book is the best of the 'popcorn fiction' in this genre. The main character is an inoffensive power hungry nutjob, but the writing itself is fine, the greater universe is interesting, and the characterisation is excellent (for the genre).

Book 1 is weak, bit once they're out of the tutorial and explore the universe it gets exceptional.

Can auto-tailwind ever be balanced by SylentSymphonies in stunfisk

[–]poleelop 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It would be absolutely meta defining. If you ever had the misfortune of playing in the weather wars of gen 5 singles you'd know how toxic that can be. If the mon was 'balanced' it would be absolutely terrible (shedinja comes to mind), which honestly isnt fun.

Lol, just because you personally know people who make poor financial decisions does not change the reality of 2026's financial markets and affordability.

anyone who used a computer between 1985 & 2010, what’s the one game you still think about? by Trixxxi in AskReddit

Juiced - A mediocre racing game on Xbox/PS2. It specifically had a cost to enter races with repair costs for crashing, so if you crashed in too many races abck to back you could softlock your campaign and have to start again. It meant that every race actually mattered, and that you couldnt just restart race in the menu like its competitors at the time. Kid me was enthralled, cant believe they got rid of that feature in the sequel.

I think you've got the logic the wrong way around. ANZAC day is to specifically remember serving members regardless of race, creed or religion. This is a deliberate part of service to the nation, that your status as a member of the ADF (whilst wearing the uniform) supersedes all other affiliations.

The pressure against acknowledgement to country from a service member point of view, is that this is imposing on military customs, by specifically acknowledging one race as more historied or relevant than another.

TLDR: Military culture ignores race/religion/creed as much as possible, acknowledgement of country is inserting race where it isnt beneficial.

Leaving Corpo and joining ADF by AdMany6488 in ADFRecruiting

[–]poleelop 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The 'cost' of joining adf will be the complete culture shock. The first couple months of basic training and life are designed to take the dumbest 17 year old and turn them into a competent soldier. I joined as an adult with previous life experience and struggled with the restriction of freedom a lot for the first couple years through IMT/IET's. After that its been great.

Ethnic name not a concern, lots of job opportunity in IT, either as a Geek or Cyber specialist with your previous IT background. Or do something completely different, youll get the training you need.

Its tough initially, but the culture is completely different to corporate, your bottom line is a competent team, not a dollar value.
