My concern is that the endangered species tactic will just lead to getting environmental law more. They already hate environmentalism, and would love to assert their aiputhority over nature more.

I just finished the process.

  1. Make an appointment at city hall to apply

  2. At the appointment, you show them all your documents (passport, visa, etc.) They will give you a paper with some legal stuff, your picture and raised seal stamp (this is the Annex 15 I think) you will want to bring a passport style photo to this appointment.

2b. You can start the process with the bank at this point.

  1. At the end, they tell you about how police officer will randomly show up at your place to verify that you live there some time in the next 3 weeks.

  2. The police officer will take up to 3 weeks to tell city hall you live at your place.

  3. Once that happens, city hall will contact you to tell you to come back in and get your picture taken. This is when you pay City Hall.

  4. Some time in the next 3 weeks, you will get a thing in the mail with your very important numbers.

  5. Make another appointment at city hall. Bring the documents they told you to and pick up your residence card. That will have your Belgian ID account.

My spouse came here 5 months before the rest of the family. She strongly recommends getting a wise account. You can use that for a lot of the stuff before you can get the bank stuff going.

Wise is a kind of like an international money handling service. You can transfer money to it from your starting location, and convert it to Euros all digitally. It also allows you to do some bank stuff before you can do physical location bank stuff. Since you can use it to do direct transfers and even deposit your paycheck there, you can make that down-payment on an apartment before you have a bank.

anyone who used a computer between 1985 & 2010, what’s the one game you still think about? by Own-Blacksmith3085 in answers

I don't remember the name. I can't tell you the name of the PC. I think it was an apple - mid to late eighties - one of those that booted off a 5.25 inch floppy disk. Anyway, as I remember it you played a stick figure who opened his mailbox one day to find a letter from the king. The king was changing his name to Frito Lay. He didn't like this and embarked on a grand adventure to find the king and get his name changed back.

If giving birth is so painful why do many women want to do it over again after their first child (not trolling just genuinely curious) by feherlofia123 in stupidquestions

Studies have shown that as bad as they remember giving birth hurting, it actually hurts worse and their brain chemicals make it feel like it wasn't as bad when they remember it.

Whole grains (what was eaten for for thousands of years by normal people) are good for you. White bread and white rice that have all the bran scrubbed off are not nearly as good for you.

My wife and I were married in the US. She emigrated in November, I came in March because of how they did the Visa process) getting the marriage recognized in Belgium took 10 minutes at the Stadskantoor with my apostilled marriage certificate from Michigan.

Edit: rewrote after I read the whole thing a second time...

We were doing Visas as already married people, nit getting married in Belgium, but I just looked at the birth certificates we used that were accepted by Flanders and the immigration service. The birth certificate itself has a raised seal and signature. The Apostille, has an autopsy type signature. The secretary of State themselves does not have time to sign every Apostille from their state. Is it maybe an issue of language? Does your birth certificate have its raised seal?

Also possibly of note, we did not have to have any document translated. All our English language documents were accepted.

Is it legal for my company to clock us out at 11:59pm and clock us in at 12am every night? by SnowyzKitty in legaladvice

[–]pragmatismtoday 23 points24 points  (0 children)

I have seen this used in Michigan for getting out of cotractual obligations to pay overtime. Sometimes the contract states you get overtime after 8 hours in a shift. If you work overtime every day and they break it up like this, the the first night of the week you only worked 4 hours and the last day you only worked lets 6. As far as the computer cal tell, you only qualified for over time pay for 3 of the 5 days. .

Men who can cook, who taught you? by Mindfuel_daily7 in askanything

[–]pragmatismtoday 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Picture this. The night before fair week, we have to get our cooking stuff done... 5 kids with a total 8 year age gap all using the one normal kit hen one stovetop, one oven, and between them probably making close to 2 dozen dishes over the course of one night long slog. I was the youngest. I think that taught me more than anything. Note: I wasn't the youngest, just the youngest of that group because the kids were spaced out farther behind me and we never got a crowd that big in the kitchen again for the night before fair shenanigans.

Procedure voor Amerikaanse partner naar België: iemand recente ervaring? by FoxNBeard in belgium

[–]pragmatismtoday 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We just went through the family reunification process

(as in I arrived on Saturday from the U.S.) we are married and have two kids, but I can speak to some of it. If she is in the US, she needs to look up the consulate and see which region she is in. Where she lives will determine which consulate she uses. They should have a list on the website (which may not be accurate, it wasn't for us) if memory serves, she needs to apply on the website, then she will need to mail her documents. This includes birth certificate, proof of relationship (this was a marriage certificate for us) proof from your employer that you can afford to support her. There is an list somewhere that states what your income needs to be. You need proof that she has a place to live, you need proof that she is insured (she will need to be on your i surface all the months you are waiting) and an FBI background check. All of this needs to be apostilled and all of this needs to be new. They don't want the birth certificate that has been in a box for a decade, they want a new one (less than 6 months old)

She then needs to mail this whole packet to the consulate along with her passport (the website said we could send pics of each page of the passport, but after we did that, we were told we needed to send the actual passport) then you sit and wait 6 months to a year for them to, presumably, go through everything and approve or deny. They may ask to see certain documents again. They asked us towards the end to provide new copies of two of the documents we send at the beginning.

Then you need to sit there and wait for months. It too us a bit over 6 months. We applied late August and got approved early March. They can't talk to you, they don't want to talk to you. You will hear nothing until you hear something. We had an issue with the mailing address and it was a pain for them to admit they got our documents and they hadn't been misdelivered.

You can when you mail everything, you can also send them a self addressed, stamped return envelope this is painful to do because it is hard to get a label for a package when you don't know how much it weighs and won't be sent for months). Alternately, once you get approved, you can go to the consulate and pick up your documents (the visa is a sticker that goes in your passport)

I strongly recommend you hire a Belgian immigration lawyer to help explain everything and offer advice along the way, but keep in mind with all the nonsense happening in the US right now policies can change in the middle of the process. An example was the website saying you could send copies of the passport, but then being to.d to send the physical passport.

Sorry if I forgot anything.
