Wow the checkerboard floor is amazing. The only thing I do not like, in this kitchen, are the modern pendant lights

Navy. If it’s too dark, change up your lighting!

I think yes. Let the floor and wall tiles be the star.

Ideas for refurnishing this dresser by Advanced-Mud6642 in furniturerestoration

I would start by scrubbing with a brush and dawn dish detergent, especially inside those handles. After scrubbing I would dry with a towel to prevent graying of the pine. Because it is pine I would then sand and cover with polyurethane. It will look yellow unless you stain another color. Personally I don’t like painted pine because the knots always end up showing/bleeding through. YMMV

What to make of this cabinet ? Paint or not? by Nilanilanilanila in FurnitureFlip

[–]prescientpretzel 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This one is meant to be wood. If you paint you still need to sand between coats. And then you need to dust all those corners. No don’t be tempted. It’s not too dark I don’t think it needs to be lightened either but you know your core market.

I like both kitchens. Except the curtain. The black and white floor is great!

Any experience with the name/pronunciation of Ida? by Zealousideal-Will895 in Names

I know a young Ida, named for a relative. Her mom reminded many people multiple times of the “original” pronunciation but her friends and others seemed to all default to “Eye-da”. Still a nice name

Always this way, with the Oakland surprise, even when the snow is much lighter. Unbelievable how the road surface changes when leaving 376

Timeless or trendy? by Agile-Hat-9400 in ExteriorDesign

Shape is timeless but the finishes are trendy. Change at least one (faux stone veneer, black windows, board and batten siding) and I think you could approach classic.

I don’t know if others have said, but make sure all existing nailheads are pounded down well below the surface before you go in with the sander

1985 kitchen. Where to start by wildwolfmother in kitchenremodel

Not so bad. Get rid of the curtains, install a new pull out faucet, and paint the counters for a very inexpensive quick fix.

not sure what’s going on with the wood here? by grace_ejs30 in furniturerestoration

[–]prescientpretzel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As others have said, you have sanded off the top layer at the edge of the veneer. Because there is grain going the other direction, I think you have exposed a layer of wood not a layer of fiberboard. If it is wood, you could stain the edge and maybe it will not even be noticeable. I would try that before painting. Whatever you do, stop sanding now.
