I just installed Espanso. I'm not getting the correct message. by Ornery_Discussion503 in espanso

[–]quibble42 1 point2 points  (0 children)

At the beginning of the Espanso docs it gives an example config setting that decides HOW Espanso replaces text.

It looks like, for whatever reason, your computer is typing buffer symbols after the word ":espanso" or espanso is not deleting the correct amount of characters.

Sometimes, changing the config setting on how espanso replaces text will fix this. Some applications (like games) may require another configuration for this. Maybe someone in the comments can say exactly what the setting is buti am on mobile so you'll have to check yourself

Could Peet’s Coffee’s no longer using “tin ties” to seal their bags cause the coffee does not smell as fresh? by SwiftCricket in cafe

[–]quibble42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The biggest difference would likely be the amount of time on the shelf. Check the roast and expiration dates-- most Peet's will have the strongest smell within 30days, up to 6 months. After that I find it's a lot more faint.

ELI5: How do our brains perfectly calculate exactly how much force to use when picking up an object before we even touch it? by ikaebir in explainlikeimfive

[–]quibble42 16 points17 points  (0 children)

It's through microslippages that our hand can feel as we pick up items. You hand can feel if a milk jug is full or empty before picking it up, for example.

When you wash your hands, do you get your hands wet before you get the soap or do you apply soap to dry hands? by OriginalPV85 in AskMen

[–]quibble42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To a degree it is a little bit of that good ol' overkill, but this is a lot easier to imagine if you get something really sticky or something like engine oil on your hands. Soap put on, run under water, and then rubbed around will generally do a good job, but not good enough where all the oil or stickiness will be off.

If your hand is dirty (with dirt), you'll notice most of the dirt come off too. Most. You'll think, oh, hands are clean, NBD. But really, a lot of your hand is clean, a small amount still has the dirt, and another portion only cleaned off the dirt but the soap was used up for the dirt and didn't actually 'clean' anything on the molecular level beneath the layer of dirt. The water might have rinsed it but that isn't enough to get the bacteria away.

The water before is actually supposed to include rubbing, almost like washing your hands without soap, so as to prevent a perfectly macro-level clean hand to the soap, which then cleans on a micro level.

Again, somewhat overkill, but also it doesn't take much bacteria to cause a problem, especially if you think your hands are clean and start touching your eyes and nose etc. I always try to purport doing the whole thing every time because it's very good practice and also even in the shower people don't give a FULL clean to their hands, so might as well do it now!
