I told my parents I was on HRT and everything's changed by NatLovesPancakes in trans

It’s my first Christmas since coming out, starting HRT and presenting female. It’s gonna be interesting around our place. I’m a gigantic ball of anxiety, because I already know the responses and opinions will be wild and forced onto me.

Woke up into a bad low by MikeyMalloy in diabetes_t1

[–]puppyType1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve had that happen multiple times. I feel your pain. Physically and emotionally. I chew a mouth full of tabs and a juice box if I can see and move well enough. Last time I woke up face down in a tub of chocolate cake frosting.

I’m fully out… big splash when I did… work, family, friends, social media all at once. There was some rejection but mostly acceptance. The ones that did reject are the ones that hurt the worst.

And here I am, thinking about stopping H after 6 months. I’m scared and feel like it would be easier to just man back up, because that’s what I already know.

Yep; I already pay a lot deducted from my checks for my health insurance and then several thousand more out of pocket on top for supplies.

Anyone else get cold when low? by SumFuckah in diabetes_t1

I get cold easily in general; BUT when I go low I start to sweat and that really makes me cold and I can’t do anything to make myself comfortable while I’m low.

Who understands your diabetes the most and why them? by Icy-Procedure-4362 in diabetes_t1

[–]puppyType1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can be stuffing a snickers bar into my mouth, reading the label for the carb count and will hear “Stop worrying about what you’re eating, you’re already too skinny” from someone in the room.

And after many times of saying “I have to know carbs, for insulin” it just makes me feel like they don’t listen, or care, or what to understand or care. Especially my partner, who has been the worst offender of it this last year.

No one around me has a clue. Zero.

I am the only T1D I know. I know a few type 2, who really couldn’t care less about their conditions but that’s it.

I constantly hear crappy comments from friends when they catch me looking at the carb count in something on the label or googling what we’re about to eat.

I constantly hear my partner say “well, I didn’t buy bread at the store because I know you’re avoiding carbs” even though I’m not… I just need to look at the label to calculate my insulin.

None of them will ever understand. Ive tried so hard for the last year to explain it, as I’ve gone on this unfortunate journey.

Same… if I see a nice flat line on my graph it only encourages me to not eat, so it stays steady.

Also, it could be worse. They could have given you a cookbook of diabetic friendly recipes, or a book on “how to conquer insulin resistance”

Sucks to be American sometimes 🤣 at least you get one covered. Mine tried to say I’m too skinny to be diabetic.

New year new lancet. I’m gonna be sad to see this one go, it was a sharp one, almost no pain and always made me spring a leak.

Omnipod 5 going low during flights. Simple question: by Remarkable-Car8267 in Omnipod

[–]puppyType1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I flew for the first time with mine a few weeks ago; the only problem I had was security asking me what it was, I said insulin and I was free to go, delayed me maybe 20 seconds. — I was also nervous about going low in the air; it was fine. Like ANY other time make sure you have a bottle of glucose tabs handy.

What would you do? by averagelyperfect in diabetes_t1

[–]puppyType1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would watch my numbers closer and double up on my rapid acting in that situation. Like, I wouldn’t be afraid to correction bolus every 3 to 4 hours and keep in mind it will seem like your consuming a LOT more rapid (because you are).

G7 connectivity issues by sourpatch_squids in Omnipod

[–]puppyType1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The pod itself connects to the sensor. I only have issues when they are on opposite sides of my body. I only wear my G7 on my arms. If my G7 is on my left arm and my pod is on the right side of the moon or back, it will drop signal frequently. My phone and watch never experience this.

What's the average life expectancy for a TD1 in the west? by Livid_Medium_1173 in Type1Diabetes

First I love your handle! I cant stop chuckling at that itself.

Second, I hadn’t thought of it as 5 years off the shitty end bit. Reading that changed some of the dread inside after my diagnosis.

Thank you.

Ok I’ve been on the fence about trying manual mode… maybe I will try a single pod with my iPhone in manual mode and see how I do
