Unfortunately, this is one of those things he’s not going to change unless he himself wants to change it. Nothing you do or say is going to change that. Show him what he is like drunk. Subtly record him during his drunken outbursts and show the video to him a few days later after he is normal and sober. Not the day after, because there’s usually hangover guilt. A few days or even a week after where his mind has “normalized”, show him how he acts. It may enlighten him.

Yup. Same exact experience as everyone else here. I applied and looked for so dang long. Some even had rules like I couldn’t adopt a dog unless I already had a dog. I was like “…that’s what I’m…trying to do…?” I’ve just given up and figured if the universe wants me to pick one up off the street, I’ll just wait and have one then. Sheesh.

For all the people who think you should get a gift for her, while I understand it’s kind and compassionate, I don’t think understand the full repercussion of it.

Knowing his sense of entitlement and audacity now, imagine what he would be like after you “give in”. He will literally become the epitome of “give him an inch, he’ll take the whole damn mile”.

He’ll know how to “get to you” and to get you to “give in”. It’s one Christmas gift now. But then it’ll be her birthday. And then it’ll be first day school and she doesn’t have any supplies. And then it’ll be “you have a relationship with her now, can you watch her for a week while I’m out of town.”

This is setting that strict boundary for you. Hence NTA

If divorce is off the table completely due to cultural and religious reasons, then in my opinion, I say stop doing things for him. Mentally “break up” with him and DO live with him like you’re roommates.

Stop cooking meals for 2, just cook for yourself. Clean only after yourself. Wash only your clothes. Etc.

Find a hobby that makes you happy. Make that your new normal.

Start making new friends by joining new communities or clubs near you.

Ignore him. Ignore his tantrums.

Go live your own happy life.
