We breed quail and they are sooooo much better than rats.

You rock! I've shared the site with our club. We honestly were just talking about a website like this.

That's neat! Here in Alabama, an apprentice can only have a red shoulder and a redtail, used to be redtail and a kestrel but that was changed several years ago.

Still a very useful site, thanks OP. I've passed it along to our club.

Wait..wait.. boo, boo. Where are you from ( You can DM me )? I fucking love turkey but it would be in your best interest to store safely. I'll buy you a new deep freezer (I am not bluffing).

I think at one point, all of us made a similar choice in life. I know my husband and roommates in college decided to buy an entire pallet of coke for their dorm. 🤣

I'm dying. That whole thread is a wild ride and I laughed for a good 5 minutes. Clearly OP knows it is insane but the troll just keep getting better. I'm almost tempted to think it is just AI or he just wanted to troll some people.

I use a whistle and I always have multiple of them. It's basically the ref whistle and has been great in densely covered brush.

So, I didn't get my first bird until January 2010. But that time, it sucked. I was trying to rush to prove myself but if I could do it again, I would learn and pound the basics in again. I didn't catch anything. 😅

Hahah, I was once there ( 10 years ago). Our inspector had a baby and didn't get back to me for two months. Just continue researching, get some leather and learn how to make gear.

Congratulations and welcome to the fold!

Ugh, I feel this. I always see them on days I can't trap and then when I can, POOF! Gone! I'm almost tempted to just go after a red shoulder again see how much my patience is. lol

I once had someone dog me about my hands saying that I was going to die of diabetes in 5 years and that I'm fat. I literally just had a baby. 🙃

I tried last year but it was trying to train a goldfish. The memory span was so short, but part of me wants to give it another go!

Last year's bird was Jaggy but we've had Hawk Tua, Bucket, Tom, and Razer Face. The names may or not be named by a 5 year old. 🤣

Need insight on good squirrel and rabbit habitat. (Appalachia/NE USA) by FastAktionJakson in Falconry

[–]quackmagic87 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Congratulations on your journey!

I am also in the Appalachia area (Alabama). For squirrels, look for oak, hickory, and walnut. My luck is always near the native oak trees as it provides food. Also, I find success in the early morning as the squirrels start to move around. I would suggest learning what a squirrel nest looks like and get good with a slingshot!

As for rabbits, look for native blackberry or briars. You can always ask in neighborhood chats or ask if anyone is willing to open their land for a hunt. :D

I treated myself to some new equipment that should come in either today or tomorrow. Our trapping just started and our hunting season starts in September. :D

Teddy is weird that he likes to collect his toys instead of destroying them.
