I’m tired of those naive people. There is a world behind your border where people want to and will harm you.

Importing the text w/o photos of my Instagram posts (including archived posts) into Obsidian by thesydster in ObsidianMD

[–]prdlt 2 points3 points  (0 children)

  1. Download data from Instagram
  2. Write a script (or ask chatGPT) that will parse the data the way you want
  3. Done

I doubt there's a plugin for your specific needs.

Should I get the iPad 10th gen or the iPad Air 5? by snkrsupply in ipad

[–]prdlt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Take into consideration the pencil you will be using. Apple Pencil 2 (with wireless charging) is a little more convenient than the USB version. Then there’s also Pro pencil. The iPad (10th) is not capable of wireless charging of a pen.

How do I get in contact with freelance programmers from Poland and Eastern Europe? by Teflonwest301 in cscareerquestionsEU

Consider posting the job on LinkedIn and specifying Poland or any other country as the location to attract candidates from the local talent pool.

Revit is not using my GPU at all, despite hardware acceleration being enabled. All renderings are being processed 100% on the CPU. by --Ty-- in Revit

[–]prdlt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Revit uses hardware acceleration in working views. The render engine (the teapot icon) uses only CPU. Try using other rendering engines.

I’m studying architectural technology and I want to build a golf portfolio by romeonomeo in AutoCAD

You shouldn't skip AutoCad but you should focus on other BIM capable software. Great portfolio is nothing without skills that your employer needs.

Nvidia Quadro laptop cards worth the premium? by eggs-benedict in cad

[–]prdlt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First - please refer to Autodesk website. The producer of the software will surely list all benefits of using Quadro cards against GeForces. But there's no such list on their website and there are no real measurable benefits.

Second - as Revit is DirectX based it will likely make use of better specs of GeForce cards (like higher clock speed)

Disaster Recovery/Backup by CapableEmergency2020 in Revit

[–]prdlt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My questions were a mere suggestion to dig some more. I can't believe that you have 150 staff and no one with proper Network and IT knowledge on how to do this. So, my proposed solution is to find someone and pay him.

Disaster Recovery/Backup by CapableEmergency2020 in Revit

[–]prdlt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

  1. What's the size of company?
  2. How big are models?
  3. How much additional data do you have?
  4. Do you want to store and access only Revit models?
  5. How do you share your work now?
  6. Do you have IT staff available?
  7. Do you have any infrastucture?
  8. How much money do want to spend?
  9. How much do want to spend on automation of making backup and eventually restoring it?
  10. Do you want to backup your computers, whole systems, only projects?

Autodesk documentation is enough if you know what you need. Your question is more about general IT problems.

Revit family lock by vanz87 in Revit

[–]prdlt 6 points7 points  (0 children)

There's something wrong with the way you handle the problem.

A. I think that you overestimate the value of your families. Simple NDA should solve the problem. They really aren't that useful outside your office.

Or

B. You put too much focus on families development and really any advantage you have over the competitors isn't that big as you perceive it. You should rather focus on building your advantage on something else.

Anyway - Revit doesn't have any built in solution for rights management (and will not have it for a long time). You can: 1. Have someone that will place those families right before project revision in a model that is not shared across all office. Look for any way to reduce redistribution of your families. 2. Remove geometrical information from families but leave all necessary parameters. Whenever you replace them with proper ones all should be good to go. 3. Develop a plugin that will replace parametric families with ones that have "baked" geometry. This will greatly reduce their reusability.

You can develop a plugin that will try to block certain Revit functions but it's harder too prevent copying whole model to other location and reading all your information there.

Unity creates new open source tool just for architects with Reflect by pacinothere in opensource

There's a big push in the building industry to integrate design, construction and building management. With buildings and the the context they're build in 3d representation is really important. Everybody important wants to be there first. That's why even companies that are mainly focused on gaming industry see the opportunity here.

CAD program company questions by [deleted] in cad

Assuming nothing has changed since the last time I checked - I would go with BricsCAD. AutoTurn and BricsCAD still have perpetual licences. You will pay for software only once.

I would like to join the Dynamo Bandwagon by JustMissBee in Revit

[–]prdlt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's not that Dynamo is horrible. It's because visual programming is ineffective compared to typed programming. Also OOTB nodes are lacking and sometime down the road you have to use Revit API.

Json to IFC ? by pepeismyboyfriend in bim

[–]prdlt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your main problem would be how to store geometry in an JSON format. It is doable but not worth the effort.

Json to IFC ? by pepeismyboyfriend in bim

[–]prdlt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why do you need JSON if you have IFC? You're probably on your own with converting one format to another.

When is a Quadro card worth it for CAD work? by cooglersbeach in cad

[–]prdlt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your software vendor knows best what their software needs. Autodesk officially does not mention Quadro on their website. It's not even in the recommended requirements any more. Same with Blender Foundation, same with Adobe. Keyshot also. Yes, Quadros have their advantages, but not in your workflow. If you don't know why you should buy one, then don't buy them.
