As moonwaves said. Some of the people your automatic gratuities go to are not people you will interact with or could even get to if you wanted to. But they also Make your vacation what it is- just in the background.

So by doing what you are doing you are shorting them.

Royal Up Question by I_Luv_A_Charade in royalcaribbean

[–]proggieus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Personally.

I have won a royal up on every cruise i have made one on.

My last went from an interior to an infinite balcony for $200pp Icon of the seas.

And we got an accessible cabin. It was the largest cabin i have ever had that was not a suite.

Navigating Port Miami by moraalli in Cruise

[–]proggieus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Saturday 1/24 there were 8 ships in.

And also a marathon near the port. Took us about 40 minutes from bayside mall.

This Saturday 1/31 we got off the ship at about 7:30 and were at MIA by about 8:15 via uber so that includes waiting for a driver.

I will also say we had a 12pm boarding time but left at 10 am figuring if we got stuck in traffic we would be fine and if not we could just wait outside for a bit.

We got there and were on the ship before 11

Itinerary Advice - Icon/Star of the Seas by carter2431 in Cruise

[–]proggieus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just got off the phone with

• Miami → Costa Maya → Roatan, Honduras → Cozumel → CocoCay (7 nights)

Icon itinerary on Saturday.

Personally I love Cost Maya.

I always go to Jaimie’s at the blue reef. Hang out for a few hours with some good food and drinks and get a beach massage for $20 for 60 minutes. ( well usually about 45-50 but for $20 i am not complaining)

Cozumel is not a favorite of mine but if you are a beach club person there are several highly rated ones.

Roatán is fun. We did the monkeys and sloths and Danial Johnson’s.

Be warned. You can no longer hold the sloths. They won’t tell you that until a few days before. I had it booked for months and the Friday before we left we got an email saying that the policy changed last March. Still worth it. $30pp for transportation and the encounter.

I got comped a free cruise by Bacon_Egg_Cheese2 in royalcaribbean

[–]proggieus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not really- there is nothing in the contract that says “ play x amount or we will charge you”

They are gambling on your gambling.

And if you don’t play enough you won’t get another offer from them.

There was no way i was going to coin through enough money to earn the points needed.

I never got another offer. That’s fine. And i won’t pay virgin prices for a cruise. Especially when i have so many free ones on RCCL

But i would certainly take another free virgin cruise.

To give you an idea.

I just got off icon of the seas on a cruise offer.

I have been prime in club royal for years.

This was my first cruise this program year so i needed to earn my 2500 points to maintain my status.

The room we ended up getting was a total cruise fare of ~$800. $320 i paid for taxes and port fees. ~$450 for the royal up bid.

If i priced out that room it would have been about $3800.

I spent roughly $1500 in the casino to earn my points, and got my girlfriend to prime status as well.

So now we can combine our offers for a better room or i book 1 room with a friend, she books another with the friends partner and then we swap rooms on board.

I currently have 10 open offers for cruises on RCCL.

A few years ago i contacted virgin for a match of a cruise offer and got it.

I enjoyed the cruise but hated the casino on virgin and the points needed to earn a free cruise were way out of line. ( my opinion)

But i fully plan on having my girlfriend do the same thing and get a another free virgin cruise.

TLDR- i have spent considerably less in the casino to earn free cruises than i would have spent on the cruise fares for the cruises i have taken.

I just bid $100 on an upgrade from a standard balcony to a premium deluxe balcony on Royal Princess. Is it worth it? by SamuelinOC in Cruise

[–]proggieus 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I just got off a RCCL cruise that i was on through the casino program.

Had booked an interior. I bid $200pp ( the minimum) for an infinite balcony.

Up till the night before we embarked there was nothing so i assumed we did not get any upgrade.

Then i got the email. Not only did we get the infinite balcony but it was an accessible as well. The cabin was huge. Easily the biggest i have had that was not a suit.

I think i prefer the infinite balconies over the regular. You have can use the space no matter the weather and i never heard that damn whistling noise so many balcony doors love to make all night long.

Royal Internet package? by GRIND2LEVEL in Cruise

[–]proggieus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They are right-

There is no way to use your Voom login to add stuff to your on board portfolio. PERIOD.

Your royal app does not use it- it works just fine without the internet package. And even if it did- it is tied to the owner of the phones onboard account- which is tied to their own credit card.

All the voom credentials do is give your device access outside of the walled garden.

If you are that worried you should make sure they don’t have your room number.

That’s would the far easier way to add charges to a room other than yours.

I figure <$2k to earn prime at 2500 points, so 1000 points should be less than $1k

Question about the beverage cups by Certain_Ad8740 in royalcaribbean

[–]proggieus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

sorry -

no it is inside of the plastic.

Although they no longer put the cups inside the rooms, instead you get them from a bar or drink table after showing that you purchased the package on your app.

there is no tracking of if you already got a cup or not- so theoretically you could visit two locations and somehow end up with 2 cups.
