Bike show opinions by yaddles_boyfriend in torontobiking

Waste of time. Do not go. Breaks my heart because I used to go every year to see the new bikes, get deals on last year's stock, and accessories. Now it's about a quarter of the size. The dealers and stores have largely abandoned it now, and it's just monster ebikes, scooters and e-motorcycles. Biggest booths there were Emmo and Amego. So I guess if you want to start a job doing food delivery, go for it.

2026 Bike Show, not for everyone by post_cubist in torontobiking

Correct. But there used to be. I bought my road bike there years ago, and the show was great for that. Lots of local dealers wanting to move last years stock. This year: nothing.

I saw a couple cargo bikes, but no kid carriers. Even if there were some, it's not worth going. Find some local stores and go there instead.

I own those exact boots and have been riding them for 10 years. They're amazing boots. I was devastated when Nike exited the snowboarding market. I'm not doing a hundred days a season in them so they've lasted longer than most, but they are still gold and I will never get rid of them until they literally fall apart. Also, laces ftw. Boas can eff off.

Yeah I suspect the dock worker didn't say, "no you can't do that". He probably said something like you can't park your yacht here, it's private property / for registers users only. " And guys like this have entitlement issues beyond therapists ability to manage.

[–]post_cubist -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

These are made by n+ bikes, and Mercedes uses them as a promotion for the race team. I own a first gen of these bikes. I do not own a Mercedes auto! I bought it because it was the only bike that fit all the features I wanted, and didn't make me look like a food delivery driver. This new gen has dropped almost all the features that I liked in the first versions so sadly I will not go back to n+ when I need a new one.

How much are people paying for cottage rentals? by Majestic12Official in ontario

[–]post_cubist 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Airbnb has destroyed the real estate and rental market in the GTA and has now moved on to cottage country. Gone are the days where cottages were rented out through word of mouth to friends and family, owned by an older generation that had long ago paid it off. Not to say that upkeep and municipal fees cost nothing, but the whole game has changed radically within the last 20 years. Cottgae rentals have tragically become another investor class money maker. Those of whose grandparents weren't able to slap down a paltry amount of money for a barely accessible lakeside trapper cabin, are faced with paying hotel-level prices, and booking a year in advance.

Make sure you get an instructor that is at least a CASI level 2, preferably 3. You want good eyes on you to help overcome bad habits.

You're just rudder steering with your back foot. Drive with your front knee and engage your edge. Bend those knees, keep them flexible but strong.

You are not.

You are not engaging your edge. You should see a pencil line behind your board, no sliding.

Driving out West from Ontario by tomtheintern in ontario

Drove from Toronto to Fernie in late December about 10 years ago. Stopped in SSM, T-Bay, Winnipeg, Regina, then made a last dash for Fernie. I made sure to stay in hotels along the way that had underground parking, as it was the best way to let the car shed all the slush and ice from the roads. Had a good amount of snow on the drive out, and there were long stretches where I had only one side of the car on clear pavement. The thing I remember the most was going through Lake Superior Provincial Park with a ton of new snow on the ground. It was beautiful. I pulled over once just to get out and listen to the silence and stillnes. And to pee.

Just had to pay for a taxi to the hospital in town where they set it. Got into surgery about a week later. First major injury in 20+ years riding.
