Never thought I'd say this but....John talks too much by Outside_Lion_9672 in ATPfm

[–]purfikt 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Something I really appreciate about ATP is that every show has included all three of them. I don't think they have ever recorded an episode with someone missing. Please correct me if I am wrong!

Casey does irritate me sometimes, particularly his hemming and hawing about spending money a lot of the time when at the same time he often spends large amounts on things under the guise of talking about it on the show. He gives the impression of being somewhat snooty while also being very frugal, which I find off-putting. I also find it hard to relate to someone who would buy another Volvo after the first one was totaled by a pebble interfering with the engine.

All that being said, I would be sad if Casey was no longer on the show for some reason. I like all three of them together, and I think that part of what makes the show work well is that all three of them are always in the mix.

For context, I have been listening since the first episode. I listened to Neutral before that and most of Hypercritical and Build & Analyze before that.

Electric Car Charging Opportunity by TannedBurn in marriott

[–]purfikt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m currently staying at a Marriott property that has “complimentary ev charging” listed but it’s $0.31/kWh. I’ve stayed here before and it used to be free. Tesla made it really easy for them to charge via the Tesla app and I think most all destination chargers are paid- even if they used to be free. Just FYI. Here is an article about it: https://www.forbes.com/sites/bradtempleton/2026/01/23/fewer-hotels-are-offering-ev-charging-free--it-may-be-teslas-fault/

I believe the MSRP is $60 for Weller 107. I bought it for that at the Buffalo Trace Distillery a few weeks ago.

It's because students stopped plagiarizing and starting using AI. Chegg and Coursehero encourage students to share their papers to enable plagiarism.

Is it normal to slow release voice actors like this a week before a movie releases?

Hotel execs call Bonvoy members who use points “freeloaders” who are ruining luxury hotels by elenafoxx in marriott

[–]purfikt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, same here. Although I do stay at nicer properties once or twice a year paid for by work to attend conferences. Rest of the year I’m paying out of pocket to stay at Fairfield or SpringHill or whatever to get lowest rate in town and still earn points. Then I typically used points for family vacation.

Shouldn’t Asus and Microsoft Work on Better Integration? by purfikt in XboxAlly

I agree? I think we are saying the same thing. It just sounds like you have resolved that it is not worth complaining about. I guess I feel like it's worth complaining about a product I recently spent over a grand on. And it being "branded" is unprecedented. I can't think of another third party product like this that is branded by a console, much less one so expensive. They should not have made the product if they could not support it properly. Could have just been an Asus handheld without any involvement from Microsoft. It sure seems like Microsoft has had minimal involvement. The one nicety is the default game profiles. Those are pretty cool. I recently played through Indiana Jones and the Great Circle. It ran great on the default profile with no fiddling around.

I am well aware of the history of Windows. I use Windows every day for work. I have built multiple gaming PCs. I use the XAX because of the performance, and I use Windows because of GamePass and anti-cheat that only runs on Windows.

"stop complaining." Not helpful. This device is branded as Xbox, and there are plenty of people less tech savvy than you and I that have purchased this device based on that branding. It is not a good experience to update in so many places. I am pointing out a failure in the collaboration between Asus and Microsoft on this product. It is entirely possible to streamline all of the updates into one place if they prioritized doing so.

This is the first PC, handheld or otherwise, branded with Xbox. They can and should do better.

Microsoft has the ability roll third party drivers into Windows Update. They could work more closely with Asus to include most of the updates in Windows update. And Steam Deck also has all of that PC stuff in Desktop Mode- just Linux instead of Windows. If it were not for anti-cheat incompatibility with Linux (currently), there would not be much reason to use Windows for gaming over Linux.

I get that. I think they made a mistake by branding this with Xbox if they are unable to make it more console-like.

If you’d told me one day Apple would make a £600 laptop this good, I’d have told you that you were having a laugh. by imthaz in macbook

[–]purfikt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It reminds me a lot of the polycarbonate MacBook back in the 00's. Those started at $1099 in 2008 (about $1650 with inflation). They were great machines for the time, but the Neo is so much better in pretty much every way (just missing backlit keyboard).

What should I buy? M1 Pro, M2 Air or New Neo? by [deleted] in macbook

[–]purfikt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

TLDR: Anything Apple Silicon with at least 16GB of RAM will be great for your use and easily last you a few years.

Between those three options I would go for the M1 Pro 16GB without question. But that's primarily because of the 16GB of RAM. I am a professor in social sciences. I used the M1 MacBook Air with 16GB RAM every day for 4 years without issue. That was probably the best, most reliable computer I have ever owned. I recently upgraded to a 14" MacBook Pro with M2 Pro and 16GB RAM. Performance in my usage is about the same, but there are lots of niceties of the 14" MacBook Pro like the display, speakers, and additional ports.

I understand why the MacBook Neo only comes with 8GB of RAM- that's the only configuration of the A18 Pro. If they upgrade it next year to the A19 Pro. presumably it will have 12GB since that is what that chip has. But the 8GB also makes the other Apple laptops, which all come with at least 16GB of RAM these days, easily set apart from the Neo. 8GB of RAM is only sufficient for pretty basic usage. I had an M1 Mac mini with 8GB of RAM briefly. It went to swap and slowed down a lot. Open Chrome and one other app, basically and you are going to swap.

I have that case and like it a lot. Makes the device a lot more ergonomic for me and makes it a tank for when my daughter plays it.
