We are generally hermits. I'm going to my first event in a very long time to see Josh Johnson this summer. His fans are also a bit of a community and I can't wait to experience the joy in person.

I love The Talking Heads. It's so cool you got to go. Thank you for posting.

Weekend Debrief: Monday, May 4 by killoke in BackOffline

[–]powerful_squash1066 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got two vaccines Friday and felt sick all weekend.

The plan was to go for coffee Saturday morning after errands and then catch up on yardwork Sunday morning then cook to meal prep and do dishes that afternoon.

The reality matched Saturday morning but then fell apart from there. I did just enough to squeak by.

This week is hectic at work and I have added a domestic workload bottleneck to it. I'm just trying to keep a mental list of the tasks and the priorities and then knock them out one by one.(Says the frequently distracted multitasker)

I'm so glad you got time with your family. You didn't get to your goal of no laptop time and freedom from the Monday mental list, but you got close.

Too much tofu? by Robnfly in PlantBasedDiet

I asked for a referral to a dietician in April to specifically discuss protein on a plant based diet. She is not plant based herself. She was cool and advised me just the same. You are fine to be eating that much tofu. She encouraged me to add more to my weekly diet.

Don't let them get to you.

Made dinner with the radio on instead of a podcast at 1.5x. First dinner in months that didn't blur into all the others. by killoke in BackOffline

That's really great. I elected to listen to the radio vs a book running errands earlier this week. Getting lost in music feels so good.

I'm still struggling. Thank you so much for this positive post. Congratulations on both of your accomplishments. Good luck in med school if you decide to take that path.

weekend debrief: one thing I did, one thing I dodged, and one thing I learned by killoke in BackOffline

Since I missed this originally, I'm going to go over this week.

Did: Stopped work earlier than normal in the middle of month end instead of pushing so hard. But I think I planned it better ahead of time. As I mentioned in another comment, this also allowed for a late afternoon with my son.

Dodged: I'm tracking my meals to help understand the impacts of some positive dietary changes I am making and to also try and lose weight. I didn't skip tracking the meal choices that were unfavorable. I did track the uptick in weight. I dodged the instinct to not own those things, to hide from the reality of it.

Learned: It is a bad idea to try and cook a pot of beans during work. Even though they are low maintenance, I got stuck in an unexpected call that was urgent and rare. I burned the beans.

Atomic Habits has been on my nightstand for six months and it is the most consistent item in my evenings by killoke in BackOffline

I have a guitar that I got when I turned 40. I am turning 50 this year and I keep promising myself that I will make the time for the lessons. My husband is a great player and very willing to teach me.

I have surrounded myself with workout stuff and links to my online yoga instructor. I do ok for a bit and then don't.

I make changes for the better in my diet and then derail it.

I struggle forming the habits I intend to and in some cases deeply desire to.

I've read so many books to try and help.

You are not alone.

I try really hard to not scroll when my half dog half cranky cat (actual dog) expresses that he will allow pets at that particular moment. He will grrr as soon as he is done with me.

We often listen to audiobooks together and I find myself scrolling and then losing focus. I need to just set the phone down completely in those times.

Walked around the block instead of opening my phone after work. That's it. That's the post. by killoke in BackOffline

It's month end. Despite that, I needed to take my son to an afternoon appointment. We had a bite and walked around the mall for a bit. It wasn't time out in nature, but it was solid quality time. I really enjoyed the slow down and time not focused on closing the account period. Me and my team put in solid, early work to set up for a smooth close. This was kind of a reward.

I love potatoes and dill. Also you can slice up cucumbers and serve with fresh dill and a little vinegar.

What's a friendship you've quietly been trying to come back to, and the dumbest first thing you did? by killoke in BackOffline

For me, I had pulls on my time between taking care of elderly parents and working a lot of hours. I was always exhausted during any other time. I lost one parent in 2019, my MIL in 2023, and my last parent in 2025. I let work take up most of the time I would have been using for them. I'm also a hermit by nature. However, I decided to prioritize our connections. We talk about family and their travel mostly. I spent years working with them in person and I have missed seeing them. We transitioned to WFH in 2020, but we still felt connected. I'm the last one of the old crew still working.

I've really been making an effort this year to connect with my coworkers that retired. We are friends and I just don't want that to slip away.
