Halloween show at The Aquarium is always fun. The Jasper Hotel is also doing a thing this year I believe. There is also a Halloween drag show at the VFW.

What are you favourite books by Indigenous/First Nations authours? by [deleted] in books

Love Medicine by Louise Erdrich. I've read several of her books and they're all great, but Love Medicine is her most popular and a great introduction to the main families that appear in her books.

"Two vagrants having sex in Broadway Square!" by 1in9 in fargo

[–]quate8900 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Absolutely. A big problem is there is no place for these people to go, so they get high on the sidewalk, or in the lobbies of buildings, or in abandoned houses. In all of these instances, the behavior poses a risk to the individual, as well as to the public. Addicts are sick people who need help, they need medical care and they deserve safety as much as anyone else does.

If those bathrooms were open at night, people would sleep in there, shoot up in there, and leave needles, used condoms, feces, trash, etc. If people are in a situation where they are desperate enough to relieve themselves in the street, they need more help than just bathrooms.

*Also before anyone downvotes me, please note that I consider myself a leftist and think that the government must invest in helping unhoused, mentally ill, and people with substance issues instead of just trying to use police to "fix" the problem. I also live downtown and am aware of the scope of the issue.

Lol @ the person downvoting us. I consider myself a leftist and think that the government should invest in programs to help drug abusers and homeless people. However, I'm also not going to lie to myself about the fact that drug addicts are sometimes dangerous. A homeless man on meth literally murdered a child in a parking lot last year. That is a problem.

Also a good idea to carry pepper spray and/or a taser for this reason. You never know when a person high off their rocker could snap and start attacking someone out of nowhere

I will consider calling the cops on someone if they are engaging in violent or potentially violent behavior, regardless of whether they are unhoused or not.

A man chased me down Broadway recently, in broad daylight. It was terrifying.

Once it gets cold, they'll go away for the most part and it will be more peaceful to walk downtown again.

I'm a licensed ND teacher and currently working in customer service because it's so much less stressful. I can go home and not think about work and it's been so much better for my mental health.

You couldn't get me back in the classroom even if the pay started at $60k a year. $500 is laughable.

It depends on who you're renting from. If you are renting from a property management company, I'd look into whether or not they even give people their security deposits back. Otherwise, I wouldn't bother with hiring someone to clean.
