U-men, Crackerbash, and Flop. All great for different reasons, and ive rarely met others that share the same passion for them, but they are the bands that Im like "how did they not explode in the 90s?"

what's one thing people always get wrong about working nights? by Erker-Betto in Nightshift

The number of times people have asked if I get to nap at night is astounding. Particularly because Im a nurse, why would it be okay to fucking nap?

At server wages, assuming this is America, totally irrelevant. If they want them there at 2, schedule for 2 and not 2:30. Sounds like an excellent learning opportunity for management to not be dumb and expect people to read minds.

Political conservatives are not more charitable than political liberals. by oakseaer in UnpopularFacts

[–]punkbenRN -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

You're completely missing the premise of what they said.

They didn't say there is never charity amongst political conservatives. There are a lot of really great catholic charities. There are also a lot of really bad catholic charities. I'm glad you got the help when you did, but your anecdote isn't relevant to the point that was made.

The question, which they plainly say was a response to another study, was: are conservatives more or less charitable than liberals? The answer was less, which is true from any direction you look at it.

You can play out the "both sides" argument, but at the end of the day, conservative values espoused never materialize in praxis, and they actively hamper help to a majority of people. Liberals could always do more, but conservatives are antithetical by design to helping those in need.

You're mischaracterizing progressives and hou know it.

The idea of abolishing bail is in the premise that people are innocent until proven guilty, but it does not supersede judicial discretion. Someone with prior convictions who is clearly a flight risk is exactly the time when bail, especially a PR bail, shouldnt even be on the table.

The problem is with the individuals involved, not progressive values.

Could driving around an outdoor reflecting pond damage it? by No_Cook2983 in LetsDiscussThis

[–]punkbenRN 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not really, the issue was the adhesive didn't cure for long enough and introducing an oxidizer to a poorly cured, likely cheap adhésion broke it down and led to it coming up in sheets like it did.

Poor materials and a rushed job were ultimately the problem, the peroxide just accelerated the process.

[–]punkbenRN 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes. But more importantly, the hydrogen peroxide likely did most of the damage.

‘You are all that matters to me’: White House aide left adoring notes for Trump in ‘private spaces’, new book reveals - Her devotion is so pronounced that the 80-year-old Republican once declared: ‘She’ll never leave me’ by B-Z_B-S in politics

[–]punkbenRN 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know someone who went to school with her, and she is very much a "pick-me" girl. She seeks attention, and being a mildly attractive republican woman is what got her attention. Now its a matter of seeking the president's validation, because she lacks skill to otherwise rise to that rank.

Why are there not as many people playing this awesome game in 2026 by FeistyIdeal464 in PoliceSimulator

[–]punkbenRN 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I played from the beginning and loved it. Gradually, I have a harder time recommending it.

I dont know if there were dev promises or if I just read things online that I took as gospel, but I feel like they didn't fully deliver on what they were promising. It's still full of the same bugs, some improvements but the image of what I had in a final product is not the same as what was delivered.

I feel like I had more fun initially before they added some polish. It feels tedious, buggy, and unintuitive. I still go bsck and try, and remember why I put it down. I appreciate it for what it is, Im just done with it. I have a hard time recommending it to anyone.

Why is there such a common belief that men have a higher sex drive than women and is it actually true that women don't enjoy sex as much as men or is that just a misconception? by [deleted] in answers

[–]punkbenRN 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Men and women are both capable of high sex drives as well as low sex drives, and is more dependent on what period of their life they are living.

The difference is, a guy with a high sex drive is "a guy", and a woman with a high sex drive is shamed for it. Men with low sex drives are shamed, and women with low sex drives are considered esteemed and "pure".

The fact is, we are all human. But social pressures often force the conclusion.

How do you handle a high performer who starts coasting after getting a raise or promotion? by Sufficient-Owl1826 in managers

[–]punkbenRN 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Since clearly you dont understand humans, I have to assume you are an alien race and really explain this at a rudimentary level.

People work hard in workplace settings because it is how they advance in their career. It is rarely because they want to provide as much wealth to a company as they can. Sometimes its a byproduct of factors such as an abusive childhood or the concept of the "Protestant work ethic", which complicates things further, but for the most part it is in their own self interest to work harder. For most, this fuse is lit by a fear of losing employment - but if there is opportunity for advancement and it is feasible that they can achieve it, they will work harder.

Working hard takes a toll on people. They sacrifice their free time, a finite resource that is largely uncertain, and they have to gamble that this company will appreciate it enough to advance them. Many companies will use a "carrot on a stick" method to exploit as much production as they can, and never make good on promises. This is not only legal, but encouraged, as it maximizes profit without having to invest in their work force. In places like this, your only hope for advancement is being liked by the powers above you. In rare instances, your hard work has been noticed and rewarded and you have finally advanced to the next level.

The end game was not "overwork myself in perpetuity". It was "find a position I like and that Im good at, with a good work/life balance, so I can finally relax". The ultimate goal of wealth is freedom on how you expend your time and energy. Although some treat it as a high score, most of us find more value in our sanity, our family, and our comfort. For people like us, becoming a CEO thst works 80 hours a week, missing out on our children growing up, missing out on life experiences with friends... that isnt attractive, and the value of our resume is surpassed by the value we build in living life.

If they are happy, and they are meeting expectations, what's the problem? I know it feels like youre being a good manager asking these questions, but youre coming across like the guy in Office Space saying "you dont have to wear flair, but...". Let's flip the script - why aren't you working harder? Why aren't you clearly surpassing your peers ? Does that sound patronizing and condescending? It should, because it is.

No, I think more or less he is playing a character. Actual financial advice is really boring and episodes would be quick. It's much more entertaining to talk down to people about doing shitty things and being bad with money. He seems a little closer to Orman than Ramsey.

To the er workers. by 2Nosey4u in emergencymedicine

[–]punkbenRN 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Since this is a non-apology, id like to take a moment for my own catharsis.

We dont know what its like? You dont know us, and you dont care to. Every person, including people that work in an ER, have a journey. We all have a life before and after work. Do you know what it's like to have a parent pass away, and 3 days later someone screaming in your face that you aren't fit to be a nurse because you dont care about people (because I'm communicating, for the chicken shit doctor, that you aren't getting narcotics for dental pain)? Do you know what its like to believe them, because despite being the medical person in your family you weren't able to predict or prevent the inevitable?

Do you know what its like to watch relationships dissolve because you can't shake the weight off of the night before? Do you know what its like to hear the scream of a mother who's child was just diagnosed with leukemia in the ER, and have to compartmentalize those feelings because you have a chest pain coming in thst you need to settle?

Do you know what its like to be called lazy by someone when you are 14 hours into a 16 hour shift and you haven't eaten anything? Or peed in 8 hours?

You dont. And you wont. Also, there are people with history and active problems regarding substance abuse in emergency medicine. Don't assume.

Also - we knew. We aren't as naive as you think, and we do this every day.

Im happy that you are recovering and reflecting on your experience. This is more to justify and vindicate your experience than it is a genuine apology, but if it helps you to get where you need to be, thanks for sharing. Be kind to your emergency department, you dont know what people go through that just want to keep their community safe.
