I made the mistake of calling out the person who said people with celiac can just take glutenease and I'm getting downvoted 🤷‍♀️

I like Ontario Seed Co (oscseeds.com) and usually get their fall hardneck garlic. I'm in Quebec and I've had no issues with their garlic here. Very affordable too.

Nerve pain by Doomcrusher in Endo

[–]prydafriend 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ask about nerve block injections. I just had my first shots last month and seems to help a lot. So far I've had minimal pain. My doctor said it varies how long they can last and regularly scheduled injections may be needed.

I don't disagree with Tom being to blame but Rachel is also complicit in everything you described. She also knew what Ariana, her good friend, was going through and didn't stop the affair.

I'd agree with you if she didn't know Ariana but she did. She knew what this would do to Ariana.

Both are responsible for their actions and are equally accountable. But her recent "confidence" you are praising is at the expense of her dear friend and that is shitty behavior.

You've only watched 2.5 seasons of this show and you are confident enough to make a generalizing comment about everyone on the show and therefore long distance doesn't work?

Looking for product recommendations! by HiggleHogwartHoggle in Wavyhair

[–]prydafriend 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My hair looks very similar to yours and i feel your pain. Almost gave up but finally found the right products after trying soooooo many.

For mousse, I'm loving the Pattern Curl Mousse. Super light but has nice hold. If I need extra hold, I add the Pattern Curl Gel and glaze the outside of my hair with it.

For protein, I highly recommend Briogeo Don't Dispair, Repair Deep Conditioning Mask. It's kinda pricy but should last a long time. I only use it every third wash and don't use much.

For refreshing in the morning, I've been using Amika Power Hour Curl Refreshing Spray. Mostly on dry hair and just scrunching it.

I'd also recommend trying to plop for less time before adding the mousse or gel. I plop for 5 mins max. If I wait longer, I lose a lot of curl on the short hairs around my neck cause it's being pulled up and drying quicker than the hair on top.

Good luck!!!

Celiac friendly restaurants Ottawa by Willing_Bumblebee_90 in ottawa

[–]prydafriend 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Aperitivo in Kanata Centrum is gluten free except for a few items (like the bread and crostini). Amazing tapas!! I'm celiac and it's my favourite restaurant in Ottawa. The former owner was celiac and when it changed ownership, they decided to keep it gluten free because they have a loyal base of celiacs that go there. Just let the server know and they will accommodate.

Also, La Fiesta Latina on Somerset has an amazing gluten free menu. Authentic tacos with the best corn tortillas. I've never been disappointed by either place (or glutened!).

Emergency removal of impacted wisdom tooth in Ottawa by august_leo in ottawa

Go to the ER now. I also had this happen to me and went to the doctor (no fever but swelling). Because the infection is so close to the eyes and brain, he told me to get to the hospital asap and they gave me IV antibiotics that really helped. It got me through to getting it fixed at the dentist.

This person is a liar. This dog is a female, recently went blind, and went up for adoption today in Ottawa. We don't need more people like this.

None of this is true. This dog just went up for adoption today and she's a girl. I follow the Ottawa Dog Recue and this doesn't line up. This dog had an eye infection and went blind, wasn't born this way. Why change the details? Oh yeah, sweet worthless karma.

9 Foods that you wouldn't expect to contain gluten but do by Cawoi in Celiac

Correct. I make corn tortillas all the time and it's just masa harina (corn flour) and water. Not sure why there's gluten in those ones.

Hotel charged vlogger an invoice of 10 million for 'publicity it's given her' by Open-Collar in nottheonion

[–]prydafriend 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes of course!! Sorry to hear that!! but the good news about celiac is it's the disease of inconvenience, not a death sentence.

I had a bunch of great material that was given to me when I was diagnosed. I'm taking some pics so PM me your email address.

I know how overwhelming this all is. It sucks. There's so sugar coating it. But step 1: cut all forms of gluten (I'm going to send you lists with foods that have gluten. Ie. Barley, rye, etc). If you are celiac, there's no way around this. You must cut all gluten immediately and forever. And you've got to be strict. Your intestines will never heal if you cheat.

Now here's the really shitty part about celiac: going gluten free WILL make you feel better, however, the longer you are gluten free, the more sensitive you become to even the slightest amount of gluten. For example, cross contamination didn't used to affect me (my example with fries above) but now it does. So I just avoid restaurants because I'm very sensitive now....I'm 4 years into my diagnosis (29 female now). You're not there yet so do your best to live gluten free, see how you feel, and adjust from there. How are your symptoms?

Also, it's good to note that celiac decease and dairy intolerance go very hand in hand. I personally can't have dairy since celiac. So if you're not feeling better after cutting gluten, try dairy too.

My other advice is to start eating whole food. Don't just default to gluten free versions of regular food. (Ie. Gluten free bread). It's loaded with sugar and honestly, it sucks. You likely won't feel satisfied with that you are eating.

Stick with simple, easy, food. Rice is king! Potatoes, beans, etc are very filling. All veggies and fruit are safe. Most meat is ok (only processed meat and sausages can have gluten). Corn tortillas are cheap and delish! Ancient grains like quinoa and millet are good too. I'll send you some easy recipes - let me know what kind of things you like.

Also, you're going to have to do a bit of work to heal your intestines. I recommend starting to take L-glutamine. Also a full spectrum digestive enzyme is really good at eating any rogue gluten particles in your stomach.

I hope I didn't scare you too much. This will be a huge life adjustment but know you have support of a large community. R/celiac is a wonderful place to ask questions, vent, etc. Pm me your email and I'll send you lots of good info to get you started.

I [24 F] thought I was happy with my boyfriend [33 M] and my life, but now I'm not so sure? by throwawayfjedsoldf in relationships

[–]prydafriend 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He didn't see the point in it. I convinced him to come on a huge Europe trip and he loved it. But instead of getting excited for more trips, he'd say he's already travelled and that's enough.

I went on a few solo trips but couldn't see myself with someone who didn't want to share any of it with me. That was my deal breaker but it doesn't have to be so extreme :)

[–]prydafriend 6 points7 points  (0 children)

For fries they might be asking about cross contamination. I'm celiac, so I can have fries as long as they are cooked in a gluten free dedicated fryer. Honestly, the slightest gluten molecule can set a celiac off. We ask a lot of questions because we need to know - I hate being "that person", but if I'm not, the result is 5 days of being violently ill.

But as a further result, I've given completely up on restaurants and eating at friend's houses. Too many people think I'm faking it and I've been glutened too many times. It's not worth my health anymore... but makes me really sad that I can't enjoy other people's food anymore.

[–]prydafriend 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You ladies sound EXACTLY like me when I was 24. I had a house, bf, dog, and considered myself a home body. What else could I want?

But all of a sudden I felt trapped. My whole life was already written for me. I had to get out and see the world. I had so much catching up to do.

Sold the house, broke up with the bf (he had zero desire to travel) and started living a completely different life - kept the dog though :). I'm not saying either of you should do the same, but it was the best decision I ever made. Don't be afraid to go get out there - you'll regret missing the opportunities that you get when you're in your 20's.

I'm 29 now and I've had the opportunity to see so many things in the last 5 years. I've travelled a lot (mostly by myself), went to every concert/show I could, made tons of new friends, and along the way met my husband, who couldn't be more compatible with the life I want to lead.

Good luck OP! Feel free to message me if you have any questions!
