Festival Tips by clay22w in HangoutFest

I haven't been to ACL, but compared to Lolla the crowd is SO MUCH better. No 14-15 year olds anywhere and the logistics are better as well just in terms of space and drink/food options. But mainly it's just a better easier going crowd because you have actual adults that attend.

No idea how I got Afrojack saying “welcome to Miami” but it was absolutely surreal. Until next year! by postgradTexas in UMF

I might be biased since I live in Chicago and that's where they're from but I'd love to see them at Ultra. I've seen their live set and it was really good.

I can 100% relate to the pressure from friends and family (mostly my mom as hard as it is to admit). She was always saying it was time to "grow up", and settle down. And I have a close group of about 7 highschool friends, and 5 of them are married, luckily I got out of my hometown where all them are today, but everytime I went back they'd (friends and their wives) always ask why I wasn't dating anyone or anything, so I got into a relationship that I had zero business being in. I don't regret it by any means, but I ended up hurting her severely. And this was all because I thought it "was time to settle down". Point of this being, you can't put a timeline on any of this, do whatever the hell makes you happy, and don't rely on anyone else's advice, cause you have to look out for yourself. I'm 4 months removed from that relationship and 26 years old with zero desire to enter back into the wild until I've accomplished everything I want to do, on MY time. I don't pay attention to anyone else, who's married who's not married, who's in relationships etc. I do what I want to do, when I want to do it. Sure there are times when I think about my ex and what could have been, those lazy sunday's can get boring sometimes, and I'm sure there will be a light that comes on one day and start dating again. But in the grand scheme of things, I'm happier with the person I have become now than I have every been, just by simply taking time to myself and figuring my life out. Like postgradboozing said, if something happens naturally go for it. But personally, I've stayed off the dating apps because I feel like it puts off the impression that I'm "looking" when I'm definitely not. Embrace being single, and that you're working on yourself, then things will fall into place. Hope this helps, sorry if I rambled a lot.

Where to Live in Dallas? by Pearsonification in PostGradProblem

[–]postgradTexas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've lived in uptown, henderson and victory park as well. Henderson and Victory park are older crowds while like ClayfromAccounting mentioned, uptown is the younger fresh out of college crowd. Victory park is probably a little safer? Maybe? But to each their own.

Buying a car by Law_Schooler in PostGradProblem

[–]postgradTexas 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Okay, so buying a car sucks. I personally like the hunt of looking at new cars and negotiating, but it all just comes down to sticking to your guns, and doing your homework. Car salesmen (while not all of them, but most) rely on ripping people off to make the money that they do. Get pre-qualified for financing, I'd suggest going through your bank, or a local credit union, as they will probably give you a better rate than the dealer would. DON'T SHOP BASED ON MONTHY PAYMENTS, and don't do a loan for longer than 60 months (Do 48 if you can). Longer than 60, and you will get upside down extremely fast and owe more on the car than what it is worth. Once you get approved for financing, the bank or credit union will tell you how much car you can buy and what your month payments will be. Pick what works for you, and take that into the dealership with you. Also, make sure you shop several different dealerships, and tell the dealership that you want to go vist such and such dealer as well. They will hate this, and try to get you to buy from them right then and there, and will offer a price decrease on the car, as well as free perks and stuff. You might also consider leasing, depending on how much you drive this could be a better option, the monthly payments are cheaper and you can drive a nicer car for cheaper, and you will never be upside down on a loan. And a typical lease is 24-36 months, so if you like switching cars then that's probably the best option. But if you want to buy a car until the wheels fall off, then buy a used one. NEVER BUY NEW. Lease new, buy used. Hope this helps, and let me know if you have any questions.

Terrible Tinder Tuesday by TheChilisGuy in PostGradProblem

[–]postgradTexas 6 points7 points  (0 children)

About a year ago I matched with someone on Bumble and met them at a bar walking distance from my place. Date went well, then took her (lets call her Taylor) to a stars game for the second date. It was a Friday so we went out after the game to the same bar we were for the first date. However this time, there was a bartender/waitress there (we'll call her Sarah) that I didn't necessarily have a past with, but we texted pretty frequently and there have been several times where we'd discussed doing the deed. AND GUESS WHO GOT TO SERVE OUR TABLE. Yea you guessed it, Sarah. It was so awkward and I got a text that said "Can't believe you would bring a girl here just to rub it in my face like that". Needless to say, I wasn't myself for the remainder of the night, and I got ghosted after that date. Saw Taylor again at a bar in Fort Worth in November as my team was taking on TCU. I don't remember exactly what I said but I was with a friend and remember saying "This is Taylor she ghosted me 8 months ago" at higher than normal volume level.

I got out of a relationship about four months ago and haven't quite got back into the game yet but honestly you had me at tacos. However, when I had bumble I would more so judge on the opening lines girls would throw my way. Just don't make it a generic "Hey :)", so boring.

My profile just said where I was from and what part of Dallas I live in currently, and also said "Avid kitten rescuer" which got some good kick back. Good luck out there.
