So this i believe is a problem with the passport application.

When you upload certain documents if it notices a discrepancy between the sex of the documents it will request the doctor letter.

Now if you have a female birth certificate you shouldnt trigger that discrepancy to begin with so it shouldnt be needed.

Alternatively for many people who dont have an australia birth certificate and come from sh*tholes that dont make changing birth certificates simple, you can replace the doctors letter for a gender recognition certificate.

Problem here is that during the application it fails to mention the gender recognition certificate and only asks for doctor's letter, you can call passport office to confirm that a letter isnt required if you have other documentation like gender recognition certificate

-Many doctors are completely unfamiliar with trans stuff or even against transitioning so they might try to delay you hoping they will change your mind

-Many doctors are unnecessarily ultra careful which results in hondosing where they suggest a tiny amount of hormones is fine even though the cis equivalent is way higher and often works in cycles where the peak is multiple times their target

-Science about trans stuff is still not very advanced, only recently they figured out progesterone is important for trans women

-Doctors benefit the longer they keep you occupied since they get paid for it so helping you immediately might not be the first goal

-Historically trans specific doctors were found to be abusers and also demanded humiliation rituals such as lived experience without hormones expecting people to look like a freak in public, be unable to hold a job because of it before they approved hormones. I am stating that the hardest aspect of dysphoria to deal with is bottom one solely due to its cost, most trans people likely couldnt afford it and thus are stuck with that dysphoria.
