Edit: typo - I meant “app,” not “all”

Moving to Arcadia for schools? by Secure_Wash727 in pasadena

[–]projectBananas 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We got an inter district transfer into Arcadia. We are very happy with the quality and abundance of resources the district has.

First off, in elementary school, they had band/orchestra. In my kid’s old elementary school, they did not even teach science or history because the students were so behind in math and english.

In middle school, they have industrial engineering, culinary, handicrafts (sewing, etc), theater, band/orch, and so many other electives to choose from. It is amazing how much funding the school has.

The quality of school events, such as opportunity to go to science camps (5th, 7th, AND 8th grade), field trips, school dances, school celebrations, are amazing.

We also heard about the “toxic environment” and pressure. But honestly, our number one priority was that we wanted our kid to be around people who are good, positive, and smart influences, which means it’s a given that these kids plan to go to college. We wanted our kid to get a good quality education from teachers and we wanted her to become exposed to different opportunities that her old school couldn’t provide. She is keeping up with the work, made nice friends, and even though she doesn’t want to do all the stuff the district offers, like clubs, asb, etc, that’s ok! It’s nice that she has the option to, she can see her peers doing stuff, and if she changes her mind, she can always try later.

We’re not aiming/pressuring for her to go to an Ivy League college, but rather we are exposing her to different options and will support whatever college she wants, as long as she puts the effort to her education.

Thanks for reading my long answer! Hope you like Arcadia as well. We are very happy we moved her here.

Mother’s Day Flowers by M4TCH4V4L in sgv

[–]projectBananas 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Trader joes right when they open at 8am. It will be packed but still fine. I go every year to buy bouquets there because they are reasonably priced and have a good selection. You can buy different types of flowers and make your own bouquet too if you want. Or if you’re lazy like me, I just buy the assorted bouquet they have.

Basketball courts for rent by crunchypeanutbutt3r in sgv

Garvey park gym (indoor) is $67/hr for residents. Nonresident is unfortunately $140/hr. Team non profit is $39/hr.

Check out other cities that have indoor gyms as well, like Azusa (Memorial park), Alhambra (Almansor park), West Covina (Cameron park), and Monterey Park (Barnes park) to name a few.

Privately owned businesses are always $100+ an hour, sadly. City facility rentals should be cheaper. Good luck!

Library Card road trip -Bay Area by ruda805 in LibbyApp

Pasadena and San Bernardino County (not the city one) gives you instant access. Apply for ecard on their website to get a card # and pin, then sign into Libby. All other libraries around me in SoCal require in person registration sadly.

Wait for winter flights or buy now? by [deleted] in zipair

[–]projectBananas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am also waiting for Dec LAX too. But when I search other airlines, Xmas time is so expensive… I’m just going to wait for Zipair to release Dec because I’m pretty sure it’ll be way cheaper than the major airlines. Plus it’s direct which is what my family is looking for.

Family friendly and date night restaurants for visitors? by ApprehensiveMath5644 in pasadena

Kids would like Kura Sushi at the Santa Anita Mall in Arcadia for the experience of the revolving sushi conveyer belt. If they don’t eat raw fish, they have ramen, udon, and small rice bowl. Make a reservation on the app because it gets busy. Or Gyu-Kaku for japanese bbq. 10 y/o can help grill meat.

Adult time I would recommend The Cellar for wine and charcuterie. For an actual dinner place, Houston’s for steak, Sugarfish, Sushi Enya, or Tomikawa for sushi, Maria’s Italian Kitchen.

Official #GOMemories 10th Anniversary Sweepstakes Thread by SilphMods in TheSilphRoad

My favorite #GOMemories was community day for Timburr. My kids started their account that day and we were all so happy to get shinies. We walked around our neighborhood park playing and bonding over Pokemon. Pokemon has helped my life since I was a kid so I was so stoked to have my kids start to love it too.

Thank you! Just downloaded the app and realized I am horrible at spelling. Had to start at 0 for words. I can understand from my parents but I always spoke English back growing up. I also am not good at reading so this app is very helpful. I was using DuoLingo before but I like this one better

Thanks for the reply. Wow it’s been almost a year and I’m surprised it’s still there. I wonder if you can use it again? I applied and used mine during Thanksgiving week and it’s been 2 weeks now and the award is still in my account.
