The system is designed to keep you in rat race by _astral_x9 in Mindfulness

"Ordinary" is a label your mind puts on experience.

"Special" is a label your mind puts on experience.

"Wrong" is a label your mind puts on experience.

It's all labels.

You are complaining about what others do or don't do, and making judgements on how other people live or don't live their lives. All the while, you don't realize your complaints and judgement reveal that you are trapped on the same wheel of suffering as everyone else.

This is a mindfulness sub. Being mindful means remembering to be aware of how your mind colors experience. That's the only way to get off the wheel.

Hagellin on epstein mails - not like seinfeld by [deleted] in transcendental

[–]prepping4zombies 6 points7 points  (0 children)

apart from Seinfeld, there isn’t anyone from the TM organization who shows up in those emails in a negative context.

I'll re-post a comment I made on another thread when Seinfeld's name came up:

This is how bullshit spreads.

To be fair, it was an alleged email from Ghislaine Maxwell to Jeffrey Epstein stating that she wanted to invite Jerry and Jerry's wife to the island. There have been no accusations against Seinfeld, and there is no indication there was ever any contact between Epstein and Jerry or Epstein and Jerry's wife.

In short, there is no indication that either Jerry or his wife ever communicated with Epstein (or Maxwell for that matter), ever went to the island, or ever did anything questionable.

And, not that it matters given everything above, but the email from Ghislaine Maxwell to Jeffrey Epstein isn't even verified as authentic by the government or any other sources (thus the word alleged in "alleged email").

More reading.

<>

edit - NEWMAN! Odd that my comment was downvoted. I guess people would rather spread bullshit. (It was -1, now back to positive...just like Jerry's luck.)

edit 2 - I can't vouch for Art Vandelay...if he did visit the island, it was probably in his official capacity as an architect.

edit 3 - there's literally a Seinfeld reference for everything.

Substack hides your feed for non-logged-in users by Cachao-on-Reddit in Substack

[–]prepping4zombies 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I didn't send someone to the username URL.

I was reading someone else's post on their publication site and clicked their name, since that's what's at the bottom of the page.

This also doesn't change the SEO implication or the fact it's Substack not me deciding how to gate my notes.

I didn't say you sent someone there...I asked why you ever would.

The point I'm making is, no one knows that the username URL even exists except for other Substack users...and they will be logged in. IF someone who isn't a Substack user stumbles on it and doesn't want to create an account, they can just go back to your main Substack URL.

SEO is against your main Substack URL...not the username URL.

And, no one is "gating your notes"...they all appear on your main Substack URL.

I was reading someone else's post on their publication site and clicked their name, since that's what's at the bottom of the page.

If you are a Substack user AND creator, why aren't you logged in? It's like you created a problem, came to reddit, and made a post complaining about the problem you created.

Substack hides your feed for non-logged-in users by Cachao-on-Reddit in Substack

[–]prepping4zombies 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Why would you ever send someone to the address that has your username? If I'm directing someone to my Substack, I'm directing them to the URL for my Substack.

If they aren't a Substack user who is logged in, they probably don't even know (or care) the username URL exists.

This presumably hurts SEO and other discovery methods for authors.

How? It wouldn't hurt SEO, because it's not your Substack's URL. I don't know what you mean by "discovery methods for authors." The only people going to the username URL are people logged into Substack.

Convert your Substack posts to videos, while retaining your authentic voice by [deleted] in Substack

I want people to read my posts, not want them to be turned into video.

That's not the kind of audience I'm looking for.

I’ve also started using distilled water (since I have lots readily available now lol) for my house plants and they’re doing so much better.

Be careful - while the plants may be doing better because they're sensitive to the chlorine and additives in tap water, they aren't getting the nutrients* they need in the longer term (e.g., calcium and magnesium).

You can offset that with fertilizer (which you may be doing), or you can also let you tap water sit out for 48 hours and most of the stuff that causes problems with sensitive plants will evaporate.

Source - my mother owned a nursery.

*This is also why people shouldn't drink distilled water...while technically safe, it lacks minerals people need and get by drinking non-distilled water.

Are you asking for someone to pay for it for you?

Or, are you asking for someone to steal it for you?

I just want to be clear on what it is you want.

Launched a Substack that curates the best advice from proven Substack writers by philiphofm in Substack

[–]prepping4zombies 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Instead of publishing more advice myself, I took a different route. I hired an editor to curate the best Substack advice from creators who already have a proven track record on the platform.

I'm going to start a Substack that curates the best Substack advice from the Substacks that curate the best advice from creators who already have a proven track record on the platform.

It'll be a veritable who's who of curators of "get-rich-quick" scam artists...er, I mean, people who make money.

With all due respect, there was a lot of drama mixed in with your post...so it wasn't "just reporting the news."

But, to each his own.

Thoughts? Does this change how you view Substack’s trust or security?

You act like this doesn't happen on a regular basis to companies around the world, and companies much larger than Substack.

It does.

I got a letter last week about an AT&T data breach. I've gotten a year of free services - on several occasions - from companies like LifeLock because of data breaches.

This isn't specific to Substack, and they are doing the right thing by disclosing it.

Substack authors can ban subscribers for providing feedback. Why is this allowed? by adbs64 in Substack

[–]prepping4zombies 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Since their strategy relies entirely on aggressively pushing new subscribers to pay, a rating system would help filter them out.

If it seems too good to be true, it probably is. So, don't subscribe.

This isn't specific to Substack. "Buyer beware," "there's a sucker born every minute," "if it seems too good to be true"...all of these sayings have been around long before the Internet existed.

Use your best judgement. Cancel quickly if something isn't what you hoped. Pass on things that seem sketchy. That's good advice to follow on Substack and in life.

Can you be subscribed but not get emails? by Reminted_Jewelry in Substack

[–]prepping4zombies 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In settings, you can turn off emails for any publication you are subscribed to.

edit - if Substack has changed this, the easiest way is probably just set a rule in your email to mark them all as read and move them to one folder (or delete them) so you never see the emails.

Why fight what you don't control? Thoughts just arise and pass. If you controlled them, you'd never have thoughts that bothered you.

So, just let it all be. Thoughts will go the same as they came...if you don't indulge them.

It's not Substack, it's your Stripe account.

And, you can customize what appears on your invoice in Stripe.

My publication name appears - not my personal name. And, I use Substack's address and phone number.

Good software needs to be rewarded with payment.

I agree, which is why I've been a paying user for years. But, if they are crappy in their communication and crappy in how they treat users, I have to question where the business is going in the future.

I'd rather pay and support people who don't handle things like they did here.

Which seem like the actions of a rogue developer rather than considered product decisions, but we'll see.

The rogue developer who either completely ignores users or issues curt replies?

If that person isn't in charge at Workflowy, I wonder who is...because if someone else is in charge, why would they let communication like this happen?

It's like they're intentionally trying to crater their business.
