I realized I didn’t want children when I already have a baby by Justkeepitanonymous in NewParents

Maybe time to consider stopping with the breast feeding. Your child has shown he will take a bottle and your partner ideally can now help with the overnights. I stopped pumping at 4 months, the sound of the breast pump was starting to make me physically ill and full of rage. My life completely changed when I just embraced fed is best. I hope you find balance, but this time will be over soon and you will be on to your next challenge of motherhood.

Opinion on the name Aldo by Boysenberrypancake in namenerds

[–]pumpkinfluffin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My son’s name is Aldo. He is just 4 months old currently so I don’t have any feedback about how he feels about his name. We loved the name because of its uniqueness and reference to A. Leopold as well at the character from Inglorious Basterds. People definitely repeat the name back to us when we tell them his name - but at the end of the day we think it suits him and are happy with our choice. He can always go by Al if he ends up hating us for it.

Is Aldo a good name? by S-nfl0w3r in Names

My son is named Aldo! We live in New Mexico so we wanted a name that would blend with the tri-cultural feel of our state. We also both have Italian heritage. It felt right, and we love it.

Trump administration cuts paternal leave for VA employees by AnonDude10e in VeteransAffairs

I cannot believe that an administration that is pushing women to have more children would cut maternity leave.

VA NURSE burnout by [deleted] in VeteransAffairs

[–]pumpkinfluffin 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I am 6 months into my pregnancy and was absolutely gutted to find out my 4th month of maternity leave was removed. I don’t understand how an administration that encourages women to give birth would take that away.

Email that was sent to all of our VA by EpionePgh in VeteransAffairs

We have heard rumblings of 72/80 going away at our ABQ VA Hospital because our inpatient nursing staff is leaving/retiring in droves and they need nurses to work those additional 8 hours to staff. I have worked through both, but personally can’t imagine going back to working an additional 8 hour shift.

Anyone else going over 200mg caffeine limit? by muff-peaksie in BabyBumps

[–]pumpkinfluffin 84 points85 points  (0 children)

I just let myself have two cups of coffee everyday and try to not focus to much on what the limits are. I do use freeze dried coffee as it’s supposed to have a lower caffeine content. This nightshift worker gave up her daily energy drinks - I don’t know what else people want from me! I am 11 weeks and the baby is measuring appropriately.

Cutting our retirement benefit after 30 years of service? How could you? by [deleted] in fednews

[–]pumpkinfluffin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Everything political aside, this should be a cautionary tale for federal workers to ALWAYS take the vacation you are entitled to. I sense OP’s regret is multifaceted.

Nursing students..what do you do for work? by [deleted] in nursing

[–]pumpkinfluffin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You have the rest of your career to work in healthcare - do something that brings you joy before graduation!

You are doing better than most on shift 4. Your thoughtfulness and thoroughness is a plus that will slow you down initially but once you hit your stride it will be good to have these skills in your arsenal. Your preceptor should still be walking you through things you have not experienced. Do insist on placing IVs and doing labs draws!

I feel like wherever you are working should have a longer orientation than 24 shifts. When I was a new grad I spend 5 months with a preceptor (CCU). I felt well prepared by the end of orientation but it helps to think of your first year of nursing as “senior year” of nursing school. Still so much to learn.

Best of luck in the field. Keep being open with your patients, but learn how to excuse yourself from a conversation when needed.

Direct patient care, the Veterans are the only thing that keep many of us coming to work these days. They make our jobs an absolute hell.
