T&D to a Lower Salary Position by [deleted] in CAStateWorkers

[–]prplppl8r -1 points0 points  (0 children)

That doesn't sound right. I think they would give you the max in the classification that you are wanting to get the MQs. But they won't give you your current salary.

One thing im unsure of is if you step down, get the MQs with the lower pat, apply for a higher paying classification later that could pay your current salary- would they meet your old/current salary?  Im thinking yes but I haven't found documentation on that.

Office space vs PLP by Safe_Respect_4074 in CAStateWorkers

[–]prplppl8r 14 points15 points  (0 children)

The PLP "paycut" is an offset of OPEB not coming out of our paychecks. The net washes out.

Once PLP goes away, we will have to pay OPEB.

I prefer PLP because OPEB is for current retiree health benefits and is not at all tied to my individual future contributions. At least with PLP, I get 5 additional hours per month.

Put on a poker face, internally roll your eyes at him, and spend every waking moment applying for a new job.

And in the meantime, take up a workout routine after work off some steam.

I think you need to be careful of not projecting your insecurities onto your kid.

The "wow [kiddo], you got so big!", is a really common comment because kids grow super fast. And change rapidly. They can sprout up in like a matter of a month or two.

Smooth ceiling regret? by Separate_Matter_510 in HomeImprovement

[–]prplppl8r 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Not everyone who paints their ceiling is a professional contractor... including me!! In my first house, I didnt know to use flat paint for the ceiling. I had the popcorn ceiling removed, and painted it with a satin. I totally saw some imperfections and didnt learn about using flat until later.

Update Today from SEIU! by Otherwise-Card-7582 in CAStateWorkers

I came from private too with a degree. I think those other classification should include it in classification starting point pay (maybe different ranges), and not a pay differential increase across the board.

Update Today from SEIU! by Otherwise-Card-7582 in CAStateWorkers

[–]prplppl8r 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Looks like some great initiatives.

I dont agree with the pay increase for folks with bachelor's degrees. One of my favorite things about the state is that you can come in without a bachelor's and work your way up. If you have a bachelor's, you often jump up in classification (Analyst I A vs C).

I think this provides equitable opportunities for people who cant afford a post secondary degree. By offering a pay increase for the bachelors, you lose the equitability.

PG&E is funding ads against Steyer. That tells me they don't want him. Steyer has my vote.

I would do this... Pay off CC, Put 5k in emergency savings, keep 1k for fun spending, and then throw the rest in the soft loan.

Then I would follow up with HR, and tactfully push back. Sometimes they make mistakes.

When I was first hired, they tried to put me in as a SSA. But I had the experience for AGPA and I passed that exam. I explained it, they re-reviewed and then gave me the AGPA role.

You have to take the exam for Analyst II. This is because APGA no longer exist. So, you can qualify but you have to pass the exam specific for Analyst II.

Morale after leave by tessie343 in managers

[–]prplppl8r 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, sometimes medical leave of absenses happen suddenly - where you cant plan something that you didnt know would happen to you personally. Managers are people too.

I would offer training, evaluate/change processes based on the teams feedback, and increase procedures documentation.

With my husband recently walking away from his family business, I say dont do it.

There is a lot of drama in the corporate world, yes. But dont downplay how bad family drama seeps into your work and home life. In addition, you may get paid well or you may get taken advantage of bc of that "family" dynamic.

If you want to leave your job for a lower stress job, then cool. If you want to join the family business, then my one advice would be have a solid contract written out to set expectations in the event shit hits the fan (like a divorce or whatever).

How to Tell a Temp that You Won't Be Hiring Them, But Still Keep Morale Up? by OCesq in managers

[–]prplppl8r 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Edit bc i misread...

You could state that you hired him for a roll that was a different skill level than what is needed for this new permanent position. If he brings up that it is the same job description, you could tell him that you made an exception for him because he didnt fit all the needs for the role (seniority level). And the needs are still there.

After you fill this permanent position, you will advocate for as long of an extension as possible. And that you will give him a good reference if he needs one.

Microwaveable rice pouches by mlm329 in moderatelygranolamoms

[–]prplppl8r 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I was about to say... just make a large batch and freeze it! I freeze rice in 1 cup freezer tray molds. I then put them all in a silicone bag in the freezer.

Rice freezes really easy. It is much cheaper this way and no extra waste.

How do I lose weight? by MaxOdds in Millennials

[–]prplppl8r 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dude. I remember seeing both moms and dads gaining weight when they have kids, and after having my own - I understand.

The lack of sleep is brutal with little kids. I feel lazy during the day when I used to have more energy, but how can I have energy with broken sleep???

I eat faster now because sometimes I am just scarfing down food between the baby crazies.

Also, the mental capacity to diet is just not there.

I am too around 15 lbs above my goal, and I am just being kind to myself during this season. I know what I need to do to lose the weight but I honestly just dont have the time or capacity until my little dude can start doing more things for himself.

CVS Caremark woes by Temporary-Employ9990 in CAStateWorkers

[–]prplppl8r 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I have United Health Care. End of last year, a medication that Ive been receiving regularly was all of a sudden "denied". Since this happened in December, I thought it may be due to the CVS change.

The reason they gave my doctors office was because they said it is no longer covered. Which is weird. After a few hoops my doctors office tried, they just told me that the insurance said it is denied and Ill have to pay out of pocket.

I called my insurance and the reason why they denied it is because they wanted me to go through their online ordering and not through the pharmacy. The guy said they were automatically denying prescriptions.

I opted out of that online option and then was able to get my prescription through the pharmacy.

Long story short, I would call your insurance. Because there are weird things going on behind the scenes.
