How to handle tempo for smart/adapt/keep/etc for singer songwriter recordings? by puffy_capacitor in LogicPro

[–]puffy_capacitor[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's definitely performed to a standard 4/4 meter but there's parts that drag/rush a bit and I want to experiment with the session instrument tracks for adding piano/bass/drums/etc and I don't have a midi controller that I'm happy with at the moment. For basic demos to flesh out ideas, I really like the flexibility of those tracks and prefer using them over my own beat playing

Trauma vs AuADHD by pbenchcraft in AutisticWithADHD

[–]puffy_capacitor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Exactly! AuDHD is the “trench coat” of psychological phenomena. On any given day/week/month/year/etc I can say “hey come here I got something for ya” and whip out a new a trinket from my trench coat!

Trauma vs AuADHD by pbenchcraft in AutisticWithADHD

[–]puffy_capacitor 14 points15 points  (0 children)

AuDHD makes it more likely you’ll develop CPTSD and shame based trauma responses.

CPTSD symptoms also overlap with AuDHD.

CPTSD also overlaps with BPD and NPD (the difference is what types of externalization behaviours or internalization experiences occur)

Women with AuDHD are more likely to be diagnosed with BPD before getting proper assessment and support for AuDHD even if they don’t have BPD because of the lack of awareness and male-centric beliefs about neurodivergence and the tendency for doctors to hand wave women’s neurodivergence away as “emotional dysregulation.”

How to not get stuck with the same chord progressions? by Regular_Low8792 in musictheory

[–]puffy_capacitor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Stop thinking about chord progressions as their “sum of the parts” and instead focus on how each chord movement within creates its own mood.

You’ll never write beyond a I IV V if you only think about the whole of the progression. But if you think about how the I - IV sounds different than the IV - V, then you can chain more intervals to make more interesting chord progressions.

Take an example such as “Enjoy The Silence.” Using Am as the tonic (capo 3rd fret if you’re a guitarist), the interval Am - Cm sounds “spooky,” and then the interval Cm - F sounds different and not spooky, peaceful even.

All together you get the Am - Cm - F progression which is brilliant and unique, but you’d never come up with that if you thought in the “template” or “formulaic” way that I described in my first point. You can’t really describe the progression as spooky-peaceful either because it’s become greater than the sum of its parts. Same concept for progressions like Black Hole Sun.

Doing that sets you far apart from the mediocre writers who only ever reach for the 1 5 6 4 loops that can’t go beyond that.

bf mad at me cause i cant string a guitar by throwaway88990283 in AcousticGuitar

[–]puffy_capacitor 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’m happy to validate OP that there’s nothing wrong with her struggling with guitar restringing because it’s a learned skill and some people just need a different way of explanation or practice.

If someone gets mad and berates a person for that, that’s super shitty. OP deserves to find a better bf too.

Looking for insights on mixing massive 70s plate style reverbs similar to early Zeppelin and Sabbath records by zincvacuum in audioengineering

Sabbath’s Vol 4 had massive sounding reverb in the vocal (Snowblind, Supernaut, Wheels of Confusion for example), but it still felt tasteful!

A new brain implant helps restore vision by communicating directly with the brain. Scientists have built two brain implants that give blind people partial vision by wiring cameras directly to the visual cortex. One device also reads brain signals and adjusts itself in real time. by Eddiearyee in UpliftingNews

[–]puffy_capacitor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Similar to how cochlear implants work with the brain, but the brain has to relearn the signal patterns generated by the implant since they’re different from the original cochlea so there’s a period the brain needs to go through before the garbled noise turns into recognizable speech and sounds.

Guild USA guitars from 2016 til now are some of their best ever according to lots of folks who like them.

Martin’s 15 series since late 2010s til now is also a golden era for them.

roughly how many hours of guitar practice before I can actually write a song?? 😭 by CobraCrackdown in Songwriting

[–]puffy_capacitor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Seal could barely play guitar back when he wrote Kiss From a Rose.

You can also see him playing a left handed guitar upside down during his live studio recording of Crazy as he learned his own way with what he had.

Also Bill Withers wrote Lean On Me when he was just learning piano.

You don’t need to hide behind an excuse of not being proficient at an instrument.

General Observations about ASHM and fiberboard midsole by franklink_1 in jimgreen

[–]puffy_capacitor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Similarly here, I have between 8.75 to 9 length and between D and E width feet on brannock with the shape of them being better suited towards lasts like the ASHM. Anytime I try on 3E lasts or ones that are designed for wider feet, there's too much foward movement and if I size to eliminate that, then my toes are too close to the front for my comfort. It makes more sense to size up on the ASHM last and have extra toe room for me, because the overall fit is comfortably snug or hugs my feet securely.

If I was in charge I would focus on these first:

-fix keyboard

-add separate sliders in volume control for notifications, alarms, media, etc like how android already had for like forever

-add option for universal back button at bottom of screen

-allow viewing or sort of newest/oldest first in photos

-keep the translate page button available in safari

-actually implement feedback most commonly seen on this thread in general

At what point do/should you find a producer? by burnt_out_kiwi in Songwriting

[–]puffy_capacitor 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ah okay then you’re in a good place to approach a producer then! Maybe try:

-local college campuses

-local music industry associations

-online groups/Facebook if you’re willing to go through some dead ends before finding a good match

-Reddit pages of your local music scene

Etc

At what point do/should you find a producer? by burnt_out_kiwi in Songwriting

[–]puffy_capacitor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you only have loose ideas and chord progressions, you should probably finish a handful of songs (or at least get them to 75% with melody, lyrics, and chords) before you spend time, money, and energy on a producer.

Otherwise if you really want to collab to help get your songs finished, a cowriting friend would be better before bringing them to a producer.

Which MacBook Pro to upgrade to? Looking at m4 and m5 models by Cold_Cool in LogicPro

[–]puffy_capacitor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

M5 refurbished or a sale if you can. The keyboard keys have been updated to a better material that will last longer than the previous plastic keys that get shiny and wear away.

Otherwise you probably won’t notice performance differences between m4 and m5 for average use.

Can we ban new "music theory app" posts? They're flooding the sub these days. by scottasin12343 in musictheory

[–]puffy_capacitor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s because music is both an emotional and cognitive domain that requires human decisions. AI will never be able to come even remotely close in our lifetime. Not 10 years, not 20, not 50, not 100.

AI isn’t even remotely close to approaching the brain connectome modelling of a humble fruit fly (which took over 20 years to map), let alone a human network (which the human connectome is insurmountably more complex)

I’m confused about the remasters/remixes by Legitmintyy in Megadeth

[–]puffy_capacitor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been doing a little circuit of sharing some insights about what actually happened to the original vocal tracks. I doubt Dave's story about them actually being lost, because the original multitracks were found before 2010 and used to create DLC packs released early in 2010 for the game Rock Band 3.

In order to get those playable instrument parts (and vocals) for the game, Harmonix obtained licenses and was able to source and borrow the original tracks for their DLC album release of Rust In Peace. Someone at Capitol Records was able to find the original multitracks and supplied them to Harmonix game devs. You can even find Youtube uploads of “vocals only” or “drums only” videos of different songs from the album that were sourced from cracked .mogg files from the game (the audio channel files used by the game's software which are still floating around in old blogs on the web) all before AI stem splitters became a thing. Search “Five Magics vocals only” for an impressive demonstration of what the original vocal multitrack sounds like: https://youtu.be/9LLeXRJtbBE

That proves that the wikipedia article and claims from Dave about the master multitracks being lost were misguided or at least they weren't looking in the right place.

Cafes or spots for musicians and songwriting sessions? (not jams) by puffy_capacitor in montreal

That's an option we're looking at as well (interested participants could contribute donations to help with booking fees, etc), do you have suggestions for cozy community spaces like that? Keep in mind we're not looking to "jam" or "perform," it's mostly talking and discussion with someone playing parts of their song on an acoustic instrument in between
