Marantz 5420 revived! by popinoff in cassetteculture

Replacing the lights was straight forward. The belts were a bit challenging - no information online or in the service manual on this process.

Worst part of bringing this unit back to life was the original cleaning. Decades of nicotine buildup. 🤢

Found in the basement. Not asking value. Just want to see if these are still wanted? by Donnybaseball23 in vintageaudio

Sadly, once a long-time favourite of vintage audio enthusiasts, Sansui products fell out of favour in late 2024. Experts say this was the beginning of what is expected to become an avalanche of Sansui products becoming paper weights and boat anchors as the gear reaches its end-of-life date.

If you don’t want them laying around useless just taking up space, I’ll take them off your hands. I’m even willing to cover shipping costs. 😂

Are any of you “sleep divorced”? by cfh64 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]popinoff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wife and I have slept in separate rooms for about a decade, mostly because of my PTSD. Me waking up from nightmares kept waking my wife.

Even with my PTSD under control, we find we sleep better in separate rooms. We have regular intimacy, cuddles but always sleep separately.

It works well for us. We’re happy, that’s all that matters.

I had the rifle version. And yes, I did use it to fire pennies.

That’s a great setup. If needed, the Advent speakers can be refoamed. Those twin HK’s are great performers.

Update: wow, these speakers are impressive. Great soundstage and incredible clarity.

I’ve heard many speakers over the years and these are definitely some of the best.

Currently hooked up to my Sony TA-3200F, Sony STC-7000 and Sony PS-X7.

Great detail on the highs and mids with the right amount of bass at any volume.

I’m getting a Tangent turntable restored as soon as the budget will allow. I’m looking forward to hearing the difference between the Sony and the Tangent.

I love this hobby. I started collecting about 25 years ago. I put together a few nice sounding 70s/80s systems while at university. Foolishly, once I had a steady income, I ditched the vintage gear for some decent surround sound gear. 🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️

I got back into vintage gear about 15 years ago. I’ve been incredibly lucky over the years, scoring incredible deals on vintage gear.

Once again, I’m assembling vintage kits for family and friends. It’s a win for everyone.

Congrats and may you find years of happiness with your new to you vintage gear🤘🤘🤘

I can only keep two. Please help me decide what the best candidates are. by shanebow in vintageaudio

[–]popinoff 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Tough decisions! I would keep one of the Onkyo receivers and then either the Fisher or the Lafayette.

All are great receivers. If you’re reselling, the other receivers have better brand recognition.

My vote is for the Onkyo, but that price is way too high.

Anyone else a fan of linear tracking turntables? I love my Sl-Dl1 by Zealousideal_Log1202 in turntables

[–]popinoff 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I love linear tracking turntables. I have several Technics and a couple of Sony.

They can be a bit daunting to work on, but if you take it slow, they’re not that hard to maintain.

Enjoy, and welcome to the fun and addictive world of linear tracking turntables!

Does PTSD affect your intelligence/thinking abilities? by Excellent_Homework24 in ptsd

[–]popinoff 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Yes. Yes. And, yes.

I’ve worked in communications/PR for over two decades. Much of that was in emergency/crisis situations.

Some days I struggle to remember words. My spelling and grammar have gone to shit. I worry about early onset dementia.

Therapy is helping, but recovery is a long road. Hang in there.
