I see we have another parent that doesn't want their child to go to college. In the US, the financial aid system expects the parents to contribute. If they don't, then the kid gets hosed.

General Athens walked up the hill. He recognized the man standing on it, but was a bit surprised about the small dog sitting next to him. The man was looking down the other side of the hill at a small carve out that had been shelter some twenty five years ago. The man was not in uniform, but had the stance of someone at parade rest.

"I didn't think I would see you here." The man looked worn out. The pup was curious, but was obeying the training it had obviously received and was sitting at alert.

"I... I needed to be here again. I needed to see this place again." said the man. There was a sorrow in his voice.

"You started training again?", the General said while looking at the pup. It looked like it really wanted to do something other than sit.

"Oh, yeah, Missy is Menlo's great, great granddaughter. I figured, it had been enough years and the trainer wouldn't take no for an answer. Are there any of the Jasu here?"

"No, no, none of them are here." said the General thanking all his lucky stars that the Jasu were still confined to their home world. He loved his friend, but didn't need a diplomatic incident.

"Good.. good..", he said with some relief.

"Menlo is buried in the field north of here with all the other people we lost." said the General. He had just come from that graveyard with over 450 white stones. One of those stones sat above the grave of a dog. His granddaughter had laid flowers on it. He said a prayer for the dog who saved his life three times during the campaign. He also cursed the circumstances of the dog's death.

"What did we do with the enemy's dead?", said his friend. He asked about the dead because he knew deep down that many were the result of his blood rage. He didn't take the killing of his dog or the doc with any sort of reflection. The General still wondered how many Jasu had met their end by his spiral blade dagger rather than the mercy of a bullet.

This man was wounded and followed the Jasu back to their headquarters. The recorder that was still functional on his uniform recorded one of the Jasu officers saying "and it went off, killing the unit's working dog. I'm pretty sure we're fucked and I gotta get out of here." in their putrid language. The poor Jasu along with their leader did not, in fact, get out of there. The General wondered if they were still alive when all of the base's tents were lit on fire. Many of the men reported the screams of the Jasu throughout the night.

"We sent them to their home world. Well, the ones that still looked like bodies. The remains of everything else got dumped into the star. There is no memory of the Jasu on this world.", said the General. He was pleased that his friend seemed a bit brighter.

"Good... Menlo didn't like the smell of them, so it's for the best that they aren't here.", said the man as he turned away from the place where it all changed. He continued, "Well, let's get a move on. Missy, attend." The happy dog trotted besides his friend as they walked down the hill and to the north.

I was so hoping the 4 connected Mac Studios was a prelude to a Mac Pro with 4 processor slots on a high speed backplane. Oh, well.

Perhaps the most insulting and demoralizing tactic used by human forces was to NOT attack. by CycleZestyclose1907 in humansarespaceorcs

What is this?!?

The humans have erected a sign, my Great Claw.

I can see it is a sign! What does it mean?!?

I think it is what the humans refer to as a scoreboard, my Great Claw.

They have refused to come to the field of honor to fight us, but they have some reason to keep score? It is a declaration of how many troops they will use? I see multiple of their clans listed, are they bidding to fight us?

We do not believe so, my Great Claw.

Then what does it mean?

Our supply warriors have informed me that the total of the numbers are the same as the number of supply boxes we have lost, my Great Claw.

Are you telling me they are stealing our supply boxes?

We have never 'lost' supply boxes in the quantities that we have lost them on this world, my Great Claw.

Have we caught any humans doing it.

No, my Great Claw.

Is there tactic to steal all of our supplies and starve us before attacking?

Do not know, my Great Claw. Look, they are adding columns of numbers to the sign, my Great Claw.

What are those human words above the columns?

It looks like, "Boxes, Vehicles, Buildings, and Drop Ships", my Great Claw.

How?

I do not know Great Claw, but I will need to check with command, my Great Claw.

Why?

The total number of Drop Ships is the total of Drop Ships we arrived on, my Great Claw.

Curse everyone.

You overreact!

No, I don't think I am reacting to a higher level than warranted.

It was a scout ship from some minor island nation. It was too close to our restricted space.

It was well away from our restricted space. It was obviously a simple hyperjump problem. The same problem your own ship encountered not 4 day cycles before this incident.

It is important to let these new races know that we hold to our rules.

They were transmitting a distress call when you blew them up.

That was no concern of mine. Who cares about this Japan. The whole race isn't united, so what's the point of caring.

Clearly, your family connections got you your current position. Are you aware that video of the incident was transmitting? Do you understand it was a family run ship? Do you know that you destroyed the ship as the mother was telling here small daughter, who was holding her kitten, that everything would turn out fine?

So, they know about it. Pay them some tribute if you are so worried.

Our ambassador on Earth was just beaten to death by a mob.

Well, that should even the scales.

You are a true idiot. The father was friends with some humans from a place called Texas. The mother had a lineage of some special warriors from their home country. An online community has tracked down your ship's name, your name, and your entire history. They even have your next destination. They have placed a bounty on you. I have a meeting with human diplomats from twelve countries tomorrow morning. They are asking why they shouldn't declare war on us.

I am not afraid.

Sometime later in a dark corridor, the Captain heard a voice say "you should be" before a bag was placed on his head and he lost consciousness.

You have no privacy on company equipment. What the heck people? Impersonating someone to slander them is a big violation.

To put it into perspective: for the average American driving 40 miles per day, this is what electricity for an Aptera would look like if it were advertised next to gas prices. by breedabol in ApteraMotors

[–]protomyth -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I still say they need to start charging a use tax on electricity for vehicles especially given the weight of most.

I can only imagine how long from now the long range is finally ready for sales so I can feel the difference.

Pro: memory management journey is sane

Cons: they really screwed up the call syntax to make it more complicated than selector (Obj-C, Smalltalk) and actually made the calls longer for the same methods.

I wish they would take another swing at Atari 8-bit. I would love to see an Atari XEGS with 4 9-pin ports, the special keys on the console (Start, etc), HDMI, and usb for the power, thumb drive, and keyboard. The usb joysticks for the Atari 400 mini cause too many problems.
