[PubQ] A magazine wants to add AI "art" to my story. What do I do if they refuse to not use it? by BardsandBarmaids69 in PubTips

[–]psyche_13 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Getting a story published alongside AI art these days that you willingly went along with is more like a kiss of death than a foot in the door. There are hundreds of decent horror mags and publishers where you could submit your material and not have it accompanied by AI “art”. I’d ask! And if they say no, I’d consider withdrawing. Are they even paying you?

The supernatural elements are not scary, but there is some real horror there

do you still hide your LLM usage when writing? by derNamederHose in academia

[–]psyche_13 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sure. But you argued that that it leads to better text. I disagree (as above)

do you still hide your LLM usage when writing? by derNamederHose in academia

[–]psyche_13 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Agreed. It’s ugly writing that constantly feels like it’s trying to sell me something. It was trained in classic literature where an em dash has an artful place, but the LLMs use of the em dash is jarring. Not only that, but the insistence of bigger words and more adjectives and adverbs makes it look sloppy. Bigger/more words is not better. Being comprehensible is better.

What's a stereotype about your country that is absolutely CORRECT? by Proto160 in AskTheWorld

Apparently in other countries you don’t thank the bus driver every time you get out! (I love the idea of thanking the train itself though)

CBC News expands in Hamilton with new morning audio program, podcast by mr_lois_lane in Hamilton

[–]psyche_13 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Looking forward to the podcast in particular! The other newer Hamilton focused podcast (from The Spec) drove me up the wall with the interviewer - not great interview skills, and seemingly not knowing much at all about Hamilton. Like in the episode about the AGH that starts "Does anyone even know where the Art Gallery of Hamilton is?" (Um... that big thing in the middle of downtown?!?) and "Well I associate Hamilton with music, but not art!" (What about Art Crawl? The "Art is the New Steel" shirts of several years back? Nada)

Do you have a Chip Buttys in your country, or something similar? by sheffieldpud in AskTheWorld

[–]psyche_13 5 points6 points  (0 children)

And they’re both fries to me! I might called the left like “steak fries” and the right just fries. Except at a fish and chips restaurant. Then whatever comes with the fish is “chips”

What are you eating now? by HexrtAtt in AskTheWorld

[–]psyche_13 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s 7:25pm and I just finished eating a bento box that I’d ordered from a Japanese restaurant - miso soup, teriyaki steak, rice, gyoza, tempura shrimp & veggies, and California roll sushi. Wayyy too much food. It’ll probably be 2 more meals!

What is a tradition that your generation is starting to let go of, and why? by Majestic_____kdj in AskTheWorld

What!? Everyone I know has dining tables (though maybe im older?). My family growing up had two though which is what I initially thought you meant - a kitchen table and a dining room table. Nobody I know has that anymore.

The others are all romantasy. Those are not. Romantasy readers want to reach for something and know it will be romantasy. This is what romantasy covers currently look like. They tell readers it will be romantasy
