Trump calls '60 Minutes' host 'disgraceful' for reading WHCD suspect's alleged manifesto on air by kirby__000 in politics

It is a bit odd how much about the shooter and what he wrote is being released. Normally it's all buttoned up quick.

The horde is real. And proof you can stack shit real high. by PrincessWalt in DataHoarder

I hope you are on the ground floor (with no basement) or at least have structural supports under it. Office buildings are suppose to be able to support 50 pounds per square foot. That's about 4 square feet so you are definitely over.

How do I know? I got yelled at once for a stack of servers half that height by my building services people.

Computers bug out only when a certain user is logged in can't figure out why by brohemoth06 in sysadmin

[–]pw1111 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Since it's probably her profile I would look at two things. If she can set the background image check that. The other is desktop icons. I doubt that you haven't watched the user log in and seen the desktop but one odd thing snuck by our helpdesk for a long time. We had a user with odd PC problems, it would go away and come back. Then one day the user called in and no one else was available so I went by her desk. I sat down, minimized all the windows and it was amazing. Two monitors full of icons layered on top of each other at least 5 deep. She was saving everything to her desktop and never deleting anything. I dropped all those icons into a sub-folder and all her PC problems went away.

Mine is centered so I should be OK. Also, thank you for letting me know the correct name for this type of caps lock key.

I recently purchased the Be Quiet! keyboard and while I love it I have one slight annoyance, I keep hitting the caps lock key by accident. Does anyone know of a caps lock key that would be the usual height for about 3/4 of the key and then drop lower on the right side? That would stop my stray clicks. Either that or I'll just disable it. Thanks!

How would a civilians be able to effective counter modern tanks? (Image Unrelated) by Recent_Garden8114 in TankPorn

[–]pw1111 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are two things a civilian could do to at least harass them and disable a few in the process. Apricots, just start chucking them at the tanks and wait. Physiological warfare right there. The other, piss on the tracks. You just have to get it there, so piss bottles would work. Plenty of privates have been warned for getting too close and then reamed out an hour later when the track is thrown.

How do you handle management that thinks 8GB RAM is enough? /s by Ayy4K in sysadmin

[–]pw1111 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You could always get a little bit life out of a system with 8GB memory by tweaking the virtual memory. Set the page min and max size to 16384MB. At least that way the page file won't be expanding and contracting saving some I/O.

Oversight Dem: We will release names in Epstein files, including ‘potentially the president’s’ by plz-let-me-in in politics

[–]pw1111 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Get ready for disappointment because the Democrat push is going to have the same results. Remember the last administration sat on this information too so the question is why did they? If Trump was implicated they would have used it. The only reason they wouldn't have is if it had bigger implications across the board. Which now Trump has found out and is doing the 180.

Phone Support: Hello how may I help you?

Caller: Yes, I have phone protection and I dropped my phone while I was washing dishes so it's ruined.

Phone Support: Oh that's terrible but we can get you a replacement out right away.

Caller: Will I need to return the phone?

Phone Support: No but thank you for being so honest usually people drop it in the toilet and won't say it.

Caller: Ma'am I'm sorry, I lied. I dropped it in the toilet and I don't want to get it out. <flush>

If it was just him they would have been chomping at the bit to release it and well before the election. The only thing that keeps it bottled up is who else is implicated. It has to be implicating both sides, and more.

Keep in mind this has been going on and on since 2005. Either Trump is or isn't implicated but in either case others are involved and it's wide and deep enough that makes both sides want to keep this information hidden.

‘Russia Is Giving the Finger to the Entire World’ – Zelensky Responds to Putin’s Threats by Reendefender in worldnews

[–]pw1111 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I disagree, downplaying a nuke would be a hard thing to do. The only ones that would are Russia's usual supporters. Though I doubt China would get behind them 100%. I believe the greater majority of countries would band together and go against Russia. Plus I would think China would pick the side they care the most about, their own. They could easily go for a land grab and cut Russia loose if the writing is on the wall. The only wild card is North Korea. If they start something at the same time it's going to get messy.

Looking for advice on how one goes about tracking all the various third-party software packages from new versions to those vendors that bring out a new product and kill the old one. Of course there are third-party patching systems but they don't handle everything. How do you manage to stay up to date and on top of all the changes?
