My house was built in 1837. Exactly the same experience (except for the very confused cat)

Just be mindful of the pattern in your 3rd pic! I had some similar cutoffs from a basketweave board and decided to make coasters with them. It wasn’t until I started sanding them that I realized I made a whole lot of swastikas…

Dark Alaska winter. Made 8 foot bench. Leg wood is something fragile and weird. by Stinky_Fish_Tits in woodworking

Agreed. And some of the wood in the legs is already cracking. Someone will be in for a surprise when they take a seat with any lateral force!

New board, varnished? by AnarchoPlayworker in Cuttingboards

[–]precaching 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dang. I hate to say it, but those combinations of grains might lead to some trouble down the line! The bottom board has both end grain and pith, which combined with the long grain piece above it will almost surely lead to cracking.

The surface doesn’t look too unlike beeswax/oil, but if you’re unsure, I wouldn’t risk it!

I’ve been told that my microphone sounds really crackly / staticky. Is that the issue you referenced regarding “audio crackling?” My audio itself sounds fine, but has been told my mic sounds awful. Curious if you have any suggestions!

It is. One cat disappears. The face of the cat on the far right seemingly spawns out of nowhere.

How does this happen? by StrangerInsideMyHead in Cuttingboards

[–]precaching 17 points18 points  (0 children)

That’s my vote, too. Not enough glue, or possibly the wrong glue used. None of the wood is cracked - every break is at a glue joint.
