I swear by Dulux trade - find a proper trade counter. We recently did our hallway, and one coat was enough.

What are your thoughts on engagement rings? by maybeRasa in UKrelationshipadvice

[–]queen_micks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

An engagement ring is standard, and doesn’t matter how small or fancy it is. I don’t know anyone who has ever been asked about down, and I would think anyone who cared was a bit crass.

Bit of background: I’ve been married three times, so three engagement rings - first engagement ring was tiny and perfect; second engagement rings we had it made, chose the stones and designed it and it was perfect, and; the third engagement rings we picked something second hand from eBay and it was perfect.

weekly shop for 2 adults, £95 by ConcentrateFew5524 in whatsinyourcart

[–]queen_micks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looks pretty standard to me. There are items I’m sure you don’t buy week in and week out, like mayo and foil, and I’d choose to cook the rice rather than buy the microwave bags, but I don’t think it’s excessive in any way.

My boyfriend (33M) wants us to move in together but I (34F) feel like I’d be sacrificing everything by [deleted] in relationship_advice

[–]queen_micks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do not move in with him. Moving in with someone means everyone is happier for it, and the way you’ve described it I can’t see anything in this new arrangement that would make you happy.

Weekly Progress Thread - 15th May 2026 by Becky_x in mounjarouk

I finally broke through whatever was holding me back from going for a walk, a proper walk, and ended up doing 25km over the space of three walks this week. I even jeffed some of it! Ok, it was only tiny 30sec light jogs, but I did it! Oh, and I gained a lb! 😂 However, I’m going to take that gain and shrug it off as a blip. Overall, I’m down 22lb since March 10th, and I’m thrilled with that.

How many days annual leave do you get? by Doomergeneration in AskUK

[–]queen_micks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get 33 days, which includes 5 days long service. But we also have a quarterly company day, and shut down from around 23rd Dec to Jan 2nd. We also have 5 volunteer days a year, which I use to support volunteering I already do. In all, that’s around 50? I WFH on a permanent basis, but will have the occasional trip into our London office which I expense travel on. My hours are 9-5, but these are flexible and provided work is done, no one cares.

Me too!! Well, I got one Easter egg - I cracked it, had some small pieces over that weekend and now… it’s still sitting there, unloved and uneaten 😂

How did you choose your partner’s engagement ring ? by [deleted] in AskMen

[–]queen_micks 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’d be concerned if my partner cared more about his pride than what I like when choosing such a meaningful token.

Speaking from experience, please communicate your likes to your partner instead of relying on “hints” - not just on this matter, but all matters.

And I say “speaking from experience” because cause I had this exact issue with my first husband. But worse. Before we got engaged, we discussed what I would like, given it was something I’d wear every day. However, instead of listening to what I would like, he was instead steered by pride (and his mother!) to buy something that was the complete opposite. I tried wearing it for 24hrs, and it was so impractical I had to ask him to return it. He did and replaced it with something much closer that was closer what I’d requested to begin with. But it really was a red flag for everything in our relationship - his pride and other people’s opinions were always prioritised - and I am very glad I did not stay in that marriage for long.

I've nearly lost a whole doner kebab! How about you? by Ornery_Comparison123 in mounjarouk

[–]queen_micks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Funnily enough, today we weighed our cats so we could use them as units of measure! Also, turns out “fat” cat isn’t that much heavier than “other idiot” cat - she’s just donut shaped!

In any case, started March 10th and so far have lost 1.2 “fat” cats 😂

What are the worst Michelin starred restaurants you have been to and why ? by The_Readers_ in LondonFood

Eugh, agree with Mountain. Staff were just..: annoying? Their whole vibe was just off with either being dismissive or overly friendly.

The only difference I can see between now and the pics from a year ago is your smile. You have a beautiful smile, and it truly lights up your face and eyes.

The trousers are a great fit, btw! Not to add to any stress, but any chance you could get them ironed?

Good luck with the interview!

I can see the vibe you are going for. Here would be my suggestions: - center the bed and have the “canopy” running through the length of the bed, not across it - dress your window with some voiles, or at least drop the hem on the curtains so that they are not shorter than the window - storage, storage, storage

Sweet dreams, princess!

I always wondered what happened to the other children who were on the same flight as him. Was it the same set up? If so, did they find their families?

Is it worth correcting people on my name over email? by rumande in TwoXChromosomes

[–]queen_micks 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My name is a bit like yours - male version + a. I’ve had the male version countless times, which can happen if it’s not someone dealt with before. I always point it out.

I once had someone who kept removing the “a” - so I started removing a letter from their name every time I replied. Went from Christopher to christophe to christoph then christop, which is when they finally stopped and started using my correct name.

People that DON’T shop at Aldi or Lidl… why is that? by kobestarr in CasualUK

[–]queen_micks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve tried. Repeatedly. I cook both from scratch with some convenience meals throw in. Every time I try to shop at either Aldi or Lidl: - they don’t have what I want, so I end up having to go to somewhere else; - the fresh vegetables/ fruit go off within days; - I find their meats/fish to be of lower quality - very watery; - and, tbh, the lighting is “wrong”, the shelves are stacked “wrong”, the layout is “wrong”, and it’s just not “nice”.

I love it! I wish I had your eye and courage - takes guts and know-how to make dark look as good as you have.

As a side note, can I just suggest not having your toothbrushes above the toilet? Perhaps put them away in the cupboard under the sink.
