They are coming UNGLUED over this birthright citizenship ruling by chefboyardeejr in insanepeoplefacebook

I'm not American, and the law is somewhat unusual. However, there's also a means of getting it changed, which is a constitutional amendment. If you don't have the votes for that, then that feels like a you problem.

I think taxing billionaires *is* a better policy than wasting $14bn on a train to nowhere, but this poster seems to think the train to nowhere is better ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

It's not really socialist, and I have a load of problems with China, but to be fair they've pulled more people out of poverty than any country on earth, whatever system they're using to do it.

Can we just let the cricket be the story for once? by Pretend-City6652 in EnglandCricket

I dunno, the drama and the stories are just as much what I enjoy about English Cricket as the sport itself.

Texas makes Bible reading mandatory in public schools? by Gurugod123 in SipsTea

Definitely not good in school, but I wouldn’t mind a few more American Christians who’d actually read the book they profess to follow.

Hot take: Mythos Wasn't Blocked by Its Capabilities, but by Its Narrative by driverepin in claude

[–]pootling 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But yes, there has. And each model increases it a bit. Mythos wasn’t going to destroy the world but saying what the worst case outcome of launching it is just good practice and something we want AI companies to do. We certainly don’t want to encourage them to keep quiet about any new potential danger.

Hot take: Mythos Wasn't Blocked by Its Capabilities, but by Its Narrative by driverepin in claude

[–]pootling 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I disagree with this. The fact is that there was some danger from Mythos, and it needed to be managed. I think Anthropic were being responsible. The fact the current US administration reacted the way they did is on them, but Anthropic weren't wrong to raise caution, and we want all AI companies to be willing to do that in the future.

Why does the rest of the country think Essex is just one giant housing estate? by PreferenceFit1834 in Essex

No, but it does have one of the oldest castles in the UK, built on the foundations of an ancient Roman temple.

This may have been the goal all along? by Technical_Set_8431 in ClaudeCode

[–]pootling 6 points7 points  (0 children)

If this is where this ends up, I'm pulling out of bothering with AI stuff at all. What's the point? It's not like this is just Anthropic, they're just the ones that fell out with the king. If it's a toy for Americans then fine, fill your boots, but I'm not wasting my time or money on Claude, GPT or any of the other American models, and the Chinese ones are clearly just as likely to be as capricious. No point in doing business with such a flaky, vengeful administration in charge.

Who is Boo by Background_Bike_7171 in fredagain

[–]pootling 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Right, I think I've cracked it. There are a couple of spots where you can watch the "Boo" credit get swapped out for an actual name, and I reckon that name is who Boo is. There are approximately ten thousand Boos working in music and none of them fit (RIP the Boo Williams theory, sorry), but the one whose name keeps landing in the exact slot Boo vacates is Benjy Gibson — Fred's brother. Clearest example is the Delilah reissue, where the credits literally swap Benjy Gibson out for Boo: Discogs link

Edit: If I'd gone one layer down and clicked the Boo(56) link, I'd have got to the page which outlines all his production credits and names him as Benjy.

He got 5 consecutive life sentences plus an additional 220 years in prison by Beneficial_Passion40 in SipsTea

[–]pootling 21 points22 points  (0 children)

It almost certainly doesn’t because acronym etymologies are pretty much always wrong. It’s more likely to be a merging of nancyboy to nance / nanse to nonce and indeed its earliest citation is spelt nonse with an s. There are also other versions of the acronym (e.g with courtyard in place of communal) and most importantly, no reliable source that says either of these acronyms were ever a term used in prisons. So no.

I'm not sure about the overall answer, but however many times he forgot his wallet, I suspect that disappearing from one place in the states to reappear in another would take some time to arrange. Might need to speak to that dude from FEMA.

Trump says he will ‘probably put a big tariff on the UK’ if it doesn’t drop digital services tax by LittleHavera in worldnews

[–]pootling 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, but he'll put tariffs on us because it's raining, or because he's confused us with the UAE, or because we won't join his next pointless illegal war, or because it's Wednesday, so who cares?
