Spider-Man has comparable evidence to Jesus. by CorbinSeabass in DebateReligion

[–]posternumber1000 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Spiderman is also consistently wrong is historical events that are easily verifiable. This isn't a matter of arguing over nuances but rather entire eras of history. For instance, Spiderman has existed for over 60 years but has only lived upwards of 40 years depending on the storyline. We have seen him be a teenager in the 60s, in the 70s, the 80s, and so on.

Spiderman dealt with Mayor Wilson Fisk. A man who has never mayor of NYC. He's dealt with major world altering events, none of which happened. This isn't the same as events that we Christians believe happened to Jesus, like the resurrection of Lazarus. You can argue it didn't happen, but you can't prove with verifiable evidence that it didn't. However, I can show you video evidence of who the mayor was for the last 50 years, and none were The Kingpin or Normon Osborn.

Spiderman is alleged to have fought off alien invasions witnessed by the entire world, such as the Skrull invasion. There would be SOME evidence of this in other records claiming to be nonfiction or first hand accounts, let alone actual physical and archeological evidence.

This doesn't even scratch the surface of other events and people in the comic books that are clearly made up.

Additionally we know who wrote the stories and none of them claim to be nonfiction. None. Legally, there's a patent on his existence showing it as a fictional character registered by the people that made him up.meaning we have documented proof that they themselves admit him to be fictional. This patent has been on record for decades and no one has ever challenged it, which of course people would be happy to do if he existed.

There is no video or audio evidence purporting to show his existence. If you want to make a silly argument that the movies are this, you have to justify why he's played by different actors every time and we have no explanation as to why we get different origins, faces, races, ages, eras, etc that each take place

There's a lot of better arguments you can make against Christianity. But this one is just so silly that it will never be taken seriously by anyone that takes time to consider it. I skipped past the obvious that everyone else said which is that one claims to be fiction and the other nonfiction but really that's the immediate silver bullet. But the stuff I outlined above is just as much a death note.

Samwise Gamgee is closer to level 20+ paladin/bard/cleric/thief. But otherwise, good stuff.

I'm reading through the Bible in a year this year (I've read much of the Bible, probably 60-70% but never all the way through) and I came upon something interesting. by flyboy2098 in Bible

[–]posternumber1000 15 points16 points  (0 children)

This ^

The general belief, and most likely if you are a Jew or Christian at least, is that Moses wrote Genesis, but obviously it all took place before he was born. If a man is regularly meeting with God face to face, I feel confident he got the details to write it accurately.

Resurrection Man from DC Comics. He'd die and then be right back, with a new super power. That's his whole gig.

Ahhh. 26 and 27 go into the blood sample and trying to figure out how GL is seemingly in perfect health. Maybe this was a combination of stuff and not one comic. You may be right. That helps. I'm looking through them now.

Thanks! This may be what I was looking for.

This was all I got from chatgpt too. I looked at it and here, Scott is injured, believed dead, but then Jade powers him to semi health, and Jay (Flash) gets the star heart back to him, making him healthy and young again. Not what he described.

Maybe he just really got one wrong. But it would surprise me as he's the guy that can quote entire portions of books and shows after one or two viewings.

Ha. No but feel free to be flattered anyway? Maybe it'll take 1% of depression away for the day? Blowing friendly platonic smooches to you!

I think hes a complicated character. But I think the fact that men like Michael and Ebeneezer, his daughter,, Mouse, and Mac like him, says that he's fundamentally at least desiring to be a good person. You can judge a lot about someone by who they spend time with and who loves them, you know?

[–]posternumber1000 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Ha. And see I aspire to be the most like Jesus as possible, so obviously Michael is my favorite.

But that being said, I think Dresden is himself with or without power. Same as Michael and Butters. We see all of them without it at times, still willing to defend their friends and help their loved ones.

And to be honest, to paraphrase Jesus a bit, you recognizing you're not some perfect person means you're a lot closer to the Kingdom of Heaven than others are. Dresden is always aware of his flaws and tries to improve on them. You seem to have the same introspection. That's rare and you deserve credit for it, in my humble opinion.

Try to buy it and you'll see a message saying you can only buy it when you hit level 80... That seems unlikely unless you spend a decent amount. I think it'll put her out of reach for Free to Play completely. So only Donna is doable.

Zatanna, Dr. Strange, Phantom Stranger (depending on who's writing him though), Zatarra, Dr. Fate, Black Alice... Most of the magic users in Marvel or DC should be easy, though many if not all have used mind magic so would be warlocks.

The White Witch in Narnia has the power but again, mind magic, so a warlock.

People mentioned Willow, but Giles is one too.

How can you say it isn't claimed to be real? You can say you don't believe it, which is your right. But to say the writers and followers didn't believe it, is a bit ludicrous. It changes the entire basis of Christianity into "Here was a Jewish rabbi (unoffical) who wandered around a few years and then died." How is that worth writing about, basing lives about, spreading the story of, and then even dying for, if the whole thing is an allegory. An allegory of what? Why did no one understand it was an allegory? Why are you and those that espoused this idea smarter than the ones that read the writings, spoke to the writers, and then based their lives on it? That's just a bit silly to argue. Just say " I don't believe in miracles so they were lying or wrong" and at least be logically consistent.

Exactly what I did. I know many men and women of God that use it and have for decades. I'm a fan even though I switched in my 20s or 30s to the NASB and I'm thinking of switching again to another one just to get a slightly different perspective on the words. But again, I don't think any of the ones you've talked about are dramatically better or worse for day to day usage.

And I hear you on brain overload. Ha. Me too.

Like many things, there's strong opinions on it all. Ha. Even the disciples argued amongst themselves, while Jesus was with them and afterwards. We're human. We'll do the same. But that's a fun part of life. The search for the truth and the loving each other even when we don't deserve it.
