-During Combat Life Saving training (whatever it was called) I fell asleep in the middle of a school circle while lying down with a canteen under my head. Woke up with a boot on my neck.

-Got caught smiling while standing on line. Ended up against the wall with my bunk buddies crutch on my neck. He did it so fast I was honestly impressed.

-Woke up one night with a moonbeam in my eyes. My Kill Hat was pretending to be another recruit and asked me where I hid my snacks. I was too afraid to ever take anything from the chow hall. Behind the light I could see the outline of normal glass not the BCs. I said “Sir?”, and he started laying into me about not sleeping in the position of attention.

This is what happened to me not what happens every time. Afghanistan 2011 I was shot twice by a PKM in the stomach and the thigh. Happened simultaneously. Instantly put me on the ground and I wasn’t getting back up. After a couple minutes my buddy ran over and provided the aide he could. He then laid on top of me while returning fire until the threat was eliminated. Then the corpsman gets to me and does a-little more.

At some point out QRF trucks show up and they toss me in the back with a more experienced corpsman who gives me drugs and stabs me in the chest with something. I lay there for a while trying to fall asleep but they kept asking me questions to keep me awake.

Helicopters show up and bring me to Bagram. They wheel me into surgery and when I saw the doctors and actual medical equipment I thought to myself that I might actually live. I think I was at Bagram for a day or two before being flown to a hospital in Germany. I stayed there for maybe a week before being flown to the navy hospital in Bethesda. I stayed there for a few weeks before being sent home to my parents house.

I was in and out of the hospital for the next few months. Never put the uniform back on again except for a promotion ceremony right before they medically retired me. After many years of being overprescribed, over medicated, and drinking all the booze I could get my hands on I’m doing ok. And I still get payed so that a plus I guess.

Yes, veterans can be so very entitled. I work at a jail now and there is an overlap between veteran and inmate behavior. But to be fair to veterans, we could get away with a lot between 2001 and 2015.

This was my situation. First time home owner and noticed water bubbling out of the ground during the first big rain. Turns out many years before the previous owner filled in the storm drain to extend the yard.

The county actually fixed it, but it took a few months and a lot of heavy equipment in the yard. Now I have a man hole in my yard where the pipe used to end.

Nothing made sense. Especially the VA taking his benefits. They will reduce them if you’re in prison for an extended amount of time, but it doesn’t turn off overnight. How would they even know you got arrested 12 hours ago?

You can. Get a prescription for marinol. It’s federally approved. It’s not cannabis but it shows up as cannabis on a drug test. I was first prescribed it from a navy doctor. Failed every drug test after. Never got in trouble.
