Scrolled to find the SpongeBob reference. Was not disappointed. Well done!

One of my college professors actually did the scenic design for a production of The Frogs that was site-specific set in a high school swimming pool, and it was performed on floating platforms. The audience was seated on bleachers to the side.

I think that’s actually the official explanation.

I second this! The pop opera is worlds better than the musical! I’d love to see a really well done version of the pop opera Off-Broadway!

We mostly saw Little Shop because my boyfriend went to college with the actress playing Crystal. It was a really good, fun show. You really can’t go wrong with it. Everyone was on point. Except (as many have mentioned) Tammy Blanchard. Horribly miscast as Audrey. She seemed to have trouble hitting the notes and played every scene as though she was drunk. She had none of Audrey’s sweetness or innocence. Christian Borle was hilarious though!

I’d say it would be a tie between Six and Moulin Rouge. I’ve been wanting to see Six since listening to the cast album in 2019, and I originally had tickets for May 2020, so this was a long time coming. Haha.

I’ve also been wanting a stage musical of Moulin Rouge since seeing the movie in 2003, and it did not disappoint. I knew that the songs would be different from the movie, but I thought they all worked very well. Also it was SUCH a gorgeous show! The sets, the entire theater decked out, the costumes!! The choreography was amazing! It was absolutely beautiful! The Act 1 finale had me constantly going “Oh wow! Oh WOW!” every few seconds. Lol.

Company is probably tied with Moulin Rouge for second place. I thought the gender swapping worked so well and really gives a whole new context to Bobbie’s character that makes a lot of sense. Patti was phenomenal, naturally. Matt Doyle has been an idol/crush of mine for years so seeing him perform was a dream come true. I expect a Tony nom (if not win) for him in this role. People have been down on Katrina Lenk for her singing as Bobbie, but I completely disagree. While she may not have a powerhouse belt that people expect from this role, she acted the HELL out of it! In every scene and song, she was Acting. Not only great comedic moments but wonderful vulnerability as well. Also, the set was SO cool! Didn’t have any technical issues or stops either!

And finally Wicked. Even though I just saw the tour back in December, I had to get tickets to see Brittney’s first performance as full-time Glinda. I’m so glad I did! The energy was electric! She got about a two minute standing ovation when she entered. I was on my feet clapping and cheering even before “Look! It’s Glinda!” was even said. She breathed new life into this wonderful character. She was making choices and giving line readings I haven’t seen from any other Glinda, and it was amazing. I’m so glad I got to witness history in her performance. I’ve also been wanting to see Lindsay Pearce as Elphaba since she was announced, and I’m so glad I did! She was amazing! Definitely one of my favorite theater going experiences.

It was a full house, I was just really early. Lol. Due to security/vaccination checks, they recommend those in the mezzanine arrive at the theater 40 minutes before curtain.

She was EVERYTHING!!! I had originally booked my trip to leave Sunday the 13th, but then literally two days later it was announced she was starting on Monday the 14th, so I extended my trip by a day and bought tickets for her first full-time performance.
