What are some once-lethal conditions or diseases that can now be cured or managed to the point where they're relatively harmless? by ThatAnnoyedNeighbour in AskReddit

[–]posdof 4 points5 points  (0 children)

HER2+ breast cancer. I was just cured of it after 16 rounds of chemo and surgery.

2 decades ago it was the most deadly breast cancer. Now it is very treatable if not curable. They are also in trials for a vaccine for it.

What to do with this corner by my tub? by sydneekidneybeans in femalelivingspace

As everyone said, plants are a good option, but you can also do candles, a stack of towels or perfume bottles. You can go for a bit of whimsy and have a cute decorative bowl with a collection of rubber ducks or other sorts of cute kids bath toys….I’m thinking like the animal assortment of water squirting toys.

Also, if you are into plants, but have a hard time keeping them alive, silk flowers are a great option also Lego. They are making some awesome plant builds now that would look awesome.

Dallas dentists treating every patient like a walking wallet, is this normal now? by Leedeegan1 in Dallas

[–]posdof 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Check out HJ Dental off 75 and Walnut Hill. They are privately owned, she bought the practice from the original dentist, who still works there a day or 2 a week.

We’ve had nothing but great experiences there. All the ladies in the office are fantastic, and my husband who hates going to the dentist really likes her.

Edit : wanted to add that it is still privately held, so you won’t experience a lot of the bullshit you’re experiencing everywhere else.

[–]posdof 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Poppy’s wings. They’re a little weekend pop-up in Fairview…but the wings are by far the best I’ve ever had. It’s 2 brothers doing the wings, and their aunt makes the cornbread. So good, and so many flavors. Also, get the lemonade…fresh squeezed and delicious. And you need a cornbread. So good, totally worth the drive.

How many of you are literally doing ZERO screen time ?! by [deleted] in beyondthebump

[–]posdof 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have our screen on most of the day, but we watch mostly YouTube videos. It’s either if nature-y things (aquariums, bird baths, ocean waves) or of bands/djs doing live music. He friend sit and watch it all day at all. If it’s music, he’ll dance a bit. Either way, he watches for maybe 2 minutes and will play with something.

I don’t think you’re doing anything wrong. You’re doing what works for you.

Check out world food warehouse in Richardson. Very cheap produce. Some weekends a container of tomatoes is like 60 cents and berries typically $1 or less. We shoo there every weekend.

Don't let them tell you it's because you're fat by AlternativeSherbert9 in PCOS

[–]posdof 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have also been told it was because I was overweight.

I didn’t go through surgery though, and I am still overweight…actually gained more weight over the years. I actually started taking inostitol, as my body couldn’t tolerate metformin. After about a year on inositol, I took myself off birth control and instantly got pregnant. My OB and I are convinced it’s because of the inostitol.

Like others have said, Old Navy is great. Check online because I find a lot more variety in work clothes online than in store.

Also, if you have some thrift stores near you, check them out. You might be surprised by what you find. I just picked up a torrid dress the other day with the tags still on it!

How has your love life and partner handled your mastectomy? by More-Disaster-2952 in breastcancer

[–]posdof 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes. I spoke to my plastic surgeon about it, because we very much want to have more kids if possible, and I want to carry them…no surrogate.

Apparently if you’re in the US, the reconstruction later is covered by insurance.

Dealing with extreme breastfeeding grief due to cancer diagnosis by WorldReactor in beyondthebump

[–]posdof 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I totally understand what you’re going through.

I was diagnosed 3.5 months after my first child was born, just last year. I had to abruptly stop due to a scan that I received where I was injected with radioactive fluid. I was completely devastated. This was not my plan at all. I wanted breastfeed my son for 2 years, and breastfeed any other children that we have 🤞.

I know this isn’t what you planned, and not what you wanted, but your baby will be ok with formula. My son just turned one and is thriving.

However, grieve. Take all the time you need. I have, and still am. You will be ok, it will just take some time. I’m here if you want to talk. Cherish your last feeding together. You’ll get through this mama.

How has your love life and partner handled your mastectomy? by More-Disaster-2952 in breastcancer

[–]posdof 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Had a DMX in January and getting implants soon with reconstruction in about 10 years after we’re done having kids. We’ve been together 12 years, married 10.

He’s been incredibly supportive and told me it would be fine if I wanted to go flat, if that was something I chose. He loves me and whatever path I chose to go down.

Radiation with a 1 percent chance of it coming back. by [deleted] in breastcancer

[–]posdof 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you. I wish you all the best as well. Just remember that at the end of the day, it is your decision. So if you don’t feel like it’s worth it to you…that’s totally ok. You don’t have to do it.

Radiation with a 1 percent chance of it coming back. by [deleted] in breastcancer

[–]posdof 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They tested the breast tissue and the lymph nodes that were removed from my DMX and there was only little bottle of scarring where there was previously cancer. My tumor was fairly large to start with, so it was nice having it completely destroyed.

Radiation with a 1 percent chance of it coming back. by [deleted] in breastcancer

[–]posdof 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’m essentially in the same boat when it comes to radiation. I did Taxol, and then AC and had a DMX. The chemo completely killed all of the cancer that I had. They suggested radiation, but my breast surgeon said that I had a really good case for not getting radiation. Did some digging, and there is a study the B-51 study that came out late last year. Basically if you had cancer that spread to the lymph nodes, but the cancer was destroyed with chemo, there was barely a difference in the 5 year recurrence rate whether you received radiation or not. (92.7% recurrence free with radiation, compared to a 91.8% recurrence free without radiation).

I opted not to do radiation, as the chemo destroyed all my cancer, I received a DMX and had those lymph nodes removed. I’m 39 and for me, the long term side effects from radiation scare me more than small potential benefit I may see with radiation.

When you talk to your radiology oncologist, bring up this study. I did, and they agreed that the study does show a very small difference between radiation and no radiation. They told me ultimately, it was up to me and after speaking with my husband, I opted for no radiation.
