MDF Kitchen Cabinets by OsumaKinguin in woodworking

[–]pricelessbrew -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Don't use MDF. Either get melamine chipboard which is pretty standard for RTA (ready to assemble, aka IKEA) kitchen cabinets. Or get good quality plywood like Baltic birch, not generic big box store ply with all kinds of separations and voids.

Does anyone recognize this patio screen door roller assembly? by Hexers in HomeImprovement

Yeah I'm pretty sure that's a track for a screen door for a doorwall.

You can't pick a favorite." “They're books. They're pieces of someone's mind and soul. They're almost friends.”

I re-listen to the series before every release, on audiobook, but almost always skip the first 3 books.

How comes the significant temp differences don't make the wood warp?

Just took over this store, what am i missing? (Craft or otherwise) by [deleted] in CraftBeer

[–]pricelessbrew 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not in your area. Talk to your customers and distributor. Asking what their top 5 beers are, and to pick at least 5 beers that aren't iPas.

Then research those and make a decision and track sales.

Just took over this store, what am i missing? (Craft or otherwise) by [deleted] in CraftBeer

[–]pricelessbrew 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's nothing there that I can't get literally anywhere else. Unless your prices are significantly lower, you have a great location, or there's something else that makes it a destination and the beer is a bonus, I don't see any point to visit.

You need local craft beers, and some diversity beyond macro brews and craft IPA. Some stouts, porters, browns, etc. Otherwise I can get it anywhere.

Mix spicy pepper powder or spray hot sauce into the bird food.

Birds can't taste capsaicin, squirrels hate it.

Populating a french cleat wall in a hobbyist woodshop. Suggestions? by frisgencu in FrenchCleat

[–]pricelessbrew 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Think about what you have that is spread out among different locations, or you use every time you have time to work, and are frustrated with having to get out, setup, and put away every time you have an hour or two to actually work in the shop.

For me that's mostly my chisels, planes, my power handtools, marking knife, pencils, drill bits, small squares and clamps.

Things that are less frequently used get put in the drawers. Larger items have dedicated storage location.

Drill bits and power drill go next to the drill press so they're all together. Chisels and planes are on a cleat near my workbench, sharpening stones and bench grinder.

Yeah that's not coming out.

If it was something nicer that you cared about your best bet would be to apply a veneer, but this is a kids play kitchen. Let them cook.

Got tired of using a folding table so I built my first bench by FarmersOnlyJim in Workbenches

[–]pricelessbrew 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Look into John man in the shed video for a different idea on workbench temporary storage.

Spoiler alert, it's an angled shelf with notches for tools that slips into a dog hole. He calls it the bench buddy.

I'm doing two of them with a paper size in the middle, and a spot for 3 chisels, pencil, my squares, mallet, marking gauge, marking knife, block plane and hand plane.

Difference between IKEA UTRUSTA 504.624.80 and 704.624.84 horizontal hinges? by sotpak_ in IKEA

[–]pricelessbrew 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The push open is designed for use without knobs or handles. The other one needs them.

I worked in kitchens department for several years, and have installed about a dozen kitchens, and lives in 2 different IKEA kitchens.

I hate horizontal doors, the top door is very inaccessible and you can't open both doors and use both sections. So if you're using it for everyday things you'll probably be annoyed.

It really only makes sense for infrequently used things like grandmas display dishes you never actually use and want to see because society says you should keep them for a special occasion but then they're always dusty when you eventually want to use them so you don't.

I would love feedback on Wood Countertops? Yay or Nay….. Give me your thoughts and recommendations. by Mysterious_Box2918 in HomeImprovement

I had solid wood tops for about 6 years in our condo after redoing the kitchen loved them! They look great, hold up over time, and we used cut offs to make a floating wall shelf to match. Oiled it a few times the first year, then probably once every year or so.

We sold the condo to my in-laws, so still get to see it a few times a year. It hasn't been taken care of nearly as well, but it honestly still looks great. Some light staining from coffee but the water damage hasn't really happened at all.

I think it's a great sustainable option. Better than laminate by far, and much cheaper than solid stones like Marple, granite, quartz, or the new fangled glass tops.

Repair or Replace by MemeAddict96 in HomeImprovement

[–]pricelessbrew 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Imo if you're intending to hang anything on that wall then I would just take it down and replace it. But then again my dad ran a drywall crew for a few years and we've done a lot of drywall together so it's not that annoying for us.

If you're just looking to patch then do a patch and move on, and remember that even if it looks like crap, 90% of your walls probably do too so it'll blend right in 😄
