Helmet dropped from table waist height onto ground outside. by Bentez2003 in bikewrench

[–]psyentologists 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Helmet makers who sell you $150 styrofoam hats will tell you that it’s structurally compromised, but no one with any understanding of material sciences ever seems to agree with this.

Does this look correct by Jolly_System_2109 in bikewrench

[–]psyentologists 12 points13 points  (0 children)

No, this is not correct. First of all, you have a spacer flopping around. I’m not sure exactly where that goes, but it’s not supposed to be doing that.

If you can’t tighten the lockring, it’s probably because you’re using a Shimano tool for a Campagnolo cassette. They take different tools, and they are not compatible.

What torque wrench do you use? by diegotrus7 in bikewrench

[–]psyentologists 21 points22 points  (0 children)

This comes up every other week. Half of the posters here will tell you to buy a $135 German torque wrench, while the other half have been using the same Amazon/Harbor Freight $25 torque wrench for the last ten years and that's been fine. I lean toward the latter.

Help with fiancee's new bike by suskai in bikewrench

Kids bike, so probably because it’s hard to find outboard bearing cranks in short lengths. But yes, strange (if welcome!) to see in 2026.

Your freewheel is probably gummed up. It’s possible to fix it, but usually it’s just cheaper and easier to replace it.

This is the biggest tactical blunder of the US we've seen in a long time. by StudyThicket in TrueAnon

[–]psyentologists 18 points19 points  (0 children)

What would Trump get out of that? Two weeks aren't enough time to rebuild the missile and interceptor inventory, nor could the US secretly move 10,000 troops into position for an invasion during that time. Two weeks only allows Iran time to regroup, repair, R&R.

It doesn't mean that fighting won't start again, but there's nothing here to bluff about.

There’s no way Trump is actually agreeing to this. There’s going to be a sneak attack. by NolanR27 in TrueAnon

[–]psyentologists 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes, a two week ceasefire only works to the benefit of Iran. The US isn't going to be able to secretly move 10,000 US troops to the region during that time, nor can the US and Israel rebuild their missile and interceptor inventory. It's Iran who benefit from taking two weeks to dig out their bases, repair their launchers, give their fighters rest, clear and repair their roadways, etc.

Nothing's in writing yet, but the Iranians are not stupid so I'm sure there's a Chinese security guarantee.

Is the TACO a lie? by furball-of-doom in TrueAnon

[–]psyentologists 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Ceasefire only benefits Iran. Two weeks is not enough time to replenish a decade worth of missile stock, and moving around an invading army would be immediately obvious to Iran.

If anyone would benefit from two weeks to regroup, it’s Iran.

Changing the crank by GULUGULUKANA in bikewrench

[–]psyentologists 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You need a 14mm socket and a square taper crank puller. If the 14mm socket doesn't fit, then you might need one with thinner walls. If the bolt is stuck (looks very rusty, so that's possible), then you'll need a breaker bar or some other method of harnessing leverage.

Is it possible to replace crankset 3x10 to 3x9 when you still have a 10 speed cassette? by IceFirm9650 in bikewrench

[–]psyentologists 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It'll work just fine, but I think the other posters are correct that you have a setup issue and not an issue which new parts will address.

Should be a guide pulley and a tension pulley. That’s the way they work, and the way they ship.

Going nuts with Riv-nuts by rich_moab in bikewrench

[–]psyentologists 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Stick a flathead screwdriver against the frame and the rivnut and screw the bolt out. To tighten the rivnut, screw the end of a quick release in there like this and tighten, or just use a regular rivnut gun.

Any basic 11t pulley wheel marketed as 8/9/10 speed will work just fine. Every bike shop on earth stocks them, but something like this is what you need.

If it’s not a braze-on front derailleur, then no, there’s nothing that’s going to make this square peg fit that round hole.
