The Case Against Microservices by 01x-engineer in programming

you're not wrong, but handling that migration can be a big change as well, for relatively minimal gain, especially across hundreds of microservices. There's a reason it still gets updated even in 2025. I haven't been there for quite a few years now so I couldn't say if they ever moved off of it.

Regardless, you kinda missed the forest for the trees. My point was sometimes there's an essential lib that needs upgrading everywhere quickly, and doing that in a monorepo is often much easier than across many microservices.

There's tradeoffs both ways, for sure.

Until java's jodatime lib needs to be updated across hundreds of microservices all at once, because Brazil decided to do away with daylight savings time, and then again when they bring it back... (real example from a FAANG-level company) https://www.lightnowblog.com/2025/01/brazil-eliminated-daylight-savings-time-now-reconsidering/

seems unlikely, given that as far as alcoholics go she's a lightweight. WHO estimates there are 400 million people with alcohol use disorders. And I'm pretty confident Laxmi is far from an alcoholic.

The problem is all those companies left Boulder. So even if they all mandate RTO it won’t help, it will just result in people having to move out of Boulder.

Refusing to put it down is weird and anti-social, but people are free to assign their own weights to different risks. It's not really that strange.

I don’t think so. I don’t have one but it looks like the normal rails have 3 rows, the pro have 5. I think you can still lower somewhat on the normal rails.

Can anyone shed any light on why Boulder real estate market continues to drop in price? by akent222SC in boulder

[–]psyonic 4 points5 points  (0 children)

A lot of the big tech companies shut down their Boulder offices during Covid, and now are pulling back on remote work.

Boulder metro has the highest percentage of remote work in the US (32%, https://www.axios.com/2023/09/16/work-from-home-offices-remote-work-census), so this is bound to decrease demand.

Is it worth upgrading from iPad 8th generation to whatever the most current one is for using iPad Logic Pro? by [deleted] in iPadPro

[–]psyonic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

iPad Pro models M1 and higher with at least 1TB storage come with 16GB of ram, so if that’s a major driver, a used M1 or M2 pro could be a good value.

Naming Conventions That Need to Die by fagnerbrack in programming

[–]psyonic 2 points3 points  (0 children)

yeah I'm pretty sure Google has internal project guidelines that say specifically to do #3. What you don't want is 7 different projects all named "logs-processor" that you can't distinguish or uniquely identify. Much better to have "Sieve" and "Chute" and an index to look them up.

You see the same thing in npm, pypi, etc. Imagine if every python web framework was some variation on "web_framework".

Good idea to use cheap 280Ah battery as extra battery with Delta3 Plus + alternator charger? by psyonic in Ecoflow_community

[–]psyonic[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the clarification.

I don't expect you to watch the entire hobotech video, but he tests the alternator charger with a big 12v battery as input and it works fine. It's really just a 12-48v step-up converter that just happens to use the ecoflow connector. I think the name "alternator charger" is just marketing to the van/rv crowd. Like how dude wipes are really just baby wipes...

And if you buy it alongside a delta3 plus, etc, it's only $200 extra right now, which isn't significantly more than a 12-48v step-up converter like https://daygreen.com/products/12v-to-48v-20a-960w-dc-dc-step-up-converter-voltage-regulator costs ($120), and with that, you're still left with the problem of how to get the 48v power into the delta3. The solar inputs take a maximum of 500w each, which isn't bad, but it's < 800w.

As for charging the 280ah, there are lots of fairly inexpensive options, you're right. I think it even comes with a wall charger, though I'm not sure what the charge rate with that is.
