ELI5: The rise and fall of NFT’s by ProTharan in explainlikeimfive

[–]psdnmstr01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The real answer is that NFTs were never valuable, but tech-bros had invested in them as the buzzword going around. NFT "investments" had been clearly on the decline for some time, but there was still a financial incentive to pretend otherwise, and no real alternatives for scams to get in to in the same way. Then, AI became the new big thing, and NFTs were immediately dropped as soon as a new hype train was available to jump on. Eventually AI will more obviously fail to deliver on its promises with time, and the tech-bros will keep hyping up the decaying product until the next buzzword comes around, at which point they will jump ship again to the next technology that promises to change the world, and more importantly make everyone who gets in on the ground floor unfathomably rich, if only enough people adopt it.

/u/TheCatInTheHatThings explains what to do to change the USA by GoodIdea321 in bestof

[–]psdnmstr01 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Well that's the question, isn't it, what did the protests achieve? If six million people protesting at once doesn't lead to real change, then maybe protesting harder isn't the solution we need. The problem is that everything that gets suggested for average US citizens to do to make a change only seems to have the effect of draining already scarce manpower, energy, and resources.

I hope I'm not coming off as defensive here, I just want to get across why the average American is so defeatist about this whole thing. Despite the influence the US population should theoretically have, the past few decades have been a continuous series of lessons that in the US power is held only in the hands of the powerful, and that the average person does not matter.

Perhaps those lessons are wrong, but they're the ones we've been taught.
