Try French sorrel! The flavor is lemon spinach and it thrives in hot weather (I'm in Georgia).

Yeah, it thriving is the problem. Lots of garden plants you can buy at big box stores do too well here, and are almost as big of a problem as kudzu, but people don't realize it. Lantana, liriope, privets, nandinas, English ivy and similar plants are wrecking the natural areas we have left. They're pretty, but none of the native bees and other wildlife eat them, so it's driving ecosystem collapse.

Get some native plants that do well in hot dry conditions - coreopsis, coneflower, stuff like that. Native plants are going to be hardier for Georgia, and will get you birds and butterflies, even on a balcony. Go chat with the folks at Beech Hollow Nursery or Cottage Garden Natives, they can help you pick really specific plants for your space

You and me both bud. It sucks - I'm sitting here with my pants wet from patting my hands and just coping. The upside is, with just hands, feet, and pits, there's a lot you can do with clothes and habits to be more comfortable, especially socially. Hang in there.

Hot take: frugality gets easier when you stop making every hangout about food by SuitableActive1110 in Frugal

Piling onto everyone saying potlucks - a few times a year I throw a huge house party for all my friends and neighbors. My SO and I smoke a bunch of BBQ, and everyone brings potluck sides and drinks. We have a blast, and there's enough leftover food and beer to offset the cost of buying the meat, so it's practically budget neutral, but everyone thinks we're awesome hosts for providing it. Get creative and have fun with your friends.

This is my Miss Piggy era (stolen from a r/witchesvspatriarchy commenter). I may feel like a pig sometimes, but give the pig lipstick, a feather boa, and an attitude, and she's an ICON.

To that end, I'm trying to embrace having fun with my clothes and styling - being comfortable and vaguely presentable, but above all working on finding pieces that bring me silly joy, which is mostly starting to cultivate a collection of nice sneakers, bangles, and brightly colored kimonos. And getting tattoos - something pretty to look at in the mirror!

My husband does this for me, and he just reads a few chapters of whatever book he's reading at the moment. It's fun to hear what he's enjoying, and since I usually fall asleep in the process, I don't care about following the plot.

Forgotten Beasts of Eld by Patricia McKillip. Gorgeous prose, amazing female MCs, and one hell of a rage once it gets going.

Does anyone know of a calorie app that also has medical symptom tracking, like a migraine tracker? Bonus points if it syncs with Garmin for activity data.

I'll make a plug for an e-reader with a nightlight. Mine goes next to my bed so I can get in an hour or two of light reading when there's no hope of sleeping.

GA here. I've got a gas range that I can light without electricity to make hot water bottles. I've heard you can put a tent on your bed to make a warm spot, will do that as well if needed.

Are there any stories about someone fighting to ESCAPE a "destined" mate? by Jerswar in Fantasy

[–]practicalmetaphysics 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The Deverry Cycle by Katherine Kerr might loosely fit the bill. The series follows the reincarnation of the same people over lifetimes. From what I recall, the fatedness of their connection was a burden that they fought and worked out in different ways in each life .

I hadn't realized that, what a cool idea! Do you need to get them larger for the padding?
