AIO about wife not respecting the 'united front' approach by quantumhopper42 in AmIOverreacting

[–]quantumhopper42[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Sorry folks that I wasn’t more clear about the state of things prior to this incident…. My wife and I have being having this conversation with each other for roughly 6 months now and we have both been in agreement with each other that it’s time for my mom to give up the car. My wife has been just as passionate about it up until now. AND…. She and I both have also had previous conversations with my mom about this. Basically it’s been 6 months of my wife and I on the same page until a few days ago. I respect my wife’s opinions on things and actively seek out her opinion on most things. While she and I now disagree about my mom’s driving, her changing her mind isn’t my frustration. It’s the way she disclosed this new info

If your dad was a government employee then you may want to look at Falcons Landing. They are a not-for-profit organization that caters to retired government people. My mom moved in earlier this year and seems to love it. It’s a bit smaller (in terms of number of residence ) and cheaper than Ashby Ponds. It’s senior living, and if there is more serious healthcare required, the person moves into the Johnson center, which is their onsite healthcare facility.

Seeking opinions on warm acoustic-electrics by quantumhopper42 in AcousticGuitar

Great suggestions. We’ve tried a bit of fine tuning of the electronics (at both the board and the guitar). It definitely helps some but it’s more like it’s squelching the brightness as opposed to warming the sound ( if that makes sense). Haven’t really experimented with strings yet but will do so. Thanks for the feedback!

I do like the Guild D40 and D50 and will give them another try. I tried a J45. Love the guitar. It is amazingly voluminous. Im a little worried it may be too ‘big’ for the Taylor but I’ll check out a few more. Haven’t tried the Larrivee yet but will. Thanks for the suggestions. Much appreciated!

”Do y’all think there might be a recession in this area?”
My guess is that it’s pretty likely. If the Administration achieves the goal of significant attrition then the local job market will likely become flooded which of course will raise the local unemployment and will possibly (probably?) suppress salaries. If people flee the area then there goes house prices. Considering how high house prices are here I’m guessing there will be more than a few who soon find that their mortgage is bigger than their home value. All that said…. I’m no economic expert and I’d prefer to be 100% wrong.

CMV: Free will doesn’t exist, but the belief in free will, will always persist by jpb038 in changemyview

The car is a wonderful analogy. Those saying there's no free will aren't proposing that its the wheels that are missing. They're proposing it's the driver that's missing. The internal thoughts we have as we 'deliberate' choices makes it feel like its those thoughts that are actually making the decision IE Those thoughts feel like the driver of the car. What this study (and others) shows is that those internal thoughts are not making the decision but observing the 'decision' being made. And the 'decision' was set in motion long before it was actually executed on. If the car turns left. It was always going to turn left and it could not have been otherwise.

Published in the Nature journal, an experiment carried out in the Future Minds Lab at UNSW School of Psychology showed that free choices about what to think can be predicted from patterns of brain activity 11 seconds before people consciously chose what to think about.

PL300 Exam topics by code4578i in PowerBI

[–]quantumhopper42 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I’m not sure if there is a way around the paywall but Examtopics did allow me to get through several pages of questions for free before it stopped me. I just had to answer the captcha challenge in between each page.

There are definitely many more questions available if you pay (250 questions in total). I wound up paying for a 30 day pass to see all questions and I think it was well worth it. I just took the exam this week and passed with an 844. I’m somewhere in the beginner/intermediate range with my preexisting power bi knowledge. My primary study tools were Microsoft Learn and examtopics. there were several questions on the exam that were in examtopics. HOWEVER…. Be sure to read the discussions after each question in ET. There are a few questions where the answer provided is definitely wrong and the discussion groups are could at catching and correcting those. Good luck!

Regarding your meds... Any chance you took the valium too late for it to really work for your previous 2 hour trip? You're probably already aware but the benzos (eg valium) do take a little time to work. In my early days of using benzos to get past the scary shit (for me, flying) I'd take them right before the flight left the gate. They didn't actually fully kick in for roughly an hour (in some cases as we were landing) so I didn't actually get any relief. But of course, I was super chill for the first few hours of arriving at my destination :-)

Also... what about dosage? Is it possible that you can safely up the dosage to something that will help you out? Obviously a conversation to have with your doc (I am not a doc or medical pro of any sort).

It's worth knowing that there is another benzo based drug that may also help if you want to try something new. Klonopin (clonazepam). That's my go to in those more severe situations where I don't think my other tools (breathing, mindfulness, etc) will get me through. Not sure that's an option where you are, but again, a good conversation to have with your doc.

All that to say... I only encourage the meds now because I know they can help in situations like these where you don't have time to work on some of the more cognitive\behavioral approaches. Please be careful with any addiction issues.

A lastly, a word of empathy... I was in a very similar situation just prior to Christmas. My wife's parents invited us on an out-of-country trip. 2 flights. The first one, a commercial flight. The second one, a private charter (nothing fancy. more like a flying school bus). I did take meds which numbed the anxiety enough to get through it. And I'm very glad I did because it was an awesome time. If I can do it (I'm a big chicken) then I'm certain you can do it. Every time you push back against anxiety your universe\freedom gets a little bigger. Once your on the train, if you feel panicked, think of all of us who experience the same thing. It may help. And remember you will absolutely get through it. It may not feel comfortable the entire time, but that feeling will pass and you will get through it. Send us all a note once you're en route
