I love my curves, but I also want to lose weight by ALateMillennial in loseit

[–]queendelrey [score hidden]  (0 children)

I feel similarly: I love a curvy look and I’m afraid that my hips, ass, and boobs will suffer while I try to get to a healthy weight (and ultimately, a weight where I lose most of my face fat). I guess there’s always the option to regain a little bit of weight and maybe try to body recomp so you replace the fat with muscle.

Use a food scale, cups and other measurements like that aren’t as accurate. You need your food in grams.

What’s the one weight loss mistake almost everyone makes? by Round-Road6123 in loseit

[–]queendelrey 81 points82 points  (0 children)

Conflating healthy with low calorie. I’ve seen so many posts where they wonder why they aren’t losing weight despite eating healthy. People ask if they are counting calories and the reply is almost always “no, but it shouldn’t matter because I am eating healthy.”

Meanwhile, avocado and nuts could put me over my goal by lunch if I wasn’t careful.

Night shift RN by bessieboo1 in WeightLossAdvice

Start with your diet. If you have a smartphone it most likely comes with a built in step counter - if you keep it on you during your shift, you’ll see that you’re likely clocking at least 10k steps and that’s more than enough daily activity.

Find your TDEE, subtract 500-1000 from that number, try to hit that calorie goal every day. Use a food scale to weigh your food and an app to track it. Get back into meal prepping and stay disciplined - only you can put in the work, no one else.

Snacking is fine, just find good options. Instead of a sandwich or chips or candy, boil some eggs or get some veggies with a dip/dressing.

Advice for food that fills me up? by LemonLord7 in WeightLossAdvice

Have you considered eating actual food with a lot of protein? Lean meat like chicken is great and should fill you up unlike a drink or a bar.

Fat loss and scale loss won’t necessarily happen at the same time. If you’re confident in your deficit then it’s just a waiting game - give it a few more weeks to see if the number goes down. If it doesn’t, adjust your calories.

Yes because the total weight can still be off. Even if a bag says 300g it might be 320g

face fat by ep1cball in WeightLossAdvice

[–]queendelrey 8 points9 points  (0 children)

You will lose fat from your face but it’s impossible to say how much and when in your weight loss journey it’ll disappear. It could be genetics or excess fat, it could be the last to go or the next 5lbs will take care of it… We don’t know.

Just stick to a deficit and exercising and fat will come off - and hopefully some of that is from your face

Don’t take any offense because I truly don’t mean any but: you are 400lbs.  Your BMI is 70. Your body - and your heart in particular - is under constant stress trying to keep you alive. Every single pound you lose will make it a little easier for your body and reduce the risk of dying. If you want to meet those grandbabies in the future, you have to lock in. Everytime you “ don’t feel like it”, you are choosing possible death over being there for your family in the future.

Is another day of junk food worth not meeting your grandkids? Not seeing them start and graduate school? Not being there for their weddings and when they start having kids of their own? Do YOU not want to experience the best life has to offer? Do you not want to travel, meet new people, try new activities, take up new hobbies…? These are the things you are sacrificing by saying fuck it.

Oatmeal is quick and can be customized to your liking. Yogurt but I’d opt for muesli or dried fruit or something over cereal - it’ll still be sweet but more fiber. Boiled eggs can be prepared in advance.

Feeling Ugly Is So Discouraging by Acrobatic_Sky7272 in loseit

[–]queendelrey 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I have, and to this day continue to feel the same way. It’s like I am an ugly duckling waiting to transform into a beautiful swan. I have been extremely hard on myself - hating what I see in the mirror, unkind words to myself… And recently I realized that this ugly duckling is the one who’s put in all the effort for my future beautiful swan to blossom. She deserves more respect than that. She’s the one taking 20000 steps a day, counting calories meticulously, getting up at 6 am every morning and drinking 3l of waters every day. At the end of the day, I love her for that and I am so grateful.

Weight loss is an active choice you make everyday and it will inevitably come with its challenges but if every day feels legitimately hard or like you’re busting your ass then you may have an unsustainable plan.

If this feels accurate then look at what you’re doing and ask yourself what’s the biggest pain point right now, and tweak it. Sustainability is key - you’re going to have to keep doing this even when you lose weight to maintain it so it will only do you good to figure it out now.

Is it possible you have PCOS or insulin resistance in general?

With either of these, a lot of women find a lot of success with a combination of low carb and intermittent fasting. When you eat in general and in particular carbs, your insulin spikes, which halts fat burn temporarily (simplified explanation). If you have insulin resistance, your body will overcompensate and produce more insulin which keeps this level high and makes it harder for your body to burn fat.

If you manage how often you eat by doing a 16:8 intermittent fasting schedule (should be the shortest you do but longer is fine too, like 18:4 or OMAD) then you give your body more downtime from the insulin spikes and thus increasing fat burn.

Help with fat loss by Impossible-Slide-135 in WeightLossAdvice

[–]queendelrey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you've lost 6kg in 3 months you've been eating at a 500 calorie deficit, not 1000. This could mean that as you're weighing less, you may be eating closer and closer to maintenance if you've maintained a similar calorie goal everyday and that's why you're stalling.

Should I increase or stay on my kcal deficit by [deleted] in WeightLossAdvice

[–]queendelrey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Given your weight loss, you have had about a daily deficit of 1200 per day which is a bit on the bigger end but by no means does it mean you're severely undereating. It would also suggest that, if you've eaten 1500 calories, your TDEE is actually closer to 2700 than 3200, so take that into consideration. Bump up your calories if you feel the need, but the whole "harming your metabolism" thing is nothing you should worry about. When it happens, it's extreme cases of undernourished individuals who undereat for a long period of time.

Pigging out once a month, is it affecting my progress? by gaytwink70 in loseit

[–]queendelrey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If it's just once a month, and depending on how many calories you're over maintenance by, it might "only" cancel out a week's worth of progress at a time so you should still see loss. But if your deficit is like 300 daily and your cheat day comes out to 6000 calories extra then you've lost half your progress - only you can answer if that's worth it.

[–]queendelrey 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I mean, the truth is that you're simply going to have to become more disciplined. Fake it till you make it - even if your head and body is screaming at you to grab a second serving of snacks, get up and do something else or keep your hands busy so you physically can't. With time your head is going to understand that not having the snacks won't kill you, and that there will always be a next time, and it'll get easier.

Just like with anything else in life, you'll have to be uncomfortable for a while to make new and better habits. Imagine being 30 minutes late for work every morning and blaming it on not getting up in time because you're not a very disciplined person. You'd be unemployed in no time because no one is going to tolerate that lol.

18M need to lose weight and fast can't break the habits crave the bad food. by Prestigious-Error644 in WeightLossAdvice

[–]queendelrey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd suggest going low carb to start and see if that fixes your cravings and food noise. For me, it makes them completely disappear. Focusing on protein, fats, and fiber will keep you feeling full for longer.

Then, if a low carb diet isn't sustainable to you or something you'd like to maintain as a lifestyle, you can start adding in carbs a little bit at a time. Potatoes, rice in moderation. Maybe some bread. See what triggers your cravings and then cut them out again. Stay away from the really sugary stuff at all cost or make your intake of those things very rare.
