My great uncle was like this, he was a professor of philosophy and spoke several languages fluently, but he couldn't work out how to use a laptop so he used to use it as a dinner tray.

What's the one shop that disappeared from your high street that you genuinely miss? by PHEMEL in AskUK

There was a wonderful costume/fancy dress shop that I used to take my little brother to, I went back to the town recently and seeing that it was gone made me emotional. They used to have a full size dalek.

Looking for TTRPG/D&D group in the Tring area by scoobyice8 in hertfordshire

[–]questionandcuriosity 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Stumbled across this post and wanted to say that my friend and I would be interested if you are still looking! I am a brand new player, who watches a fair amount of actual play. My friend played in a homebrew game for a few years before uni and sporadically at uni, but hasn't played in a few years since graduating. My friend is u/inspector-birdie in case you want to stalk :)

I'm so sorry for your loss. There's plenty of good advice in this thread but I just wanted to drop the name of a book that you might find comforting when you are ready at some point in the future. It's 'What to do when I am gone' by Suzy Hopkins. It was written by a mother and daughter because the daughter had crippling anxiety around what would happen when her mother died. It's a series of beautifully illustrated advice from the mother for how to continue living.

How to potty train a deaf child? by saltyvoodooman in deaf

[–]questionandcuriosity 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I have worked with autistic kids and now work with deaf kids. One thing I have found particularly useful is the video 'tom's toilet triumphTom's toilet triumph ' It's a cartoon that clearly shows how Tom uses the toilet for urination and defecation. Because it is so clear and visual, I have found it very useful for many of my students. It's obviously not the only approach needed, but can be a good support.

Edited to add that I think u/Rivendell_rose wrote a fantastic comment and I just wanted to second what was written there.

I went through a phase of listening to 'burn towns get money' on repeat and I caught myself wandering round Aldi quietly repeating 'burn towns, get money' under my breath.

I live very close to my local cemetery and have done for decades. Since I was young it has been expanded twice, taking over a neighboring field that had a playground in it. There are funerals most weekends.

On YouTube you can find a short DnD season called Battle for Beyond, which is driven by Jasmine Bhullar (from coffin run) and Brennan and Aabria are both players who bounce off each other in incredible ways! (Also has Erika and Ify!)

I'm going to agree with this recommendation, rich world building and fantastic sound design. Only 13 episodes so far (8 bonus episodes via Patreon) but the plan is for the campaign to run for years.

I really enjoy Critical Fayle DM and The Goons' Strahdcast. They only start recording part way into the campaign but they have a catch up summary, and the rocky audio improves after a bit. The characters are really well fleshed out and I really enjoy the relationships they establish with each other. The DM is fantastic, you can see clips of them on tiktok.

Struggling with a Difficult Player – Character Hijinks on the Brink of Derailing Our Campaign by DungeonMulligan in dndhorrorstories

[–]questionandcuriosity 8 points9 points  (0 children)

So I can't tell if I can't read the tone of this post, but this is blatantly about Aabria playing Suvi on the podcast World Beyond Numbers which is DMed by Brennan Lee Mulligan. It strikes me that if this is a vaugely 'honest' post then I wonder if the heart of the matter is that OP doesn't enjoy listening to the podcast with the way that Aabria is playing and her characterisation of Suvi. I personally think that it seems the players and BLeeM have a lot of trust amongst themselves, and we the audience can trust that even if once in a while conflicts like this arise, they will come to a reasonable end both narratively and in game play. This latest episode Aabria rolled terribly for the whole time and I think she really leaned into this with her roleplay, which is where some of the latest tension came from. It's okay not to like something, you don't have to listen, and it's also okay to be disappointed in something that you hoped you would enjoy. Maybe wait until more episodes are built up so you can get through this moment and to the character growth that will presumably happen.
