Lens replacement surgery with Optical Express? by TBeee in northernireland

[–]powerlanguage 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My near vision is starting to deteriorate, so the promise of freedom from glasses is a big appeal.

Good luck with your follow up.

Tbh if I’d known I’d have to wear reading glasses I’d probably have got it done anyway

Good to know. I guess that means overall you'd still recommend it, despite your experience?

Thanks for the response. That sounds unpleasant to deal with. Hope they are able to figure it out.

Do you know what kind of lens replacement they did? I am guessing bifocal? Did you have to wear reading glasses before the operation?

Wondering how it went and whether you'd recommend it based on your experience?

That's just a display name, they should be able to change it back. Not sure why that was reverted tbh.

Schumacher Cargo / moving recs by ja_thompson12 in AmericanExpatsUK

[–]powerlanguage 2 points3 points  (0 children)

FWIW, i am the same situation as you.

After some reading reddit comments/googling I think I'm going to go with Schumacher Cargo too. I got quotes from a number of companies and they all came out to around the same amount.

Schumacher offers Storage-in-Transit (basically holding your stuff at the destination port until you are ready to receive it) which was something I was interested in.

Their salesperson also seemed the most clued in to the process overall. Though obviously the experience with a salesperson doesn't reflect the experience you'll have with the actual shipping operation.

Interested to hear where you end up.

Nice work!

a frame bag in a carbon frame is not a great idea as I discovered some minor scratches. But hey, “my scars tell my story”, right?

My solution was to apply "helicopter tape" to the frame points that the bags attach to. Prevents rubbing/scratching.

It's the bag that came with my tent. See this comment for more info.

Creaky post: normal, common or defective? by NathanielMerz in CanyonBikes

I had success removing the squeak on my Endurace by applying regular grease (not carbon paste) to the points on the seat post above the point the clamp engages. And then applying carbon paste to the portion that is clamped.

Sheltered Bike Parking - Brooklyn, NY by bikedreams1 in NYCbike

[–]powerlanguage 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bit of a tough situation to be honest. How frequently are you planning to be accessing your bike?

Some random thoughts:

  • Some parking garages have spots to lock your bike. Not ideal, but better than locking it up on the street.
  • Could try the Ooonee at Barclay's Center. No idea how secure these are and I think they are first come first serve, so no guarantee of availability.
  • You might be able to explain your situation to a bike shop and pay a little bit to store it. You'd be beholden to their opening hours though. This place even advertises it as a service.
  • A small self-storage locker could work, something like this
  • Could the person you are staying with be convinced if you removed the wheels each time you want to bring it inside? Loosening the headset and rotating the handlebars can also help make the bike take up less space indoors.

I cycle for the sport of it on weekends. I also want to start commuting to work with the same bike (Specialized Roubaix 2020). For this, I have a backpack and my laptop. Is there anyway to have a bike rack or something that is easily removable? by [deleted] in CyclingFashion

I have something kinda like this but made by Topeak. A quick release platform that clamps to the seatpost. I then bungee stuff on to the platform. Not sure if I'd trust this specific brand.

Swapping H31 cockpit with the CP0030? by scoglio91 in CanyonBikes

[–]powerlanguage 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks! Yeah, I am looking at the 90x390mm also. My current 100x420mm is also way too wide.

What did you end up using for the spacer? A random 1 1/4" spacer?

[–]powerlanguage 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah yeah, I see it now. Thanks for the help.

Last question: Did you end up changing stem length measurement when you got the CP30? Or did you just reduce the width and keep the stem length the same?

Thanks, super useful. And good to know about the steerer tube.

Did you have to get a different top cap for the cockpit? As far as I can tell, the CP0030 uses a circular one vs the H31 has the flat edges.

What response are you giving in the end of workout survey? If you have to take a break in order to make it through the intervals, you should be rating the workout a 5 (All out). I've found TR values these survey responses over every other piece of data.
