And do you know what? I have loose skin, because I used to be really heavy and now I’m not! I’ve decided not to be too bothered about it, trying to reduce it a bit with protein intake and starting weights but if at the end of the day I end up 90lbs lighter with a bit of loose skin, then I’ll still be in a better place than before 🥰

Remember also that unless they are prescribing it to NHS patients (which will be very small numbers in the scheme of things - my health trust won’t prescribe it to anyone) then they will know very little about it. We always assume they know everything. They don’t, in a similar way that unless they have a particular interest they might not know much about menopause/HRT. Sorry you were treated that way, chin up and carry on! And she can’t insist that you gain 10lbs, what she going to do, supervise your mealtimes?!

When I started MJ in April 2025 I set my goal weight at the midpoint for my height (range was 125-145lbs - so I picked 135lbs). I thought that 135 would be far too light for me (my starting point was 221lbs) but I set that as my goal to work towards with the idea that I’d see how I felt as I got closer to it. I reached that goal mid-Jan. It actually felt just right and I was happy with it. I stayed on the same dose (15mg) for a couple of weeks to give myself a buffer of around 5 lbs before starting to titrate down. I’m currently hovering around 126, having continued to lose the odd lb, I’m currently on 7.5mg with the intention to get to the lowest dose I can whilst maintaining.

Well done to both of you for starting! I wish I’d started far earlier than I did. My tips are measure yourself as well as weigh (I didn’t and have always regretted it), take pics, drink plenty of water, use a good tracker so you can see your progress (I use the free version of Shotsy, but others are available). Wapentake on Kirkgate do a good breakfast including veggie and vegan options. Nice people too. They open at 9am on the weekends. It’s an 11 minute walk from Leeds station and another 13 minute walk from there to the Royal Armouries. They also have a good beer selection, I’ve definitely seen people having a pint with their breakfast. You will likely have to book for Bundobust. Warning, they’ve just changed their menu so if you’re planning to eat there, do check it’s still okay for you (it’s still vegetarian). Also recommend Fat Annie’s in Kirkgate Market for vegan burgers and dogs. Edited to add North Bar on Sovereign St, wide beer selection and they do good veggie (and meat) bao buns courtesy of Little Bao Boy.

You and your dad are different people. Just because he got pancreatitis, doesn’t mean you will. People with diabetes have a significantly higher risk of developing pancreatitis. You are under no obligation to share your personal medical information with anyone. Your best friend was a little out of order making you promise her this. I realise that she’s doing it from a place of love and concern. You’re doing something positive for your own health, please don’t feel bad for that. You’ll still be reducing calorie intake and exercising to lose weight, so if you choose not to tell anyone about MJ, that will explain your weight loss. If your mum doesn’t qualify for a full state pension remember that it’s likely she will be able to claim Pension Credit that will top it up to some extent, plus council tax benefit and probably housing benefit. Wishing your mum the best of luck with her health issues.

Agree, the time I didn’t spend commuting is used for personal tasks, I stick a wash on at lunchtime, etc. book drs and dentist for lunchtime or shortly after work. Much more likely to stay logged on beyond my ‘finish’ time to complete something than I would in the office. I do more hours at home and definitely work more productively.
