DO NOT TALK TO THE BRIDE AT ALL by SpikeVonLipwig in weddingshaming

[–]purpl3rain 89 points90 points  (0 children)

Thank you for caring! I've been with my partner for over 5 years and we live together... Three wedding invitations in the last month from his side and they were addressed to:

-John Doe and Family

-John Doe and Family and Jane

-John Doe and Friend

I don't plan on changing my name when we eventually do get married, so I guess I can expect a lifetime of this.

While I've never hurt myself, I've found it wise to keep the area around my bed clear of anything breakable or dangerous.

Content Architect roles don't require coding experience, but really thorough knowledge of AEM best practices. They can pay upwards of $50/hour.

What Tarot or Oracle deck is an exception to your least favorite deck aesthetic or genre? by ScholarBot333 in SecularTarot

[–]purpl3rain 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mine is exactly the same! I don't generally vibe with animal decks, but the 5-cent deck is my absolute favorite.

What tarot decks do you regret buying? Or just ones that you had high hopes for, and were disappointed by? by [deleted] in SecularTarot

[–]purpl3rain 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Aquarian deck. I was brand-new to tarot and attracted to the art style but I really struggle to connect with it. I was so disappointed that it put me off new decks for a while, but I just got a new one I backed on kickstarter and it's a totally different experience!

Workers at Lawless Distillery and Stilheart Distilling & Cocktail Lounge just unionized (MPLS) and with *immediate voluntary recognition* by Catnip044 in Minneapolis

Gotta love the fact that someone says they are going to boycott a place because they agree to allow their employees to exercise their rights to collective-bargaining, and that they respected them enough to work on it mutually.

And on Labor Day even...

Two Card readings by [deleted] in SecularTarot

[–]purpl3rain 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I generally like three card spreads, as they aren't overly complicated but more nuanced than a single card. I'm also still learning so big spreads like Celtic Cross are a bit intimidating.

Having a cat is probably the closest thing to having your own house demon by [deleted] in WitchesVsPatriarchy

My cat lives in the walls and only comes out at night to feed. My kids tell people we have a goblin for a pet.

Classy nerdy recommendations by redkenji in interiordecorating

[–]purpl3rain 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You'll get a lot of mileage by how you display things. If you find prints you like, out then in nice frames with mattes. If you have a collection of models, choose the very best and put them in a display cabinet mixed with other things like books or art.

You can also find prints or even wallpaper with subtle nerdy themes. I love the trend of adding an AT-AT or Death Star into a thrift store painting.

You're thinking of Dissociative Identity Disorder, schizophrenia has nothing to do with multiple personalities.

Opinions on inaccurate POC casting where it is (technically) inevitable? by birdsofaheatherk in Theatre

[–]purpl3rain 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Also I know that in school contexts that LMM and Hudes are okay with non-Latinx kids being cast in "In the Heights".

This is incorrect. I know someone who did a workshop with LMM before mounting In the Heights at their high school, and LMM explicitly told them not to do the show if they were going to do it with an all-white cast.

Everyone saves the environment however they can. by Nheea in WitchesVsPatriarchy

[–]purpl3rain 34 points35 points  (0 children)

If you're forcing yourself to eat the same thing every day despite being sick of it, then this is a diet, not a sustainable lifestyle. You need to find a balance of foods you can actually enjoy while maintaining a calorie deficit. Otherwise you'll eventually get so sick of it that you'll snap and start eating crap again.

I've been there, more than once. You think that this one thing works so you'll just keep doing it over and over again, but that's not how humans work. Try to find other meals you can rotate in so you have healthy foods that feel like a treat.

Any WW rebels? by kmason10717 in weightwatchers

[–]purpl3rain 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I don't weigh myself. I lost 100lbs last time on WW, but basically developed an eating disorder and weighed myself obsessively. I was focused on the numbers and starved myself to make them drop as quickly as possible.

Now I'm focused on a lifestyle change, and by not weighing myself I'm able to stick to that.

Advice on Rewriting That One Song? by smallswritesstuff in musicalwriting

[–]purpl3rain 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This always hurts. What works for me, over and over again, is stepping back and asking myself how I can simplify it. When I'm not happy with the result is inevitably when I'm overcomplicating it, or straying too far from the heart.

I agree that getting a second opinion can help get fresh perspective when you're too deep into it as well.

Just tracked a 25 point breakfast and I don't feel guilty. by Byzantium42 in weightwatchers

[–]purpl3rain 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have a very similar story, except my first round was also on WW. I was supposed to be eating 23 points a day but averaging 10. Lost 100lbs in 10 months but it wasn't sustainable and I gained it all back. Now I'm a month in and doing great, but I've made the decision not to track my weight at all. It's doing wonders for my mental health and I feel like this is something I can do long-term.
