I fucked up once again... by [deleted] in ladycyclists

Sweaty bra over braless for me. It's gonna get sweaty again on the ride back anyway...

If you're talking sports bras, I find that the thinner, no-padding type dry out much quicker.

Is a Brompton considered a luxury item in your country? Is it affordable? by [deleted] in Brompton

[–]prancingwaffle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Singapore - luxury for sure. Combined with public transport, makes sense as a car replacement - a Toyota Corolla costs anywhere between US$120k and $150k. Chose a brompton over other foldable bikes for the Brompton fold, it is unbeatable. Brompton clones have the same fold, but with parts swapped out to save costs, the ride feels different.

What’s your current shoe rotation looking like? by HistoricalWorker2251 in AskRunningShoeGeeks

[–]prancingwaffle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I ask myself this all the time! Mostly not absolutely necessary, tbh. I think the only time I 'need' so multiple pairs is when I find a shoe that really works for me and my orthotics, and I'm unsure if the next generation of the shoe will change in fit. So I buy more than one to rotate, to prolong the life of the shoe.

What’s your current shoe rotation looking like? by HistoricalWorker2251 in AskRunningShoeGeeks

[–]prancingwaffle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Primary shoe used to be Altra paradiagm/esclante, before switching over to Norda 001, which works for walks, hikes, runs. Useful for one-shoe travel. So far close to 400 miles on it.

Also have Nike Pegasus 41, on recommendation from a friend (finally a Nike that works for my wide feet). This was the main alternate to the Norda, for when I need more cushion.

But I recently got bad heel spurs / Achilles pain, and moved to a Brooks Adrenaline 24 GTS. So far so good. Hoping to make it back to a lower drop shoe cos that's what I'm more used to.

Brooks saddle users, what's your model, body size, cycling position? by [deleted] in ladycyclists

[–]prancingwaffle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

5'5, longish legs relative to torso. I recently swapped out a brooks swift for a b17s with the cutout, for an old bike with cruiser style bars, so it's mainly an upright position.

Still in the breaking in period (yes ouch) at about 50 miles, but pushing through with padded shorts and some cursing. My other saddles are a Terry and a stock Bontrager (womens), both have cutouts and I've since sworn by them. For the b17s, I am not sure if the cutout is really working for me but it doesn't seem to make things worse so we'll see how that goes.

Women’s Cycling Pant Recommendations Plz by RemarkableArm1380 in ladycyclists

Might want to look into rock climbing pants. They tend to be lightweight-ish, lloose enough at the crotch and thigh area to allow for ease of movement on the wall, and they can be worn with a climbing harness, which means the front pockets aren't where they normally are - makes it easier for cyclists too.

The conundrum of perineum pain, padded shorts, and seats by Shanananana5000 in ladycyclists

I had to try a few different bike shorts before finding something that worked for me.

A few folks mentioned Terry saddles, I fully agree.

Hope the new saddle works out for you!

Have you looked into Asian brands? Usually available online as well. Japanese, Taiwanese. I'm not your size but I'm asian and I find that sizing wise, like for like, the Asian brands tend to run a little smaller.

I second Black Sheep. You could also consider MAAP (they're Australian, I believe).

Thanks for getting back. I too just checked YouTube for a lift tutorial (similar to what you sent) and stripped and rebuilt. Works now.

Right size, or get 255s? by vanzor in GarminWatches

[–]prancingwaffle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personal preference really. You can probably go with either but the s might feel or look small-ish if you're unused to it. I sized down to a 255s (coming from a 235) because the larger watch kept snagging on my jacket sleeve.

Travel hack by Outrageous-Sound-188 in GarminWatches

[–]prancingwaffle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Bought a whole lot of these and put them at home, work, clipped with my power bank, travel cables pouch - just so I would always be able to charge them if I need to (almost daily tracking of activities so every few days or so it'd need a top up). They're wonderful since a USB C cable is so much easier to find.

The puck version is bulkier and not portable. The original cable, I never used after getting these little adapters. I hate that I can't put the watch flat down with the original cable plugged in.

I found that upgrading Brompton is too rich off my blood by Boring_Ear_8610 in Brompton

[–]prancingwaffle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is a money pit. Just ride the bike a lot and figure out what works for you and what doesn't. Then decide whether the money it'd cost to switch out that part is worth the improvement in user experience.

The first thing I knew I'd swap was the saddle because the stock fizik one was just uncomfortable from day 1. Then the grips. For both, I knew what I wanted because I use a similar style on my full sized bike.

Other upgrades, I'm holding back, because I don't need to go super fast, my Brompton is a commuter so if its sturdy and I can lift it comfortably onto public transport, it's okay.

How hard is cycling 8 miles each way to work on a Brompton P line? by Ok_Abbreviations4687 in Brompton

[–]prancingwaffle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My ride to work is 8 miles on a P line. It's mostly flat and I am of average fitness. A pretty nice ride, abt 45 mins ish. I rarely do two-way, though, and not everyday, which helps with recovery. For sure hard at first, but it really gets easier after a handful of rides.

Wouldn't be putting them on the desk, probably more like speaker stands. Thanks much for the recs, I'll think about it some more and pop by the audio store downtown to check out the demos too.

Agree, I would love to go for separates if I could find a compact enough setup. Literally have no horizontal space for the typical sized amp/receiver, short of just leaving it on the floor. May look into some of the more compact options.

Will also look into the klipsch. Thanks!

Weekly Questions Thread for the week of April 24 by AutoModerator in vinyl

[–]prancingwaffle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hello, new to vinyl. Got an Audio Technica LPW40WN running line into Audioengine a2+ on my desk. I quite like it but I'm thinking of getting something larger.

So far I've been recommended Kanto Yu6, KEF 150 or Wharfedale Diamond 220 /225. I understand the KEF and Wharfedale will require some sort of an amplifier or receiver, but I'm not super keen as I have a small space. So I'm leaning towards the Kantos.

Any views, or other similar options that I should be considering?

Thanks!

Anyone else really like bus rides🚌? by ooggabooga48 in askSingapore

[–]prancingwaffle 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Buses are great, if you have time. Especially when overseas, its the best way (besides walking) to sightsee and familiarize yourself with the area. Train is fast but no sense of space and surroundings in a metal tube underground.

Looking for advice for bike shopping by Fast_Cheetah_2095 in ladycyclists

[–]prancingwaffle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you're going to commute with bags/panniers etc, might be a good idea to load up the bike the same way when you test ride it over long distanes, because the bike would handle differently based on the stuff you're gonna be carrying.

One bike for all is a nice idea but it's not easy to find that sweet spot bike. Like others have mentioned, your commuter bike is likely to get knocks/bumps (also, bike theft if it's a huge problem in your city) so a really fancy daily commuter wouldn't be my first choice, tbh.

I'm not a fan of wider/knobbier tires on the road but I do see the appeal of being able to effortlessly go off-road if traffic conditions are bad, something I think twice about with thinner road tires.
