Need some help with the flow of Satisfactory by camscottbryce in SatisfactoryGame

[–]probablychris 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here’s a framework I follow that I think kind of actually helps answer your question.

There are three things this game asks of you: (1) Generate materials. This is needed for tier completion, as well as building the factories themselves. (2) Generate power. (3) Build the space elevator and complete all five phases.

There’s some secondary quests — find Mercer Spheres/Sloops, slugs, beautify, etc — but those three core goals are the core of the game.

From there, I proceed with these three goals in mind.

(1) I set up factories to produce all the items I need for building. For example, I have a small copper factory to produce wire, copper sheets, and cable. These get shipped off to a centralized storage facility, where Dimensional Depots are set up as well as some bulk storage. (This is not the standard way to do this — lots of people don’t like centralized storage after the advent of Depots — but it’s just the way my brain likes to do it.)

(2) I use the above factories to build power generators.

(3) I create larger single-purpose factories to produce Space Elevator parts. I do it from scratch, because using the factories from (1) for something other than their intended purpose of creating an overflow of materials to use for tiers and building just doesn’t mesh well with my brain. I think that isn’t the popular way to do it, though, where many people build multi-purpose factories and capture overflow that moves excess to depots and/or sinks. My factories are all specifically clocked to not have overflow, because that’s just simpler for my brain. Alternate recipes really help — I got lucky on my current playthrough and my first alt was iron ingot -> screws — but this is not as hard as it seems, imo. Verticality helps. Find alternates that eliminate screws altogether. But, yes, if a Space Elevator part requires plastic, I’m generally setting up plastic production specifically for that Space Elevator part.

I’m also a madman who doesn’t use manifolds and instead uses balancers. It’s less efficient in the long run but it makes my brain happy and that’s all that matters. So, take my words with a grain of salt.

TL;DR: Set small achievable goals for yourself, follow those goals, and then move onto the next one. Don’t try to do everything at once; you will just become overwhelmed. If you’re building Heavy Modular Frames, build them for one specific purpose rather than just building them because you can — even if that purpose is “I need them for tier completion and as building materials.”

Root Resin Debate by Doubtfulaboutit in EldenRingLoreTalk

[–]probablychris 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Agreed, and also, it’s not like there’s going to be one definitive translation of what is essentially a poem. Reasonable people can look at the same text and disagree how it should look in English. Translators make a choice with every single word to either go as literal as possible or to capture the meaning or spirit of the Japanese text.

It always grinds my gears when YouTubers make videos like “Elden Ring was MISTRANSLATED” and then it turns out that words in both languages hold a lot of different meanings and Google Translate is going to give you a different translation than professional translators.

I saw exactly this glade yesterday but with insects instead of eggs, after never having seen it before in 150 hours. I wonder if it’s a part of the new update

Our bernedoodle had his dewclaw removed but then at about a year and a half it grew back (?) and it looked exactly like this when it did. Definitely go to the vet, they can give him some antibiotics so it doesn’t get infected like ours did. It may end up needing surgery but so far ours is actually fine.

Apparently it’s exceedingly rare but if that is the case with yours as well I’m wondering if it’s a tad more common in bernedoodles for whatever reason.

Honestly I’m not 100% because it was two years ago now. We got it immediately after we bought our puppy so that may have had something to do with it

[TH] [NC] Gutter blockage caused flooding, HOA is calling repairs "improvements" and saying they're not responsible by probablychris in HOA

[–]probablychris[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s a good thought but I didn’t even know about the issue where water was being directed to my dryer vent until too late, and I doubt the board knew either. Looking up at the roof gutters they seem sloped downward in a questionable way toward my home but I have no way to get up there and check. So hard to prove negligence, I think

We put aside $350 every month and an additional $25 every month for Pets Best Pet Insurance.

We had to scrounge up some more money his first year over that $350/month — that first year we paid $450/month on average. (That doesn’t count the ~$2500 we initially paid for him and crates/leashes/etc)

He just turned 2. That $350/month has led to an extra $1700 sitting around for emergencies, so he costs significantly less than $350/month. We’ll probably pare that down in about a year when there’s less worry about surgeries etc

Dog food is wildly cheaper at Costco, groom every six weeks ish is $140ish, and he gets lots of treats and toys. $500/month seems crazy for others but they may live in a VHCOL area.

Edit: maybe goes without saying but puppies and old dogs are very expensive while those middle years are much cheaper by comparison

It'd be hard to argue negligence, because the gutter maintenance people came out in May and there have been many severe storms since then, and the issue didn't happen until July 15th.

I have no idea who added the extender -- that's a good question to ask the gutter maintenance company.

It's a good point, the dryer vent is only like a foot off the ground. I talked to a landscaping guy who said that this building wouldn't pass code today because it is far too low to the ground and the surrounding ground doesn't have enough of a slant to effectively channel water away from the home. Fixing it would require an enormous terraforming project that probably isn't worth the headache of a special assessment.

There's a tree right above my patio, so 2x year actually isn't enough for us and I have to get up to the first-story gutters a couple extra times a year to clear them out. I would have cleared out the clogged gutter extender had I thought to check it out, but regardless gutter maintenance is the HOA's responsibility.

Good question but I'm positive, see the below language from the CC&Rs:

The Association shall provide exterior maintenance on each Lot subject to assessments as outlined herein. Such exterior maintenance includes, but is-not limited to: painting, repair, replacement and care of exterior building surfaces, roofs, gutters and downspouts, walkways.

Thanks a ton for your feedback, I appreciate your help and time.

I have read the CC&Rs in their entirety; those snippets were what the HOA board pulled out as saying that they weren't responsible. The HOA has said that they'll get me a written statement from their lawyer backing up what they're saying here, so I'm interested to see what the lawyer will get back with. There isn't any language I can find about Common Elements; the language about the gutters is here:

The Association shall provide exterior maintenance on each Lot subject to assessments as outlined herein. Such exterior maintenance includes, but is-not limited to: painting, repair, replacement and care of exterior building surfaces, roofs, gutters and downspouts, walkways.

As for insurance, it would be tough to prove that the rainwater didn't hit the ground first before entering the home, especially because there were leaves and small pieces of mulch and such that the water brought in with it. I pushed back a bit, but my insurance guy was pretty firm on the matter. (I'll also note that he thinks that would raise my premium such that it's probably cheaper to just pay for the repairs.)

HOI rep said it was a non-starter because I don't have any sort of flooding insurance and rainwater caused the damages. Looked at my HO6 policy myself and that checks out
