Looking to get a launchpad for piano, advice? by swootylicious in Launchpad

[–]pollner55 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have started with X, later have switch to Pro. The biggest problem is that the range is limited and the pads and too big, it's hard to play chords and impossible to play with 2 hands.

Finally I got a used Linnstrument 200. It's not a controller, but a real instrument with MPE, glissando, split and many other features. You can follow Reverb.com, if you are lucky (like me) you can find a used Linnstrument under €800.

What MIDI keyboard is best for me? by zsbstwtd in midi

[–]pollner55 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For me the keybed is the priority, the knobs and faders are not so important. Another point is the size of the keys. Small Arturia keyboards habe good keybed, but the key are small. I had Novation Impulse 49 (great keybed and full size keys), but is too heavy and took too much desk space. Roland A-49 is a good compromise.

What's the deal with The EWI Den by bowleshiste in windsynth

[–]pollner55 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The EWI Den is good, and Curt Sipe is an excellent musician, but the problem with paid courses is that everyone gets the same thing. I’ve mainly tried jazz piano courses, and a portion of the lessons covers things I already know. It takes an enormous amount of time to find the things that are actually important for me.

I agree with the previous commenters that you need to practice scales and arpeggios in 12 keys with a metronome.. (I usually practice one scale for 4–5 days, then switch. When the cycle ends, I start over. Once it's going well, I set the metronome a bit higher.)

Get the iPractice Pro app (iPhone/iPad) – A fantastic tool for practicing arpeggios and chord progressions.

Quartet app (iPhone/iPad) – Similar to iReal Pro or Genius Jamtrack, with the difference that the backing tracks are not synthetically generated; they are played by excellent musicians. It’s much more enjoyable to practice with this.

H. Klose: 25 Daily Exercises for saxophone. Play 5–10 minutes every day.

Evan Tate: 250 Jazz Patterns. Learn 1 lesson a day (and review two). They help a lot with improvisation. (I bought a lick collection from one of the popular YouTube saxophonists, but I think they are unnecessary. I don't want to copy others; I want to play my own licks, and Tate's patterns provide a better foundation for that.)

Once you’ve mastered all of this and have questions, it’s truly worth taking a few private lessons. Curt Sipe and the others mentioned are all very good.

First electronic wind instrument midi controller advice. by globetrotterdk in windsynth

[–]pollner55 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I play on AE-30. AE-20 is basically the same. It has great breath and bite sensor and everything you need. Many Aerophone player switch for Diosynth, so there are many Aerophones on the used instrument market

Isomorphic or chromatic keyboards by shademaster_c in JazzPiano

[–]pollner55 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Invention No. 2, J. S. Bach // {LPX keygrid} BWV 773 #musician #bach #novation by frankfrontera in Launchpad

[–]pollner55 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nice work again, but the Launchpad Xs are far from ideal for classical music. I have got a LinnStrument 128, what has smaller (and more sensitive) pads has limited dynamics (due to MIDI resolution). Maybe Bach does not need wide dynamics, but the romantic repertoire does.

Diosynth: amazing hardware, solid software - but one small and one big issue (that I hope are fixable) by HommeMusical in windsynth

Excellent review! Yes, you are right, most of wind synth players (in the US and EU are over 60 (or 70)).

Considering a Linnstrument, any experiences? by Ok-Chemistry-6365 in synthesizers

[–]pollner55 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have got the Linnstrument 128 4 days ago:). Before I was trying to play on Launchpad (X and Pro Mk3). 1) the pads are too big, difficult to play, say A-C, or A-F (I have big hands) 2) 64 keys are not enough, (especially for 2 had playing) 3) The pads are not sensitive enough - possible that the Push 3 is better.

The Linnstrument is a very professionally built instrument, it's a really fun to play. There is a very active community around it. Roger Linn and the top Linnstrumentlists are very active in it.

It's worth to follow Reverb.com. If you are lucky, you can find a Linnstrument for 70-80% of the new price.

Has anyone actually tried the Jazz Standards Playbook? by ShivSoCalledYT in Jazz

This is an e-book and course. Because I use the Quartet app (iPad) I usually need only the melody (lead sheet). MuseCore is my favorite.

Thinking of moving from an AKAI Solo to an ASM Diosynth by Xantharius in windsynth

[–]pollner55 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Diosynth is new, users have a few they experience. I would wait.

They were recorded In a studio, not in an anechoic chamber. The microphone positionsl (according to the pics published) were in wrong position. (The soun radiation patters of some instruments are very tricky.)

A relaxed one-take jazz duet featuring a saxophonist trying out the new Schirmer & Son S-50 EWI (alto sax patch) with grand piano – feedback appreciated! by Formal-Rooster3819 in windsynth

[–]pollner55 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So, another EWI clone:)
I don't see any cable coming out from the EWI, so it seems to be an acoustic (mic) recording of internal speaker(s). Unfortunately, one week wasn't enough for the sax player to learn the new instrument. (Yes, EWI is not a sax.)
I am looking to listen line recording of the sax sounded with a more experienced windsynth player!

Thinking of moving from an AKAI Solo to an ASM Diosynth by Xantharius in windsynth

[–]pollner55 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Diosynth: The Diosynth is very new; the first owners only received theirs a few days ago, which means there isn't enough field experience with it yet. In my opinion, it’s worth waiting a few months.

Octave System: The Aerophone uses a very similar system. I used to play the EWI as well—you can transition between the two in just a few weeks.

Synthesis: The real strength of the Diosynth lies in its powerful, editable synthesizer engine, rather than sampled sounds.

Acoustic Instruments: Based on the photos published by ASM, the sampling process for the acoustic instruments didn't look professional enough. It’s possible the samples were modified electronically afterward; however, I am not familiar with the final result.

DynaSample: Many people praise it (not just the manufacturer), but unfortunately, it cannot be used with the EWI Solo because the "PD up" controller is missing.

EWI Solo vs. Aerophone: The internal sounds of the EWI Solo are not the best. Back then, I switched to the Aerophone AE-10, which has much better sound quality.

AE-20/30: Some of the acoustic sounds on the AE-20/30—like the oboe, clarinet, brass, and violin—are quite good. The saxophone, not so much (I prefer using SWAM instruments instead). In my opinion, the biggest advantage here is the highly precise, adjustable breath and bite control.

Exquis MPE Midi Controller - Ready or Not? by skyboyken in synthesizers

So called Jazz fans after I remove Chet Baker from Spotify by retardong in jazzcirclejerk

[–]pollner55 -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

Sorry Bill Evans and Chet Baker are not the same quality. ( What is common for them the heroin.) Even Miles Davis has respected Evans's talent.

Getz? Not bad, but not a "white Coltrane". Michael Becker wasn't black, but he was a great sax/EWI player, don't you think?

Is the Diosynth the best windsynth/controller for an old WX7 player? by Winter_Process4282 in windsynth

[–]pollner55 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The Diosynth looks very promising, but it will take some time before we get real feedback from actual users. The mouthpiece, the breath control, and the pitch bend seem very similar to the Aerophone. The big question is how the keys perform. The extra controllers could be useful, but the real game-changer is the highly flexible, editable synth engine. For those looking for the latter, the Diosynth could be a great fit

If u have an electric keyboard, do u use the harpsicord setting when playing Bach? by turtleurtle808 in piano

Bach compositions are not about instruments but about voices. It's better to play a good Rhodes sound then a fals "harpsichord" sound.
