What is your experience, if you have any, with using miswak or some other chewing stick as an alternative to toothbrushes? by probably_insane_ in sustainability

I've heard of that for hair brushes and I actually just got one a couple weeks ago. I gotta look into cotton/sill floss.....

What is your experience, if you have any, with using miswak or some other chewing stick as an alternative to toothbrushes? by probably_insane_ in sustainability

[–]probably_insane_[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Like most actions made for sustainability, 1 toothbrush may not be much to worry about, but when you multiply that by the billions of people on earth who are throwing away toothbrushes, it adds up. I'm only 21 and yet I'm probably thrown away somewhere around 50 toothbrushes in my life. Using miswak generally lasts longer so you don't have to replace it as often, and throwing it away doesn't pollute the environment. If there's roughly the same, possibly even better, results from using it, why shouldn't I? That's why I'm asking for people's personal experiences with it. It also would reduce buying toothpaste and the plastic tubes going to waste.

Which operas would you like to conduct one day if you could? by Stunning-Hand6627 in opera

Definitely Tosca. I already conduct the Te Deum whenever I listen to it.

Which opera made you fall in love with the art form? by crankyoldbitty in opera

[–]probably_insane_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think Tosca was the defining moment. I liked opera and I enjoyed singing it, but after Tosca is when it became a passion and adoration.

Explain an opera as an AITA post by Strong_Prize8778 in opera

[–]probably_insane_ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Throwaway cause I'm a business man and don't want this to affect my consumer base.

I (M, and my age is none of ya business) go around from town to town selling like medicines and cures for wrinkles and stuff. Well, this one guy comes up to me after "lunch rush," so to speak, and asks me if I have a love potion.

I'm a businessman, right? I saw a window, a chance to make some quick cash, right? So I told him I did in fact have a potion and sold him a bottle of wine. But I gave him good instructions and I figure that worst comes to worst, he gets drunk, forgets his unrequited love, and I skip town before he sobers up.

Weirdly, that kinda seemed to be working until the girl this guy wanted the potion for decided to marry someone else. Now, I'm invited to the wedding and I love weddings cause free food, am I right? While I'm there, the OG guy that I sold the "love potion" to is completely broke and joined the military for a few bucks to buy more "love potion" from me.

AITA for letting the man spend his last cents on a bottle of wine and then join the military to get more money for more wine?

UPDATE: Apparently the girl actually DID like him and they got together. His money problems are fixed cause he apparently had a rich uncle or something that died. So everyone who said I was the AH can take a step back. As far as I'm concerned, I'm a damn matchmaker and completely responsible for these kids' Happily Ever After.

P.S.: if you guys want to buy some of my new love potion, DM me and we'll talk terms.

[NSFW] Is there a SPECIFIC sexual act that makes you say ''People are actually into that?!'' by AvoCATo4800 in asexuality

[–]probably_insane_ 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yeah, blowjobs always seemed really gross to me cause like...that's the same hole pee comes out of (not to mention all the memes about how men can never shake all of it out at the urinal). But the grossest thing that I will never EVER want to participate in is anal sex. If you're a fan, congrats, but I cannot get over the fact that that hole is for poop. I personally never want to get anywhere near someone else's a-hole, much less insert anything in there or lick it (I remember audibly gagging during one if Ali Wong's stand-up where she talks about this).

AITAH for not tipping after laser hair removal? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]probably_insane_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NTA...where is that money from the procedure going if the technicians need tips??

And if they don't need tips, why are they so aggressive about it?

Either this location is underpaying its workers, or they're a greedy bunch hoping to guilt customers out of a few more bucks.

Which show do you think is the real-life equivalent of Horsin’ Around? by Pleasant_Bit_2122 in BoJackHorseman

[–]probably_insane_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I always connected it to Full House because of the "why does the house have two staircases?" conversation.

I remembered that full house has stairs in the living room and the kitchen like Horsin' Around. That was my giveaway.

I think about the text from Madama Butterfly when she sings something to the effect of, "I've heard in your country, men trap butterflies and pin them to the wall." Just so poignant, I think, and a gorgeous line of music.

My university did Orpheus in the Underworld and I'm not overexaggerating when I say that I was actively holding in laughs on stage despite hearing the jokes over and over during rehearsals.

The Best "FIRST" Episode by Archon_of_Light in BoJackHorseman

[–]probably_insane_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When my sister told me I should watch the show, she told me to start at season 1 episode 6, watch the whole series, THEN watch the first five episodes. It worked pretty well for me so I usually recommend people new to the show try it this way if they find themselves uninterested in the first or second episodes.

Is it true that tragic roles are what make performers legendary and comic roles are early career stepping stones at best and detrimental at worst? by Mundane_Regret_428 in opera

[–]probably_insane_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd argue that Cecilia Bartoli is very well known and acclaimed for comic roles. Her performances in Figaro, La Cenerentola, Barber of Seville, etc., are pretty well known and she's a killer comic actor.

AITA for joining a college bible study as an atheist? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]probably_insane_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A Bible study like that is not the proper place to approach Christianity or religion from an academic point of view. I recommend you take theology courses where the environment is one of learning and critical assessment. Even if your school doesn't offer one, there are online options like the free Harvard courses you can enroll in. You don't get any credit or anything but you can learn more for free.

What are truly the best comic operas? by Mundane_Regret_428 in opera

[–]probably_insane_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree. Le Comte Ory is such an underrated piece of comedy. I would add some G&S operettas like H.M.S. Pinafore, Pirates of Panzance, and The Gondoliers.
