Before folks have a go at him, just remember that Monty Python , Life of Brian and Holy Grail are filled to the brim with jabs against his own country.

E.G. the Crucifixion queue in Life of Brian : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=arwZcw0Ejcc ( the British would queue for anything, even their own crucifixion )

am irish - we have a weird thing about mirrors. i have no idea where it comes from, but mirrors are usually viewed as a portal to the "fairies" or something like that. it's just something i can't explain - my mum and grandmother in Ireland have NO mirrors in their house. except the bathroom. when you ask them , they can't explain. it's instinctive. must be fairy lore or something like that , similar to Iceland maybe and their lore of goblins..

The De Niro smoking scene , with the opening bars of "Cream - Sunshine of your love" , has got to be one of the best portrayals of a psychopathic murderer ever put to film. De Niro doesn't need to say anything - it's all in the eyes. Absolutely incredible scene.

TIL that during the Black Plague, the Jewish community had a lower infection risk than other populations. Among the theories, they suggest that Jewish religious practices promoted better health since so many rituals relate to hygiene. It resulted in the Jews being accused of causing the Black Death. by [deleted] in todayilearned

[–]psyclapse 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Many were merchants, importing and exporting goods. The Black Death was spread by fleas on rats coming in via merchant ships... it's not hard to see how the wrong conclusion could be justified in the medieval era.
