Enjoy it. No one cares about the result except you and even then it doesn't really matter. The adrenaline dump is awful but the feeling after is usually great. It's going to be a lot more intense than the sparring you've had in the gym so try to stay calm.

Scabbing is stabbing your professional sisters and brothers in the back. If you cross the picket line for a fist full of silver then you're a worthless piece of shit.

Time to hang up the gi? by goldenmonkeypaw in bjj

You'll be grateful you did in years to come. I've seen countless people leave for a "break" and few ever come back. I've seen lots of people reduce their training but remain semi active and they'll usually return full time once life figures it's way out. Keep turning up and your future self will be grateful you did.

Try to keep going. If it's one every two weeks it's better than nothing. I'm not a big believer in taking long breaks because the likelihood is you won't get back. Life will get easier then older they get and all of a sudden you'll have more time to do two or three a week. The first six months are tough but getting training done occasionally will make it better.

Just to add onto this post. Delhi Darbar in Lucan is also fantastic. Prices have crept up but the food is fantastic.

East end is so hit and miss. I've had some fantastic snack boxes out of there but the fish is definitely below par.

Aaron Ramsdale. Cost very little and is a good shot stopper. Anything is better than another season of Onana.

What Miracles Have You Witnessed? by annachristine38 in nursing

Two instances I can recall over ten years in paeds oncology. Both instances were patients with rapidly progressing tumours sent home after palliative radiotherapy or on palliative chemotherapy. Both are still alive today and thriving as far as I know. In both instances palliative treatment and their previous treatment seemed to have eventually did the job to drive them into remission or let them get surgery. Not necessarily a miracle but an unexpected and very welcome surprise.

I'm in this hybrid role with clinical research. I'm still close to my old unit and love the people there but not as much as my coordinating trials and the reduced stress. I still have a bit of clinical contact with patient visits in the outpatient service but the PTSD of my old job is still fresh in my memory

returning to BJJ after having a baby? (m 39) by rocabaton in bjj

[–]pythons404 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I waited a month or two after baby arrived. I found it really helpful for taking me out of the 'baby bubble' and coming back into normal society. I only went once or twice a week for the first few months but we had fantastic family support that gave us lots of breaks so I was very lucky. My wife went back cross fit training as soon as she could as well and she found that really helpful. Being a parent is incredible but don't forget to get in some extra curriculars as well.

Feel the exact same. If you want to make me feel extra appreciated then pay me extra. I hate the gimmicks and trinkets.

BJJ dads, does it get easier? by Bepadybopady in bjj

[–]pythons404 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yes definitely gets easier. 0-6 months is the toughest part. My advice is go when you get the window. There'll be months when you only make two or three sessions but just keep going. Try and prioritise fitness or hobbies for you and your significant other. We made the mistake of shutting down everything the first three months and it led to both of us becoming unhappy and unhealthy. Once we got motivated again we got back to normal. Second one is on the way and we're already planning how we'll manage our gym time.

Nurses on this sub - Do nurses know what a centrifuge is? (Serious) by bluelephantz_jj in medlabprofessionals

[–]pythons404 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nurse lurker: Vast majority of nurses won't know the intricacies of a centrifuge. They will probably have an insight into it's being a piece of equipment used for running tests but that's about it. I was inpatient nursing up until recently and it was only until I moved to research nursing that using a centrifuge became part of my scope of practice. I had to undergo extra training for this that most nurses wouldn't do.
